    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed.     Variations on the Author

    “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Programa de Pós-Graduação em Engenharia Mecânica.O objetivo deste trabalho é a otimização do custo de seções transversais de concreto armado, utilizando um algoritmo de programação matemática. Como aplicação, serão otimizadas as seções transversais da viga principal de uma ponte rodoviária, considerando apenas o momento fletor. A otimização deve buscar o menor custo, considerando as dimensões das peças, disposições construtivas, resistência dos materiais e esforços solicitantes. Além de respeitar as restrições impostas por normas, processos de fabricação, transporte e montagem. Foram desenvolvidos algoritmos para dimensionamento de seções transversais em concreto armado de geometria retangular, circular e seção "T", com carregamento axial e flexão em torno de um eixo. Também foram desenvolvidos códigos computacionais para geração das linhas de influência e envoltória de esforços para uma viga principal de pontes rodoviárias com a superestrutura em viga contínua. As linhas de influência são obtidas através de uma seqüência de soluções e pós-processamento da estrutura com carregamento unitário, utilizando elementos finitos com elementos de viga 2D. Para otimizar as seções, adotou-se o Método da Penalidade Exterior pela facilidade de implementação em problemas não lineares, como é o caso de uma seção de concreto armado. The aim of this dissertation is the optimization of the cross section in reinforced concrete beams employing mathematical programming algorithms. As an application, one will optimize the cross section of the main beam of a bridge, considering bending moment only. The optimization process aims at finding the smallest material cost, by considering the structures dimension, layout, strength of the materials and the applied loads. Besides, it must be in accordance with the design norms, fabrication process, transportation limitations and building procedures. Algorithms for dimensionality of cross section of reinforced concrete to rectangular, circle and "T" section, with axial and bending loading, were developed. Also, was implemented, computational code for influence lines and involved generation of loading for a main beam of a bridge with the superstructure in continuous beam. The influence lines are obtained through of sequential solutions and pos-processing of structure under unit loading, employing finite elements with 2D element beam. To optimization of sections, Method of External Penalty was employing by facilities of implement for nonlinear problems, like is the case of cross section of reinforced concrete

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

    Potencialidades e desafios de um aeroporto para transporte aéreo de carga na mesorregião oeste potiguar

    MonografiaThe use and modernization of the air modal is in growing development, but currently still presents low use when compared to other modal. This type of transport offers advantages such as speed of delivery, greater care of loads due to strict quality control, low accident and theft rate, access to distant areas, which direct access by sea or road is not possible. Although it presents many advantages, the main limiting factor to its use is the high cost, being more used for products with greater added value, since it also has limitation as to the load capacity, rendering unviable the transport of loads in bulk. The objective of this study was to identify the existing potential in the state of Rio Grande do Norte (RN), and the challenges presented by them for the feasibility of implementing or adapting an airport for air cargo transportation in the western mesoregion of the state. Currently, there are 2 airports in the RN, one of them located in the eastern mesoregion, which carries out national and international flights, for passenger and cargo transportation, with a modern infrastructure. The other is located in the western mesoregion and has been deactivated for seven years, having been reactivated in 2018, with only simple flights, from Mossoró to Recife. Data on productivity, sales and exports, which were characterized as potential for the air transport of cargoes, were investigated and identified the challenges presented by them. It was verified that the state has potential in some sectors, such as textiles and clothing, livestock, and especially in fruit growing, some products produced in the region with nationally and internationally recognized quality. However, it was concluded that the productive volume of the state, coupled with current demand, is still insufficient to justify such an investment, lacking public and private investments and initiatives that value production in the state. In this way, it was suggested actions and investments that can be made for the development and use of this potential in the future, making possible the implantation of the airport.A utilização e modernização do modal aeroviário está em crescente desenvolvimento, mas atualmente ainda apresenta baixa utilização quando comparado a outros modais. Este modal de transporte oferece vantagens como agilidade na entrega, maiores cuidados com as cargas devido o controle de qualidade rigoroso, baixo índice de acidentes e furtos, acesso a áreas distantes e cujo acesso direto via marítima ou rodoviária não é possível. Apesar de apresentar muitas vantagens, o principal fator limitante à sua utilização é o alto custo, sendo mais utilizado para produtos com maior valor agregado, visto que também possui limitação quanto à capacidade de carga, tornando inviável transporte de cargas à granel. O trabalho teve como objetivo identificar os potenciais existentes no estado do Rio Grande do Norte (RN), e quais os desafios apresentados por estes para a viabilidade de implantação ou adaptação de um aeroporto para transporte aéreo de cargas na mesorregião Oeste do estado. Atualmente, existem 2 aeroportos no RN, sendo um deles situado na mesorregião leste, o qual realiza voos nacionais e internacionais, para transporte de passageiros e de cargas, apresentando infraestrutura moderna. O outro situa-se na mesorregião oeste e esteve desativado por sete anos, tendo sido reativado no ano de 2018, realizando voos apenas voos simples, de Mossoró a Recife. Foram pesquisados dados sobre produtividade, vendas e exportações, que se caracterizassem como potenciais para o transporte aéreo de cargas, e identificados quais os desafios apresentados por estes porenciais. Foi verificado que o estado apresenta potencial em alguns setores, como têxtil e confecções, pecuário, e principalmente na fruticultura, sendo alguns produtos produzidos na região com qualidade reconhecida nacional e internacionalmente. Porém, concluiu-se que o volume produtivo do estado, atrelado a demanda atual, ainda são insuficientes para justificar um investimento desse porte, carecendo de investimentos e iniciativas públicas e privadas que valorizem a produção no estado.     We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
