[[abstract]]From Jean-François Lyotard’s postmodern knowledge discourse to analyze the knowledge condition of higher education in Taiwan Abstract This study aims at interpreting Jean-François Lyotard’s postmodern knowledge and basing his analysis towards postmodern higher education gives some proper suggestion for higher education in Taiwan. Analytically, the goals of this study are as follow: 1.Depending on the historical context of western higher education development to observe the changing process of the knowledge position. 2.To analyze Lyotard’s postmodern knowledge discourse. 3.To discuss Lyotard’s postmodern knowledge discourse. 4.Based on Lyotard’s perspective on postmodern knowledge, to analyze the policy and direction of higher education in Taiwan. 5.According to the analysis. To provide proper points of view for higher education in Taiwan. After careful interpretation of Lyotard’s discourse on postmodern knowledge, the an thou of knowledge condition for higher education in Taiwan, the following conclusion are made: 1.Lyotard thinks that the set of meta-narrative built since the age of Enlightenment facing the crisis of disintegration. The crisis of meta-narrative leads the function of higher education towards the development of long life education. 2.Based on the pragmatics, Lyotard thinks that the crisis of meta-narrative is the main reason to cause various kinds of language games, and the tendency of interdisciplinary in higher education is a “move” of language game. 3.The delegitimation of knowledge in the postmodern leads the knowledge research in higher education towards diversification. But the emphasis on the performativity in postmodern society also causes higher education tend to develop some practical knowledge. 4.The performativity and power are double criterions of knowledge in the postmodern, and it causes higher education put emphasis on developing students’ professional competence on learning aspect and scientific knowledge on research aspect. 5.The tendency of knowledge commercialization and performativity causes higher education some serious transformations on the teaching and learning aspect. Based on the above finding, the following recommendations are proposed for betterment of theoretical and practical aspects for higher education in Taiwan: 1.To built some unique value of higher education under the tendency of massification and marketization. 2.To distinguish different quality and function of higher education. 3.To avoid the organization and function of higher education inactivity. 4.To emphasize the teaching responsibility of teacher and interactive relationship between teacher and student in higher education.

Two-piano performance : its classification, history, and challenges, with a compilation of a detailed catalogue of works

No full text
Research into the art of duo piano playing has been severely neglected. Repertoire is generally incorporated into books on solo piano playing and is often omitted from chamber work listings. With the exception of one outdated, out-of-print book by Hans Moldenhauer, I no author has attempted to submit a recent repertoire listing or a complete examination of the complications of duo pianism. The growth in the number of duos and the increasing number of concerts devoted to their repertoire indicates a previously unmatched public interest in the genre. The aim of this thesis is to serve as a reference guide for educators and pianists, in understanding the classification problems of the duo piano genre and how it relates to other pianistic combinations, an examination of the history of two-piano works until 1950, a look at professional and artistic challenges of duo piano playing, and a catalogue of works written for the medium. Confusion exists about the meaning of the word duet. At issue is whether the genre refers to two pianists at one keyboard exclusively, or whether it incorporates two pianists at two keyboards. Various sources were consulted to show that no uniform definition is available. In this initial chapter background to the study is given, available literature is reviewed and research methodology is explained

A population of BJ fibroblasts escaped from Ras-induced senescence susceptible to transformation

No full text
Oncogenic stimuli such as H-Ras induce oncogene-induced senescence (OIS) in fibroblasts to protect against transformation. Here we found that a population of the human diploid fibroblasts can escape from OIS induced by H-RasV12. We designated these OIS-escaped cells as OISEC (OIS-escaped cells). OISEC lost the expression of p16 which plays an important role for cell cycle arrest for induction of senescence, but OISEC preserved the p16 expression machinery and exhibited senescence by the treatment with hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) as stress-induced premature senescence (SIPS). OISEC did not possess anchorage-independent growth potential, and functional disruption of p53 and Rb by SV40 early region encoding large T and small t antigens, induced the aneuploidy phenotype and colony-forming potential of OISEC together with the exhibition of in vivo tumor formation. Finally, we also found that the distinctive feature of OISEC is expression of transcription factors, Oct3/4, SOX2, and Nanog which is closely related to stem-like cell features. This study highlights the presence of a cell population which escaped from OIS, and this OISEC may transform into malignant cancer cells by the additional hits of several genes in vivo

Detailed optical and near-infrared polarimetry, spectroscopy and broad-band photometry of the afterglow of GRB 091018 : polarization evolution

No full text
Follow-up observations of large numbers of gamma-ray burst (GRB) afterglows, facilitated by the Swift satellite, have produced a large sample of spectral energy distributions and light curves, from which their basic micro- and macro-physical parameters can in principle be derived. However, a number of phenomena have been observed that defy explanation by simple versions of the standard fireball model, leading to a variety of new models. Polarimetry can be a major independent diagnostic of afterglow physics, probing the magnetic field properties and internal structure of the GRB jets. In this paper we present the first high-quality multi-night polarimetric light curve of a Swift GRB afterglow, aimed at providing a well-calibrated data set of a typical afterglow to serve as a benchmark system for modelling afterglow polarization behaviour. In particular, our data set of the afterglow of GRB 091018 (at redshift z = 0.971) comprises optical linear polarimetry (R band, 0.13-2.3d after burst); circular polarimetry (R band) and near-infrared linear polarimetry (Ks band). We add to that high-quality optical and near-infrared broad-band light curves and spectral energy distributions as well as afterglow spectroscopy. The linear polarization varies between 0 and 3per cent, with both long and short time-scale variability visible. We find an achromatic break in the afterglow light curve, which corresponds to features in the polarimetric curve. We find that the data can be reproduced by jet break models only if an additional polarized component of unknown nature is present in the polarimetric curve. We probe the ordered magnetic field component in the afterglow through our deep circular polarimetry, finding P circ < 0.15per cent (2σ), the deepest limit yet for a GRB afterglow, suggesting ordered fields are weak, if at all present. Our simultaneous R- and Ks-band polarimetry shows that dust-induced polarization in the host galaxy is likely negligible

The thesis deals with multidisciplinary cooperation and how it can be supported by means of interior design. The author studied the meaning of multidisciplinary cooperation and approached it through the Medici Effect. The Medici Effect was launched by Frans Johansson; it describes the intersection of different branches and cultures. These intersections provide a great place for new ideas and innovations to emerge. The author contemplated factors that affect one’s creativity and ability to create ideas. Surroundings and spaces were under special scrutiny. The author studied Open innovation space (OIS) – action at Savonia University of Applied Sciences. OIS means a space where multidisciplinarity, closeness to working life and the student’s active role are highlighted. The aim of the author was to study multidisciplinary cooperation and to create a concept that supports OIS-action and helps interaction between the users of the space. As a result, a space concept was produced that can be adapted to a working place for multidisciplinary project teams. The floor plan is designed in such a way that the users of the space will automatically meet, i. e. different branches continually cross one another. The space concept is introduced to the reader by 3D modelled pictures and texts

François Mauriac was one of the 20th century author who actively writing novels with a major theme of inner conflict and human suffering. In many of his books Mauriac creating characters who are hungry for love, loneliness, and pitiable. Le Désert de L'Amour was written by Mauriac in 1924. This novel is one of Mauriacs books that depicting the human condition and this book is a material object in this thesis. This novel tells about the life romance between individuals with different generations. The relationship between the main character describes the lack of acceptance of love from others thats needed by each individual, so that each character has an obsession for love as they want through rivalries. Through the competition emerging power relations are represented in the social power relation that includes the scope of public and domestic. Michel Foucault's notion of power used to describe the relationship between the individual's power. The author also uses social dominance theory written by Jim Sidanius and Felicia Pratto to connect the correlation between the power and domination. Through the use of the concepts found the power relations in relationships novel figures in Le Désert de L'Amour. It affects dominance that manifested in three aspects, among others: the difference in age (age-based), gender segregation (gender-based), social status classification (arbitrary-set). This novel tells a different thing from the truth. Power relations that exist in this novel occurs not because of the strong side is dominating the weak side, but some occur because of the side that are considered weak can dominate the strong side. This can be seen clearly on the relationships of power that occurred because of the dominance of the young against the old side and reinforced by the emergence of gender domination of women to men. This various p henomena of power that occurs are due to the love needs of each individual
