Búsqueda de salud y oferta de sanación. Estudio teológico de caso: Parroquia «Natividad del Señor» (Rosario, Argentina)

    No full text
Attention is focussed in this contribution on the spontaneous attraction by large multitudes to the Catholic parish «Nativity of the Lord» in the city of Rosario, Argentina, were people come seeking health for themselves and/or for relatives. This phenomenon shows one of the main motivations tied to current religious beliefs and practices in Argentina, especially but not exclusively among middle- and lower-class groups. Why this parish has become particularly inviting has to do with the charismatic figure of its parish priest, Ignacio Peries, originally from Sri Lanka, in charge of the parish since the beginnings of the 1980s. The offer of healing that distinguishes this community holds this Srilankan priest as a central character, even though he is accompanied by several male and female assistants, as well as numerous volunteers receiving the thousands of visitors who arrive each weekend. Key element in the healing ritual offered by this parish acting as a sanctuary movement is the priest’s blessing of sick people and their relatives, after celebration of the Mass (which is almost always presided by him as well). This presentation offers an interdisciplinary framework for understanding this phenomenon; it looks theologically at it from the voices of its actors; and it proposes lines for further reflecting on popular spirituality in the religious field, particularly regarding diversity of beliefs and healthcare.

The aim of this presentation is to revise Ignacio Ellacuría’s theological legacy about «the poor» and to suggest some key biblical and theological elements to relaunch it from a feminist perspective. Framed within its historic soteriology, the author’s thought is recovered in terms of its fundamental distinction between the poor from a socio-economical viewpoint and the poor «with spirit», its relation to the message of the beatitudes, and its current ecclesiastical relevance. With a feminist relaunching of Ellacuría’s contributions in mind, we examine the biblical studies of some authors, like Elsa Tamez’s work about Hagar (cf. Gen. 16 and 21:8-21) and Ivoni Richter Reimer’s work about Elizabeth and Mary (cf. Luke 1:24-25 and 1:39-56). The relation among these texts resides in the fact that these women—due to their condition as such—suffer poverty, oppression and humiliation, and are freed, blessed and exalted by God’s action. In these texts, we can see the lives of women marked by a weave of oppression and a transformative spirituality. The Magnificat, the song of a woman who has been humiliated and exalted, undoubtedly sums up the poverty «with spirit» that anticipates the coming of the Kingdom of God. In the final thoughts, a rethinking of «the poor» from an intersectional theological perspective is put forward to show the interweaving among gender, class, race and sexual oppressions. The use of this approach enables us to broaden the theological understanding of the poor and presents a challenge to language in inclusive terms. In turn, all of this promotes the visibility of the grid of oppression that women suffer and facilitates the recognition of their action in processes of resistance, liberation and «spiritualization».Esta presentación se propone revisitar el legado teológico de Ignacio Ellacuría sobre «los pobres» y sugerir algunas claves bíblico-teológicas para su relanzamiento feminista.

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    Get PDF
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

Theology and Church in Argentina: interview to Lucio Gera

Abstract: The renewal of theology in Argentine started at least ten years before the Vatican II, although the latter certainly oriented and deepened the pastoral concerns present among priests of the Young Catholic Workers movement, and later in other poverty- related groups. The early post-council brought up questions about the reception and implementation of the Council in this country; it led to the creation of the Episcopal Commission for the Pastoral and saw the emergence of the Movement of Priests for the Third World. Vatican II challenged the bishops to think the adaptation of Medellín in our context, leading to the Document of San Miguel (1969). In these intense years, which were interrupted by the military coup of 1976 through 1983, “the Argentine school of theology” developed an original line of thought, a tradition that shaped the pastoral care and the academic theology. The new stage, starting with the return to democracy, completed the first phase of reception through the theological contribution of the Document Pastoral Lines for the New Evangelization (1990). Lucio Gera's interview on March 12, 1999 shows him as one of the main contributors to the reception of Vatican II and its pastoral aim in our country

Abstract: In Latin America, a theology of the signs of the times ought to be localized in the hermeneutical horizon of the reception of the Second Vatican Council. The Medellin Conference - being the only case of a Continental reception of the Council and of a collegiate exercise of theological pastoral discernment of the signs of the times - is an exemplary place for such reflection. In Medellin, the poverty of the Church and the preferential option for the poor, offer a key to this reception and to criteria for discerning the signs of the times. The reception given at Medellin, which can be considered faithful, creative, selective, and incomplete, calls for it to be taken up again

"Evangelization with spirit" (EG 261) : the unity of theology, spirituality and pastoral serving the proclamation of the gospel

Abstract: One of the great “masters in theology” in Argentina in recent times, the late Lucio Gera (+07.08.2012), whose second anniversary we honor in this issue of Teología, spoke of the essential post-conciliar requirement of integrating theology, spirituality and pastoral. Chapter V of Evangelii gaudium, “Missionaries with Spirit”, situates itself in this particular horizon of convictions, because it has a distinctive theological content, a strong spiritual focus and a clear guidance and pastoral language, but mostly because it expresses an intimate link between these three dimensions. This article revises and extends an oral presentation given in a series of lectures about Evangelii gaudium, organized by the Faculty of Theology of the UCA on the 5th of June of the present year. We assume the strength of the proposed “evangelistic spirit” (EG 261) and offer a consideration on four aspects related to it: 1. A theology of “evangelization in the spirit or the Holy Spirit”; 2. A contemplative spirituality: the love of the Word and the fondness of being a People; 3. A Marian pastoral style of evangelization; and 4. The dance of theology, spirituality and pastoral at the service of the joy of evangelizing

Abstract: This article presents the results of a theological investigation focused on the case study of the parish, Natividad del Señor (Nativity of the Lord), in the Archdiocese of Rosario, Argentina, and is part of the second cycle of research conducted by the Urban Theology research group based at the Pontifical Catholic University of Argentina in its School of Theology. The general framework is based on the interdisciplinary orientation of urban theology and a conscious effort at interaction between the fields of theology, spirituality, and pastoral theology within the Argentine school of theology and focusing on practices of spirituality. For the empirical gathering of data and theological interpretation of the case—particularly the interpretation of this parish’s practice of the Way of the Cross—the mediation of the qualitative method was utilized. This method privileges the known subject’s point of view without disregarding the perspective of the researcher and his or her own disciplinary specificity. The article is organized into two parts. The first presents the case study in its fundamental elements: the parish, Natividad del Señor; the figure of Ignacio Peries; and the religious phenomenon of the Way of the Cross. The second attempts a theological reading of the Way of the Cross from three perspectives: the presence of the crowd; the comparison of the Good Shepherd and the sheep (cf. John 10:7-18); and an interpretation of the Way of the Cross based on the blessing with the cross. As a concluding reflection, a synthesis of the parish’s Way of the Cross is proposed as a practice of popular spirituality
