    Power Islamization: Unveiling the Islamic Politics of Kiai as Leaders of The Indonesian People

    This research aims to review the Islamic politics of the Kiai affiliated with the religious organization called Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) examining the Kiai's Islamic politics focusing on the social-historical arguments and strategies promoted by the religious elites to keep their role in the lives of Muslims. Within the political dynamics of modern Islamic lifestyle, Kiai still holds their position as honorable figures. The methodology of this study uses the social history school as a research method to see the social background in the Islamic political history of the kiai as well as contains a critical aspect to analyze the dynamics of the kiai's Islamic politics. This study is carried out by reconstructing socio-political events involving traditionalist kiai on the Indonesian political stage from the independence period until the 2019 election. The main finding in this study is that the Islamic politics promoted by the Kiai are based on the Islamic teachings about social concern such as maslahah mursalah and kulliatul khoms which created the Kiai's movement concept, namely mabadi’ khoiru ummah (a path that shapes the best people) and syuun ijtimaiyah (social concern). The Kiai’s involvement in politics is based on this foundation. The significance of this study takes social history as a method by introducing a new approach in revealing the political and socio-cultural significance of the kiai in his involvement in the power-politics arena in Indonesia. So that it can fully demonstrate the values built by the kiai towards Muslims in political education that leads to building awareness of the nation and state.Tulisan ini bertujuan untuk mengulas politik Islam kiai yang berafiliasi kepada organisasi keagamaan Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) dengan menjelaskan argumen sosial historis dan strategi yang ditempuh oleh elit agama ini untuk tetap berperan dalam kehidupan umat Islam. Menghadapi dinamika politik dalam arus modernisasi kehidupan umat Islam, kiai terus eksis dengan posisinya yang terhormat. Metodologi yang digunakan dalam studi ini menggunakan madzhab sejarah sosial sebagai metode penelitian untuk melihat latarbelakang sosial dalam sejarah politik Islam kiai sekaligus memuat aspek kritis untuk menganalisa dinamika politik Islam kiai. Kajian ini dilakukan dengan merekonstruksi peristiwa-peristiwa sosial-politik yang melibatkan para kiai tradisionalis di panggung politik Indonesia sejak masa kemerdekaan sampai pemilu 2019. Hasilnya adalah politik Islam yang diusung oleh kiai berlandaskan pada ajaran Islam tentang kepedulian sosial seperti maslahah mursalah (konsep mendahulukan kebaikan) dan kulliatul khoms (konsep lima hak dasar manusia) yang tercetus dalam rumusan konsep gerakan para kiai, yakni mabadi’ khoiru ummah (rintisan menuju umat terbaik) dan syuun ijtimaiyah (kepedulian sosial). Signifikansi studi ini mengambil sejarah sosial sebagai metode dengan memperkenalkan pendekatan baru dalam mengungkapkan signifikansi politik dan sosio-kultural kiai dalam keterlibatannya di gelanggang politik-kekuasaan di Indonesia.     The practice of the ritualprayer waterand amalan by asking the kiai which is the belief of the community is constructed as a sacred house that can calm their spirituality from the blazing confusion and problems of life. This study aims to find out how the role of the kiai as religious leaders and social leaders in maintaining the spirituality of the people through water rituals of prayer and practice. This study takes the setting of a kiai in Pesantren Nurul Jadid who has the highest number of students in Probolinggo, East Java. The construction of the community of prayer water and practices are assessed using qualitative methods. Researchers chose non-probability sampling techniques by determining the subject in a purposive and snow ball manner. Collecting data with participant observation and interviewing 1 kiai and 8 communities around pesantren who have special needs for prayer and practice water. The data analysis of this study uses the concept approach of Berger's knowledge sociology. The results of the analysis of community construction in the pesantren indicate their need for supernatural power to solve life's problems. The community identifies this power with the kiai. It is this identity that maintains and maintains the social structure of the relationship between the community and the kiai to the present, as well as being externalized by the kiai in conducting spiritual guidance.Keywords: Kiai, Prayer Water and Amalan, Social Constructio

    Capitalizing The Sacred: Marketing Blessed Water as Religious Theraphy in Krejengan Probolinggo

    This study considers a question of whether blessings are commodified in the ritual practices of religious therapy associated with the certain religious figures. Buying the Air Berkah (Holy Water) from Habib Hasan Al Muhdor, a religios leader of Majelis Shalawat Ahbabul Musthofa, is a continuous tradition practiced by local Muslims at Widoro  Krejengan Probolinggo. By observing this religious (or economic?) therapy, this study attempts to argue that they have been transmitting the material thing, money, into the blessing of the attendant spirit mediums. As they received blessing and magical item from the medium air berkah, they reached for wallets to make donation. This study goes to analyze the ways their stock of knowledge are constructed through ritualized practices of buying air berkah and the ways it reproduced the social structure of Krejengan community associated with their religious belief in the commodified item of blessing. It leads this study to conclusion that religion of the masses requires holy men to satisfy the needs of ordinary men and women, and hence the sacred and charisma are corrupted by the demand for miracles and spectacles through certain mechanism, including religious therapy

    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis jejak peran dakwah dakwah kiai sebagai agen creator dalam menghadapi perubahan sosial di masyarakat. Pembahasannya dengan melakukan kajian pada hasil penelitian cendekiawan yang ditulis sejak tahun 1974 hingga sekarang, dengan menyorot kiai tidak hanya memediasi dalam perubahan masyarakat, atau bahkan mengalami stagnasi dalam perubahan. Lebih dari itu, kiai muncul sebagai agen yang aktif dalam melakukan kreasi untuk keluar dari berbagai persoalan-persoalan yang dihadapi baik oleh dirinya, pesantren maupun masyarakat. Untuk tujuan tersebut, metode sejarah sosial dipilih dalam penelitian ini dengan menganalisis kajian pemikiran tentang kiai yang dilakukan oleh para cendekiawan terdahulu dengan mengedepankan latarbelakang sosial dalam sejarah dakwah kiai sebagai creator dalam perubahan sosial, sekaligus memuat aspek kritis untuk menganalisis peran dakwah kiai sebagai creator dinamika perubahan sosial. Kajian ini dilakukan dengan merekonstruksi peristiwa-peristiwa sosial yang melibatkan para kiai tradisionalis di panggung sejarah perubahan sosial sejak tahun 1974 sampai saat ini. Hasilnya Pertama, Terminologi cultural broker terbantahkan dengan fakta kiai sebagai creator. Kedua, kiai melakukan modernisasi tradisi. Ketiga, politik dan pemberdayaan masyarakat diperankan oleh kiai untuk mewujudkan rahmatan lil alamin dan kemaslahatan umat. Keempat, kiai  melakukan transformasi pemikiran untuk mewujudkan masyarakat yang moderat. Kelima, kiai sebagai patron memiliki andil yang kuat dalam rangka membimbing umat. Keenam,  kiai sebagai decision maker mewujudkan kesejahteraan dan kemaslahatan umat. Ketujuh, dinamika dakwah kiai dalam perubahan sosial kekuasaan mengungkap fleksibilitas peran dakwah kiai ketika berhadapan dengan kekuasaan lainnya.     Early Prevention Of Bullying At School: Nobully's Sociometric Approach

    This study aims to explore the effectiveness of Nobully's sociometric approach in preventing early bullying in the school environment. The aim of this research is to use a qualitative research design with a case study technique. Data was collected through participatory observation events, interviews with students and school staff, as well as analysis of documents connected to school policies. The study results show that the NoBully sociometric approach has a positive effect in creating a more inclusive school environment and reducing bullying incidents. The integration of these methods promotes the formation of healthier social relationships among students, increases awareness of the importance of empathy, and changes group dynamics to encourage positive responses to differences. These findings support that the application of the NoBully sociometric approach has the potential to be an effective strategy in early prevention of bullying in the school environment, providing a foundation for the development of more comprehensive programs in creating a safe and supportive learning environment for all students. By implementing the NoBully sociometric method, schools can create a more positive atmosphere, where students feel more comfortable, supported, and avoid the risk of bullying

    This study explores a comparative analysis of the digital da’wa strategies of two prominent YouTube figures—Habib Husein Ja’far and Felix Siauw—within the context of the transformation of religious communication in the digital era. Habib Husein Ja’far promotes a moderate and inclusive Pop-Islam approach through collaborations with public figures and the use of popular media formats, while Felix Siauw adopts an ideological da’wa model grounded in sharia and identity politics, without engaging with mainstream celebrities. The study aims to examine their media strategies, audience segmentation, and the impact of their respective narratives on public perception and contemporary da'wah trends. This research employs a qualitative, descriptive-comparative approach using content analysis and virtual ethnography techniques. Data were collected through purposive observation of YouTube video content, audience comments, and media documentation. The analysis is based on Harold Lasswell’s communication theory, mediatization, and personal branding frameworks. The results of the study show the success of a collaborative, adaptive, and contemporary visualization approach in maintaining moderate Islamic discourse in the era of social media algorithms (Habib Husein), as well as the limitations of the expansion of ideological political Islamic narratives that rely on the strength of internal networks without media innovation (Felix Siauw). These findings affirm the premise of mediatization and personal branding that in the digital era, the success of da'wah is determined by the ability to follow the logic and ecosystem of new media, as well as the creation of a persona that is relevant to the trends and needs of its main audience.     Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis peran local strongman (orang kuat lokal) terhadap branding image PT Almuna Indah Wisata Pamekasan. PT Almuna Indah Wisata Pamekasan adalah sebuah perusahaan yang memiliki unit usaha antara lain: Almuna Tour And Travel, PO. Almuna Trans, Perumahan Almuna Citra Indah, Almuna Toserba, Almuna Cafe And Resto, Global Tour And Travel. Penelitian ini menitikberatkan pada usaha menjawab pertanyaan bagaimana peran strongman terhadap branding image PT Al Muna Indah Wisata Pemekasan. Apakah konsep local strongman berpengaruh terhadap brand image perusahaan Almuna Indah Wisata. Dengan menggunakan metode kualitatif data-data yang dihasilkan dianalisis untuk menjawab pertanyaan penelitian yang diajukan. teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah wawancara dan observasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa local strongman berperan dalam mempengaruhi masyarakat untuk memilih produk dan jasa Almuna. Ditemukan bahwa strongman terdiri dari korelasi kelompok elit pengusaha dan tokoh agama membentuk jaringan kekuatan elit lokal yang bermanfaat bagi Almuna untuk mengembangkan jaringan bisnisnya. relasi dan peran local strongman sangat penting bagi kemajuan PT. Almuna Indah Wisata. Local strongman dapat memberikan dukungan dalam hal kepercayaan, izin keberangkatan, nilai positif bagi karyawan, dan branding image. Begitu juga, melalui integrasi teori-teori yang telah dibahas, bahwa perusahaan Almuna Indah Wisata tidak hanya mencerminkan model bisnis konvensional, tetapi juga terikat erat dengan dinamika sosial, politik, dan budaya di tingkat lokal.     Developing Brand Image (DeBI) dalam Membangun Citra Positif Lembaga Melalui Media Sosial

    MAS Mirqotul Ulum faces challenges in developing its institution's brand image, especially through social media. Despite having a good reputation at the local level and having adequate facilities to support the development of its brand image, the madrasah has not fully utilized digital platforms to reach a wider audience and is still unable to formulate and implement effective strategies through social media. Facilities such as computer labs and good internet access can actually be used for digital marketing and content creation activities. Based on these conditions, it is important to implement the Developing Brand Image (DeBI) Program to build a positive image of the institution through social media at MAS Mirqotul Ulum Banyuanyar Probolinggo. Through four stages consisting of needs and potential analysis, training and workshops, strategy implementation, and evaluation and monitoring, the DeBI program has provided a strong foundation for MAS Mirqotul Ulum to continue to develop in the digital era. An in-depth SWOT analysis, effective training, and a targeted implementation strategy all contribute to the program's success. With the results achieved, MAS Mirqotul Ulum now has strong capital to continue and develop its digital communication strategy in the future

    Alliance of Ummah in Rural Areas: A New Perspective on Islamic Populism in Indonesia

    Islamic populism in Indonesia is perceived as an alliance of the people on behalf of the ummah in urban areas, against the ruling elites who enjoy the promises of peace and prosperity more than capitalism, modernism and democracy. This paper though intends to disclose the Islamic populism in rural areas through the power of capital and symbols as part of the cultural heterogenity between alliances in rural areas and large cities that simply focuses on political power. This research embraces the socio-cultural approach by applying the theory of generative structuralism penned by Pierre Bourdieu in order to analyze the resistance of cultural heterogenity by invigorating the cultural reproduction and symbols dominance to thwart the ummah alliance in urban areas. The results of this research show that the Islamic populism in rural areas upholds the belief in salvation, peace and unity, by reinforcing the cultural heterogenity among the congregations on various bases. In spite of domestication process in Islamic populism by the ruling elite, the ummah alliance in rural areas cannot be triggered due to their firm belief in salvation, which differs from the Islamic populism in large cities where a symbol of injustice of the bourgeoisie and the ruling elites prevails. The Islamic populism in rural areas has caused the failure of Islamic populism in large cities since their main discourse solely considers the middle class, in contrast to the Islamic populism in rural areas that might may welcome both the middle class and the lower class
