How to land on Earth. From critical zones to the terrestrial

The Science and Politics of Landing on Earth addresses the climate crisis mainly through the few-kilometers thick layer of critical zones that surrounds planet Earth, within the scope of New Climate Regimes. It proposes the redefinition of concepts such as Gaia, and suggests new ones, namely Terrestrial. The book is the product of a collective endeavor from scientists, artists, philosophers, historians, and activists, arguing that areas, disciplines and all living beings are connected. While associated with the ongoing scientific project Critical Zone Observatories, it was developed and launched during the exhibition Critical Zones - Observatories for Earthly Politics, in May 2020 at ZKM Karlsruhe, and edited by its two main curators, Bruno Latour and Peter Weibel. This review will introduce an impressively complete work, whose reading is as stimulating as necessary, and which contributes remarkably to what will be the most important debate of our century

Consistindo a fotografia na captura de um determinado momento, observa- se como, nesse dispositivo, a prova fotográfica é, simultaneamente, o acontecimento e o seu registo, o objeto e a sua fotografia e o utilizador da máquina é o fotógrafo e o fotografado, ambivalências que conferem um particular interesse a esta técnica, o que se reflete na sua recorrente utilização por parte dos artistas. O photobooth é, pois, um importante instrumento de produção de autorretrato, de autorrepresentação e de introspeção subjetiva, permitindo explorar o conceito de identidade através de uma linguagem muito própria: o automatismo, a imagem refletida na tela e a sequencialidade. Por oposição, a tão popularizada selfie, capturada através dos dispositivos móveis digitais, banaliza a autorrepresentação e esvazia a sua singularidade. É a esse recente método que, hoje, recorrem as jovens gerações, cada vez mais absorvidas pelo universo digital, contexto no qual se constroem identidades múltiplas ou fabricadas. Assiste-se um desdobramento do eu que explora, de modo contínuo e disperso, o alter-ego, tendendo até a anular a representação individual. A dinâmica do virtual e da partilha em rede, nomeadamente nas redes sociais digitais, é pública, ao invés de ser privada, íntima, simbólica de reflexão e de introspeção, características, precisamente, das cabines. Este artigo propõe-se a questionar e a refletir sobre o lugar do autorretrato do photobooth perante as novas gerações, humanas e tecnológicas.The photobooth goes through generations, provoking a continuous interest in a diversified public, preserved and, at times, raised by a strong revivalism, at the same time, being devalued by the new generations. Photography is, itself, the capture of a certain moment, and, in the booth, the photographic proof is simultaneously the event and its register, the object and the photograph. The user of the machine is the photographer and the photographed, the one that triggers the camera and the one that's captured by it, which consists in an interesting ambivalence hugely explored by the artistic community.The photobooth became a strong instrument of self-portrait, self representation and subjective introspection as it allows to explore the concept of identity through an unique language: theautomatism, the image reflected in the screen and the sequentiality. In the other hand, the popularized selfie suggests a subjectivity that vulgarizes the self representation and collides with the search of identity. It's to that type of photography that the younger generations are dragged to, being completly absorbed by the digital universe, the era of the multiple identity of an almost infinite individual unfolding that explores the alter-ego in a continuous and dispersed way tending to anul the purpose of self-representation. The dynamic of the virtual and the online sharing, as in the social media networks, are no longer private, intimate or symbolic of reflection and introspection, characteristics of the booth. O hiperobjeto artístico e a autonomia da curadoria : novos media e modelos expositivos

media na autonomia da curadoria. Propõe-se a Tese de que tais obras de arte se tratam de
hiperobjetos que problematizam e reconfiguram o contexto expositivo e museológico, uma vez
que escapam e rejeitam as categorias da Estética, exigem novos modelos expositivos e
inauguram dinâmicas inéditas de participação. Inviabilizam o controlo absoluto por parte quer
do curador, quer da instituição e do próprio artista, impondo a reestruturação do sistema
hierárquico institucional. Sugerem, inclusivamente, um novo museu. Perante este
enquadramento, identifica-se e declara-se, doravante, uma nova etapa de crise na esfera da arte.
Com efeito, para além das reformas e dos obstáculos já anteriormente decorridos na arte, a
estrutura, o sistema e a hierarquia desta vêm-se destabilizados e fragilizados pelo hiperobjeto
artístico, nomeadamente na medida em que este altera as relações entre obra, artista, espectador,
curador e museu. Emerge um artista curador, criador de situações dinâmicas e relacionais, e um
espectador decisor e coprodutor. Ao mesmo tempo, reforça-se a diluição de dicotomias e
princípios modernos sugerindo um novo que não se define pelo progresso, mas pela pós produção e pela metamorfose. Conduz-se, ainda, ao debate da “imaterialidade” da obra de arte,
e, no seu seguimento, à recusa da classificação dos objetos dos novos media enquanto imateriais.
Neste âmbito, a investigação sustenta-se em teoria da Estética, sobretudo em Hegel, na
viragem tecnológica anunciada por Walter Benjamin, na Estética Relacional de Nicolas
Bourriaud e na redefinição dos objetos a partir do conceito “hiperobjeto” de Timothy Morton.
Estudam-se, igualmente, a obra de Marcel Duchamp, as transformações na arte desde os anos
1960, e, especialmente, a década de 1990, na qual se situa o eclodir da tecnologia digital no
contexto artístico e institucional, período durante o qual se testemunhou a transição para uma
criação artística menos “objetual”, mais híbrida, participativa e interativa. Assim se atravessa da
obra modernista à hiperobjetual.
É também a partir daqui que se permite identificar e avaliar de que formas se manifesta e atua
a hiperobjetualidade no campo artístico, principalmente ao nível da sua interferência na
curadoria e na exposição, nesta última, sublinhe-se, tanto enquanto espaço como obra de arte.
Constata-se que os hiperobjetos são instáveis e desenham-se caso a caso, razão pela qual
impedem o estabelecimento de um conjunto de modelos expositivos continuamente aplicáveis. Pelo contrário, requerem soluções individuais e propícias a sucessivas reformulações e
renegociações. Assim sendo, apontam-se, para análise e estudo de caso, exemplos de formatos,
eles mesmos flexíveis, móveis, adaptáveis, híbridos e híper, que representem e respondam aos
desafios impostos pelos novos media à curadoria.
O primeiro, e a partir do qual se aprofunda o debate da (i)materialidade, será a exposição Les
Immatériaux (1985, Centre Georges Pompidou), concebida por Jean-François Lyotard e Thierry
Chaput. O segundo caso, a obra Immaterial Display (2021), discutida mediante o contexto da
exposição itinerante Matter, Non-Matter, Anti-Matter (2021-2023) e do projeto Beyond Matter
– Cultural Heritage on the Verge of Virtual Reality (2020-2023), iniciados pelo Zentrum fur
Kunst und Medien Karlsruhe (ZKM). A peça em causa consiste num paradigma de novas
modalidades curatoriais, expositivas, receptivas e experienciais, bem como num exemplar de
hiperobjeto. Daí se avança com a proposta de um novo museu, o hipermuseu.
Immaterial Display, mas também Les Immatériaux e várias ações do projeto Beyond Matter,
realizam-se e projetam-se, com efeito, para lá da matéria, consolidando-se, assim, enquanto
eventos da expressão e da concretização do tecnológico no campo artístico.
É neste quadro que este estudo se inscreve e no qual pretende, de certo modo, constituir um
manifesto da condição digital, virtual e hiperobjetual da arte. Atenta-se a demonstrar que a arte,
enquanto campo no qual se inclui a curadoria, a par dos restantes domínios humanos, encontram
na tecnologia o seu mediador e o seu vínculo a tudo o que, no mundo, os excede.

No full text[e]-motion brings together contributions from diverse fields of the arts exploring the interplay of motion, emotion, and digitalisation in the arts. Expanding on discussions from the 1st Graduate Conference on Science and Technology of the Arts, the book examines how the digital era transforms our relationship with the body, materiality, and perception. It addresses the impact of digitalisation on artistic production and reception, including the evolving role of physicality and materiality, the redefinition of audience engagement in cultural institutions, and the socioeconomic inequalities arising from differential access to technology and cultural participation. The volume also considers the implications of digitalisation for social and artistic activism, questioning how activism can transition from physical to virtual spaces. The book opens with two essays: Monsters and Measures: Two Approaches to the Essay Film by Sasha Litvintseva and Beny Wagner, which examines how their work challenges the standardising tendencies of science and technology, and Doug Bailey’s Art Archaeological Interactions, which explores creative ways to deconstruct artefacts and archives to uncover sociocultural narratives. Contributions from Constança Babo, Rosinda Casais & Filipa Cruz, Milan Kroulík, Federica Manfredi & Chiara Pussetti, Ana Barroso, Frederico Henriques & Mário Bruno Pastor, Beatriz Albuquerque, Daniel Tavares, Carolina Ferreira Baptista, Filippo Deorsola, and Anna Rebecca Unterholzner enrich the discussion.Publishe

be attached to this document.The project began on the basis of the Strategic Health Plan for the
municipality of Leiria developed by Leiria City Council and ACES
Pinhal Litoral (ACES Pinhal Litoral, 2019), which showed the high
number of people going to the Emergency Room (ER) with minor
problems, leading to a flooding of the emergency systems and a high
rate of metabolic diseases and comorbidities in the municipality of
Leiria. It is hypothesised that this data is being caused by the
population's low levels of health literacy. Health literacy is the ability
of a person to obtain, read, understand and use health care
information to make appropriate health decisions, to use healthcare
services and understand treatment instructions given by health
professionals (Pedro et al, 2016). Thus, low levels of health literacy in
the population can have a negative impact on the quality of health,
the way people use and interact with healthcare and, consequently,
contribute to high costs for healthcare systems.
Thus, based on the assumption that there are low levels of health
literacy among the population of the municipality of Leiria, it was
decided to create a cohort study aimed at validating or refuting this
assumption. A cohort study is a type of study that follows, monitors
and analyses a subject over time ((Hammoudeh et al., 2016; Hulley et
al., 2007). This study would follow the population over time to assess
whether the actions taken (e.g. information campaigns on healthy
behaviours and metabolic diseases) have an impact on the overall
health of the population. The first phase of the cohort study includes
the presentation and publicising of the study itself to the population, followed by a door-to-door survey carried out by interviewers. This
is the phase to which this project will contribute.
This project is based on applying design methodologies and tools to
develop and implement the study. Informal interviews (Kumar, 2013;
Martin & Hanington, 2012) will be conducted with the cohort study
team, a group of cohort study experts and a sample of the population.
The aim of these interviews is to understand the challenges of the
study, strategies for resolving them and to understand the factors
that contribute to participation in the study. The methodology of
defining the user group (Kumar, 2013; Martin & Hanington, 2012;
Petermans & Cain, n.d.) will also be applied, conducted to understand
the different points of view of the participants, then allowing the
creation of personas (B. Ferreira, Conte, et al., 2015; B. M. Ferreira et
al., 2016; Ku & Lupton, 2020; Miaskiewicz & Kozar, 2011) consisting of
archetypes of the door-to-door survey interviewers, providing a
more accurate selection process. Workshops (IDEO, 2015) will also be
held, which will serve as a testing ground for the previously developed
processes.
Given that this is an ongoing study, the project's own development
will define its needs. Due to the high drop-out rates in similar studies,
it is hoped that the design intervention in this study can reverse this
trend, bridging the gap between what is expected by researchers and
the perception of the study population. The ultimate goal is to create
a process that can be replicated in other similar studies

For this purpose, the method of bibliographical revision was used, mainly the hypothetical deductive technique to make the results between the text searched and its literary and legal repercussions. It is emphasized that the intention was to provide a literary and legal critique of the interdisciplinarity presented by that Brazilian writer.Este artigo é uma análise da obra: Direito, Literatura e Cinema - Inventário de Possibilidades, lançado pela editora Quartier Latin, no ano de 2011, do autor Arnaldo Godoy, demonstrando-se sua aproximação com a Escola de Constança e a teoria da estética recepção. Techno-Economic and Environmental Analysis of Oil Crop and Forestry Residues based Biorefineries for Biojet Fuel production in Brazil
No full textThe well-known volatility of petroleum price and, subsequently, of its derived products has long time urged the attention for the discovery of alternatives to fossil oil. More recently, the dichotomy food-fuel, has redirected the research towards second generation feedstocks, in which biomass residues are included. In line with this, a consortium of Dutch and Brazilian companies and Universities – HIP – joined forces to evaluate the potential of biojet fuel production in the Brazilian supply chain for which this study contributes. This project aims to identify the most promising combinations of location/feedstock/technology/ by-products for a biojet fuel biorefinery in the Brazilian context. For this, different feedstock that are significantly available in Brazil are considered, namely wood residues (Eucalyptus, Pine), agro residues (Coffee and Rice) and oil crops (Macauba). Then, 208.5 kton of biojet per year is taken as base capacity which supplies in 10% the project demand for 2020 of both São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro airports. Furthermore, this value also corresponds to a “drop-in” fuel at 50/50 blend of biojet and conventional jet. To achieve the established goal, around 120 scenarios were generated focusing on the comparison of lignocellulosic and/or lignin valorisation processes, the latter coupled with sugar production to be used in fermentation. Therefore, three pre-treatment processes are considered (steam explosion, dilute acid and organosolv), followed by enzymatic hydrolysis; and two possible thermo-chemical processes are included for lignin upgrade to biojet fuel (fast pyrolysis and gasification Fischer-Tropsch). Regarding lignocellulosic material, its valorisation is also achieved by thermo-chemical processes; being fast pyrolysis, gasification Fischer-Tropsch and hydrothermal liquefaction the alternatives studied. Additionally, the conversion of the extracted oils into biojet is obtained via hydro-processing of esters and fatty acids which step is common to all oil crop scenarios. In general, literature data was used to support most technology related decisions. Then, the number of scenarios is refined according to feedstock availability, gross profit estimation and minimum sales price, for which a price of 605 US/ton, being a biorefinery in Rio Grande do Sul for the conversion of Pinus via hydrothermal liquefaction the best performing scenario. Furthermore, it is also confirmed that overall these scenarios have a lower climate change impact, 1-19 kg CO2/GJ biojet, and require less primary energy, 16-395 MJ/GJ biojet, for biojet production in comparison to its homologous from crude oil, 87.5 kg CO2/GJ jet and 1210 MJ/GJ jet, respectively.Applied SciencesBiotechnologyBioProcess Engineering Desig
