A</i> <i>.</i> <i>Lombardi</i> 3639 (holotype BHCB51149!).</p> <p> <b>Diagnosis:—</b> <i>Similis Dorstenia albertiio sed inflorescentis rubris et viridibus; margine inflorescentiae longe appendiculato-bracteata differt.</i></p> <p> <b>Description:—</b> Herb to subshrub 30–50 cm tall; rhizome elongate, mainly supraterraneous; stem 4–5 mm thick, glabrous to sparsely puberulous, internodes up to 1–3 cm long. Leaves in spiral: lamina oblong-cordate 14–20 x 10–12 cm, chartaceous, apex acute, base cordate, margin entire to denticulate; adaxial side glabrous; abaxial side puberulous, lateral veins 6–7 pairs, tertiary venation reticulate; petiole 10–12 cm long, puberulous; stipules persistent, ovate to oblong acuminate, 5–8 mm long, plurinerveous, coriaceous, glabrous to puberulous. Coenanthium reddish; peduncle 4 cm long, diminutely puberulous; receptacle centrally attached, pateliform, 1–1,2 cm in diameter, outside dark green, minutely puberulous, internal side purplish, external side dark green, minutely puberulous; internal side purplish, glabrous to minutely puberulous, margin reddish, undulate; fringe to 0,4 mm long, long-appendiculate, appendages 9–17, 1 submarginal row, clavate, 0,5–1 cm long, reddish, puberulous short and long intercalate, usually with a green bract on its apex; staminate flowers among the pistillate flowers; tepals 2, stamens 2, puberulous, filament long; stigmas 2. Endocarp body not observed.</p> <p> <b>Distribution and Habitat:</b> — <i>Dorstenia acangatara</i> is known only from two localities, from municipality of Caratinga, east Minas Gerais state and Alegre, south of Espírito Santo state, in Brazil, at elevations from 850 to 990 m in montane rainforest (collections marked by black dots in Fig. 3).</p> <p>This species is a camephyte from shady and moist areas, which occur in litter soils, inside forests of the type locality. The new species is endemic to southeastern Brazil, found in the understory of wet tropical rainforest.</p> <p> <b>Etymology:</b> —In the tupi language the epithet “acangatara” [<i>acanga</i> =head + <i>tara</i> =adornment] refers to the exuberant aspect of the coenanthium like a head adornment used by the Tupi’s, one of the main ethnic groups of Brazilian indigenous people.</p> <p> <b>MAP 1:</b> Location of <i>Dorstenia acangatara</i> populations in Brazil (Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo states).</p> <p> <b>Aditional speciments examined (paratypes):</b> — BRAZIL. F.P. <i>Machado et al. 855; 856; 858; 874 and 875</i> (HUEFS, RB).</p> <p> <b>Conservation Status:</b> —According to IUCN (2011) criteria, this species is considered Critically Endangered (CR B1a) because its area of occupancy is less than 100 Km². The new species is known only from two localities.</p> <p> <b>Discussion:</b> —This species falls into Carauta’s (1978) and Berg’s (2001) <i>Dorstenia</i> sect. <i>Dorstenia</i> L. species group. <i>Dorstenia acangatara</i> is characterized by the reddish coenanthium, with long appendages on its margin. The new species resembles <i>D. albertii</i> Carauta, Valente & Sucre (1974a:63), which also occurs in the Atlantic forest. The two species shares oblong-cordate leaves and distance between the internodes, but can be promptly distinguished by inflorescence reddish with the margin appendiculate-bracteate. The new species also resembles <i>Dorstenia fischeri</i> Bureau (1873:211) by the stipules shape and distance between the internodes, but differs by nonpeltate leaves and appendiculate inflorescence margin (TABLE 1).</p>Published as part of <i>Vianna, Marcelo D. Single Nucleotide Variants And Indels Identified From Whole-genome Re-sequencing Of Guzerat, Gyr, Girolando And Holstein Cattle Breeds
Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (CNPq)Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES)Whole-genome re-sequencing, alignment and annotation analyses were undertaken for 12 sires representing four important cattle breeds in Brazil: Guzerat (multi-purpose), Gyr, Girolando and Holstein (dairy production). A total of approximately 4.3 billion reads from an Illumina HiSeq 2000 sequencer generated for each animal 10.7 to 16.4-fold genome coverage. A total of 27,441,279 single nucleotide variations (SNVs) and 3,828,041 insertions/deletions (InDels) were detected in the samples, of which 2,557,670 SNVs and 883,219 InDels were novel. The submission of these genetic variants to the dbSNP database significantly increased the number of known variants, particularly for the indicine genome. The concordance rate between genotypes obtained using the Bovine HD BeadChip array and the same variants identified by sequencing was about 99.05%. The annotation of variants identified numerous non-synonymous SNVs and frameshift InDels which could affect phenotypic variation. Functional enrichment analysis was performed and revealed that variants in the olfactory transduction pathway was over represented in all four cattle breeds, while the ECM-receptor interaction pathway was over represented in Girolando and Guzerat breeds, the ABC transporters pathway was over represented only in Holstein breed, and the metabolic pathways was over represented only in Gyr breed. Aspectos morfossedimentares da praia das Rendeiras, Laguna da Conceição (Ilha de Santa Catarina - SC)

Programa de Pós-Graduação em Geografia.A Praia das Rendeiras se localiza na porção central da laguna da conceição, ilha de Santa Catarina, estendendo-se no sentido leste-oeste ao longo de aproximadamente 2km da margem. A praia é moldada pela ação de ondas, resultantes da atuação de ventos de norte/nordeste sobre o corpo lagunar, e sofre forte influência de estruturas antrópicas. O objetivo desse trabalho consistiu em identificar as características morfossedimentares da praia, dando uma maior ênfase à morfológica do banco marginal submerso associado à praia. A caracterização teve como base a coleta e processamento de dados batimétricos, sedimentológicos e de fotos de campo, além do cálculo da pista efetiva de vento (fetch) ao longo da praia. Os resultados mostraram uma forte heterogeneidade nas características morfológicas, tanto nas áreas emersas quanto nas áreas submersas. Os sedimentos se comportaram de forma mais homogênea, com tamanho de grão na classe areia fina, bem selecionada, para toda a praia. Os teores de carbonato biodetrítico se apresentaram maiores na porção central, e os teores de matéria orgânica total, nas extremidades. Os maiores valores de fetch encontrados coincidem com o setor de maior declividade e menor volume sedimentar. O setor com o maior desenvolvimento do pós-praia apresenta menor grau de exposição e mais de 50% dos aportes pluviais existentes. Com base nos resultados foi possível identificar três setores morfologicamente distintos: oeste, central e leste. O grau de exposição e o fetch aumentam do extremo leste para o extremo oeste. A heterogeneidade ao longo da praia é controlada pelos seguintes fatores: orientação da linha de costa, morfologia lagunar, grau de exposição e influência de estruturas antrópicas. The Rendeiras beach is located in the central portion of Conceição Lagoon, Santa Catarina island, extending with a east-west orientation along approximately 2km of the margin. The beach is molded by the action of incident waves, resulting from the performance of north/northeast winds on the water, indeed suffers strong influence of antrophogenic structures. The objective of this work consisted of identifying the morfosedimentary characteristics of the beach, with emphasis on the morphology of the marginal submerged bank associated with the beach. The characterization had as base the collection and geoprocessing of bathymetric, sedimentological and field pictures data, besides the calculation of the effective wind fetch along the beach. The results showed a strong heterogeneity in the morphologic characteristics, not only in the emerged but also in the submerged areas. The submerged area presents morphologic features such as transverse bars and mega ripples, with different morphologies depending on the place of occurence. The sediments behaved in a more homogeneous way, with grain size in the fine sand class, well sorted, for the whole beach. The major concentrations of biodetritical carbonate were found in the central portion, and the total organic matter, in the beach extremities. The largest values of fetch coincide with the largest steepness section and the smallest sedimentary volume. The most developed backshore presents a smaller exposure degree to the waves and wind and more than 50% of the existent pluvial contributions. According to the results was possible to identify three sections with different morphological types: west, central and east. The exposure degree and fetch increase from the central part of the beach toward the extremities. The transverse bars orientation and steepness values suggest the existence of currents generated by waves in opposite directions, starting from the central section. Relação conceitual entre identidade organizacional e competência essencial: implicações para gestão do conhecimento

Origem, relações conceituais e metodologias de identificação dão suporte às análises e à construção de relações teóricas e às práticas de gestão. A identidade organizacional é um constructo coletivo, suscita a interação entre: (a) os níveis individuais e coletivos de análise, (b) a cognição do indivíduo sobre o que é a organização, resultante da relação dialética entre cognição coletiva compartilhada e (c) as cognições individuais socialmente construídas. Refere-se à pergunta "quem somos nós enquanto organização" (ALBERT; WHETTEN, 1985). A competência essencial é compreendida como uma capacidade especial da organização e distinguida se satisfizer três critérios: contribuir significativamente para o benefício de um cliente ou produto; ser competitivamente única e, como tal, deve ser difícil para os concorrentes imitar; e proporcionar o acesso potencial a uma ampla variedade de mercados (HAMEL E PRAHALAD, 1990). Este estudo teórico evidencia a relação entre identidade organizacional e competência essencial, mostrando que a identidade pode ser uma competência Essencial da organização, pode servir de apoio ou ameaça à construção de novas competências, é aguçada com os processos de mudança, tem implicações no processo de tomada de decisão, e, consequentemente sobre a Gestão do Conhecimento.This study is aimed at understanding the relationship between organizational identity and core competence. Origin, conception relationships and identification methodology give support to analyses, theoretical relationships and management practices. Organizational identity is a collective construct that leads to: (a) interaction between individual and collective levels, (b) the individual perception about what the organization is, which results from the dialetic relationship between collective shared knowledge and (c) personal knowledge socially acquired. Organizational identity refers to the question #who we are as an organization# (ALBERT; WHETTEN, 1985). Core competence is understood as a special organization ability that is characterized by tree criteria: to contribute significantly to a costumer or product benefict; to be unique so that it can hardly be imitated by its competing companies and to potentially permit the access to a large variety of markets (HAMEL E PRAHALAD, 1990). This theoretic study is focused on the relationship between the Organizational Identity and the Core Competence and shows that the Identity can be a Core Competence of an organization, can support or be a drawback to new competences development, increases during changing processes, play an important role in the decision making processes and, as a matter of fact, in Knowledge Management
Phocine distemper Virus : current knowledge and future directions
Phocine distemper virus (PDV) was first recognized in 1988 following a massive epidemic in harbor and grey seals in north-western Europe. Since then, the epidemiology of infection in North Atlantic and Arctic pinnipeds has been investigated. In the western North Atlantic endemic infection in harp and grey seals predates the European epidemic, with relatively small, localized mortality events occurring primarily in harbor seals. By contrast, PDV seems not to have become established in European harbor seals following the 1988 epidemic and a second event of similar magnitude and extent occurred in 2002. PDV is a distinct species within the Morbillivirus genus with minor sequence variation between outbreaks over time. There is now mounting evidence of PDV-like viruses in the North Pacific/Western Arctic with serological and molecular evidence of infection in pinnipeds and sea otters. However, despite the absence of associated mortality in the region, there is concern that the virus may infect the large Pacific harbor seal and northern elephant seal populations or the endangered Hawaiian monk seals. Here, we review the current state of knowledge on PDV with particular focus on developments in diagnostics, pathogenesis, immune response, vaccine development, phylogenetics and modeling over the past 20 years.Peer reviewe
Zoneamento ambiental para a palmeira juçara com foco na produção de frutos: potencialidades para a agricultura familiar
Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Centro de Ciências Agrárias, Programa de Pós-Graduação em Agroecossistemas, Florianópolis, 2012Estudos científicos vêm demonstrando a viabilidade e rentabilidade da produção de frutos da palmeira juçara (Euterpe edulis Martius) em sistemas agroflorestais nas paisagens na Mata Atlântica. Cultivar a palmeira juçara como espécie frutífera, além de ser uma atividade de exploração sustentável da espécie, favorece a diversificação de áreas produtivas e, por ser uma prática permitida pela legislação ambiental em áreas de preservação permanente (APP) e pode gerar renda na agricultura familiar, com a produção de açaí e com o uso das sementes para produção de mudas. Este trabalho tem como objetivo elaborar em uma microbacia hidrográfica (escala de 1:50.000) um zoneamento ambiental para E. edulis com foco na produção de frutos, como uma primeira aproximação para subsidiar políticas públicas para esta cultura. Utilizando-se técnicas de geoprocessamento em um sistema de informações geográficas, foi elaborado o zoneamento de uma microbacia hidrográfica no município de Garuva-SC. Foram estabelecidas quatro classes de aptidão para o cultivo agroflorestal da palmeira juçara: Boa, Regular, Restrita e Inapta. Os seguintes critérios foram utilizados para o mapeamento: 1) características dos solos; 2) altitude e 3) exposição de vertentes. Também se avaliou a situação das APP ripárias quanto ao cumprimento da legislação ambiental e o uso atual das terras na microbacia selecionada. A microbacia hidrográfica do Rio Sete Voltas, com 3.060 ha, foi selecionada como representativa do município para a aplicação da proposta de zoneamento. Os resultados do estudo indicaram que a maior parte (55%) desta microbacia apresenta potencial para o cultivo agroflorestal da palmeira juçara com foco na produção de frutos, abrangendo uma área de 1.713,76 ha. Um passivo ambiental de 41 ha foi identificado nas APP ripárias desta microbacia, consistindo em áreas prioritárias para implantação de sistemas agroflorestais com E. edulis, onde pode-se aliar preservação e recuperação ambiental com a possibilidade de geração de renda. Nas áreas com boa aptidão, constatou-se que o cultivo pode ser feito tanto em consórcio com outras culturas (por exemplo, em 83 ha constituídos por bananais) como para acrescentar áreas produtivas, identificados em 156 ha da microbacia. O modelo proposto poderá ser aplicado em ouras regiões, sempre se adaptando às condições locais e base de dados disponíveis, e os mapas gerados poderão ser úteis em estudos relacionados ao planejamento agro-ambiental do município. Abstract : Several works have shown that juçara palm (Euterpe edulis Martius) agroforestry for fruit harvesting is a rentable and viable crop growing system at Atlantic Forest landscapes. The cultivation of this palm is a sustainable use for the species and can benefits rural communities in different matters, such as income from açaí drink increasing market, agricultural intensification, food production in protected areas and forest recovering, in fact encouraged by Brazilian environmental law. The objective of this work is to present a small scale (1:50.000) zoning for E. edulis with focus on fruit harvesting, representing an early support for investment programs using this crop. In order to define land suitability, four levels of potential were determined (High, Regular, Restricted and None) taking under consideration the following variables: 1) soil features 2) altitude and 3) slope orientation. Instrumented by the techniques of remote sensing and geographic information system, the zoning model was applied at Rio Sete Voltas watershed, municipality of Garuva, Santa Catarina State, Brazil. Protected Areas at riparian forests were rated as advocated in Brazilian environmental legislation and the current land uses were identified. Results indicate that most part of the studied area (55%) is suitable for juçara-palm-based agroforestry, ranging 1.713,76 ha. A total of 41 ha of riparian forests lacks forest recovery, which can be fitted through juçara palm based agroforestry and associated species that can bring any income. At the most potential areas, E. edulis can be associated with other crops such as with bananas, in 83 ha, or as an alternative agroforestry component at 156 ha of non-arable lands, as observed in this watershed. Methods of the zoning proposal can be applied at several regions, always attempting to evaluate local conditions and the available data base. Maps can be used in different studies concerning environmental management and planning of Garuva municipality
Emprego da microfiltração tangencial na obtenção de leite fermentado prebiótico
Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Centro Tecnológico, Programa de Pós-Graduação em Engenharia de Alimentos, Florianópolis, 2009.Através do processo de microfiltração (MF) em substituição a pasteurização do leite, foi obtido um microfiltrado com características físico-químicas e microbiológicas adequadas, sendo possível o seu empregado na elaboração de um leite fermentado padrão e de um leite fermentado prebiótico (adição de 5 % de inulina). Através das análises físico-químicas, durante 28 dias de armazenamento sob refrigeração (5 ± 1°C), pôde-se verificar que os teores de lipídios, proteínas e cinzas não foram influenciados (p > 0,05) pela adição de inulina, no entanto, o leite fermentado prebiótico durante o armazenamento, apresentou um aumento (p 0,05) durante os 28 dias de armazenamento, porém a adição de inulina proporcionou uma maior (p 0.05) by the addition of inulin. However, during storage the prebiotic fermented milk showed an increase (p 0.05) over the 28-day storage period, however, the addition of inulin resulted in a product with greater (p < 0.05) firmness and cohesiveness, and also led to a reduction (p < 0.05) in the syneresis index. The prebiotic fermented milk showed a lower tendency toward a greenish coloration, while the storage time led to an increase in a yellowish coloration. Over the 21- day storage period the rheological properties were evaluated at temperatures of 4°C and 6°C and the fermented milk samples had shear thinning, non-Newtonian and thixotropic fluid characteristics. The addition of inulin led to an increase (p < 0.05) in the apparent viscosity, and also a greater thixotropy (p < 0.05), which was represented by a greater area of hysteresis. It was observed that for the two fermented milk samples the apparent viscosity increased (p < 0.05) over a 21-day storage period. An increase in the temperature from 4°C to 6°C resulted in a decrease in the apparent viscosity and the hysteresis (p < 0.05)
Recurrent Genomic Alterations In Sequential Progressive Leukoplakia And Oral Cancer: Drivers Of Oral Tumorigenesis?
A significant proportion (up to 62%) of oral squamous cell carcinomas (OSCCs) may arise from oral potential malignant lesions (OPMLs), such as leukoplakia. Patient outcomes may thus be improved through detection of lesions at a risk for malignant transformation, by identifying and categorizing genetic changes in sequential, progressive OPMLs. We conducted array comparative genomic hybridization analysis of 25 sequential, progressive OPMLs and same-site OSCCs from five patients. Recurrent DNA copy number gains were identified on 1p in 20/25 cases (80%) with minimal, high-level amplification regions on 1p35 and 1p36. Other regions of gains were frequently observed: 11q13.4 (68%), 9q34.13 (64%), 21q22.3 (60%), 6p21 and 6q25 (56%) and 10q24, 19q13.2, 22q12, 5q31.2, 7p13, 10q24 and 14q22 (48%). DNA losses were observed in >20% of samples and mainly detected on 5q31.2 (35%), 16p13.2 (30%), 9q33.1 and 9q33.29 (25%) and 17q11.2, 3p26.2, 18q21.1, 4q34.1 and 8p23.2 (20%). Such copy number alterations (CNAs) were mapped in all grades of dysplasia that progressed, and their corresponding OSCCs, in 70% of patients, indicating that these CNAs may be associated with disease progression. Amplified genes mapping within recurrent CNAs (KHDRBS1, PARP1, RAB1A, HBEGF, PAIP2, BTBD7) were selected for validation, by quantitative real-time PCR, in an independent set of 32 progressive leukoplakia, 32 OSSCs and 21 non-progressive leukoplakia samples. Amplification of BTBD7, KHDRBS1, PARP1 and RAB1A was exclusively detected in progressive leukoplakia and corresponding OSCC. BTBD7, KHDRBS1, PARP1 and RAB1A may be associated with OSCC progression.
