Pemanfaatan Moodle pada Identifikasi Kendala dalam Soal Reading dengan Format Tes TOEIC
Most TOEIC test takers who score low are unfamiliar with the format of the test. This study aims to identify the problems that will likely become obstacles in the Reading Section of the TOEIC test. The data come from the results of the English I online final exam in the second term of 2017/2018 as well as the English II online mid-term and final exam in the first term of 2018/2019, all of which were held in Politeknik Negeri Batam. The exams are part of Moodle-based e-learning courses. The data consist of questions which have a low percentage of correct answers. The analysis was done by classifying the questions based on the five abilities measured in the Reading Section (vocabulary, grammar, specific information, inference, and connection). Based on the analysis, it can be observed that the biggest challenge comes from grammar, while the search for specific information poses little to no problem at all. It means the students still consider Reading Section of TOEIC test requires no special attention.

Kajian Produksi Jamur Kuping (Auricularia Auriculajudae) Pada Berbagai Komposisi Media Tanam
Ear mushroom (Auricularia aurilajudae) is a potential fungus as a food ingredient and has medicinal properties. Ear mushroom development is profitable because of the high demand and high selling prices. One of the problems in ear mushroom cultivation is the composition of the growing media which has a big effect on its production. This study aims to determine the composition of the best growing media for ear mushroom production. This study used a completely randomized design method (CRD) with one factor, namely the composition of the growing media (1000 gr of sawdust and 200 gr cocopeat (M1); 1000 gr of sawdust and 200 gr of rice bran (M2); 1000 gr of sawdust, 100 gr cocopeat, and 100 gr bran (M3); powder sawdust 1000 gr, cocopeat 135 gr and bran 65 gr (M4); sawdust 1000 gr, cocopeat 65 gr, and rice bran 135 gr (M5). Data were analyzed using analysis of variance and further tests with the least significant difference (LSD) at 5% if the results were significant. The composition of the planting medium had a very significant effect on the number of hoods, cover area, wet weight, and dry weight of ear mushrooms. However, the composition of the planting medium did not affect the growth rate of mycelium. The best composition of the planting medium for ear mushroom production was 1000 gr sawdust, cocopeat 65 gr, and bran 135 gr.Jamur kuping (Auricularia auriculajudae) merupakan jamur potensial sebagai bahan makanan dan berkhasiat obat.
IDENTIFYING VOCATIONAL STUDENT’S FAMILIARITY WITH VOCABULARY IN ACADEMIC CONTEXT IN ABSTRACT WRITING
In order to write an abstract that appeals to a broader audience, it is important to understand the vocabulary used in the context. By identifying words used in the abstracts of undergraduate thesis from Politeknik Negeri Batam students and comparing them with those used in other academic writings, this research attempts to show that developing student’s awareness of academic writing genre is critical for their progress. The data were taken from the abstract section of undergraduate thesis of Politeknik Negeri Batam students published in 2018, which were compiled into a corpus. From the corpus, the keywords and word profile would be identified, which could then be compared to other corpora. Two word lists (New General Service List and New Academic Word List) were selected as the level lists in carrying out word profiling during the analysis. The results show that the students lacked the necessary words and had not yet recognized the genre of academic writing
An Analysis of the Accuracy of Time Domain 3D Image Geology Model Resulted from PSTM and Depth Domain 3D Image Geology Model Resulted from PSDM in Oil and Gas Exploration
This study aims to obtain a geological model which is close to the truth and compare accuracy between the time domain 3D image of the PSTM results with the depth domain 3D image of PSDM results. There are 3 parameters to determine the accuracy of an interval velocity model in the production of a geology model: depth gathering that is already flat, semblance that has concurred with zero residual move-out axes, and depth image which conforms to the marker (well seismic tie). The analytical method employed is Horizon Based Tomography, which is a method to correct the seismic wave travel time error along the analyzed horizon. Reducing errors in the travel time of the seismic wave will decrease depth errors. This improvement is expected to provide correct information about subsurface geological conditions. The results showed that the depth domain image generated by the PSDM process represents the actual geological model better than time domain image produced by the PSTM process, evidenced by the sharpening of the reflector continuity, reduction of pull-up effect, and high resolution
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods
