TRANSFORMASI PEMIKIRAN DAN NASIONALISME ABUL KALAM AZAD (1888-1958M) DI INDIA
Artikel ini mengkaji usaha dan sumbangan Abul Kalam Azad dalam gerakan islah dan pembaharuan di India. Dalam usaha memperjuangkan ideologi perpaduan antara nasionalisme dan pan-Islam, Abul Kalam Azad cuba untuk menimbulkan rasa cinta masyarakat Islam dan Hindu terhadap tanah air (semangat patriotisme) dan agama kerana menganggap dua perkara tersebut seiring yang tidak boleh dipisahkan. Objektif kajian ini adalah untuk meneliti latar belakang Abul Kalam Azad serta meneroka sumbangan beliau dalam transformasi nasionalisme serta pemikiran Islam sebagai panduan masyarakat Islam dan di India. Kajian berbentuk kualitatif ini menggunakan pendekatan kajian sejarah dan analisis kandungan. Kajian ini mengumpulkan data melalui dokumentasi yang berkaitan dengan Abul Kalam Azad. Dapatan kajian mendapati Abul Kalam Azad sebagai seorang tokoh pembaharuan pemikiran Islam telah menggunakan medan politik sebagai medan penanaman semangat sayangkan negara dan tanahair serta menghubungjalinkan persaudaraan kepada seluruh masyarakat di India. Dalam masa yang sama, berdasarkan keadaan umat Islam yang berada dalam kemunduran ketika itu, Abul Kalam Azad banyak menggunakan kaedah kefahaman Islam berasaskan tekstual-kontekstual bagi memudahkan penerapan dan kefahaman masyarakat Islam terhadap sumber ajaran Islam. Walau bagaimanapun transformasi pemikiran Azad memperlihatkan unsur pluralisme agama yang kuat dalam pemahaman beliau seperti yang terdapat dalam karya agungnya Tarjuman al-Quran

Modeling bank efficiency in Malaysia: An adaptive network data envelopment analysis approach / Md. Abul Kalam Azad
This study proposes an adaptive Network Data Envelopment Analysis (NDEA) technique, which examines efficiency of all 43 commercial banks operating in Malaysia by utilizing the three traditional bank efficiency measurement approaches (intermediation, production and profitability). From past studies, separate bank efficiency measurement approaches have proven to produce biased results. For instance, when bank efficiency is measured solely based on its profitability, banks’ long-term sustainability (capital ratio) could be ignored and affect the bank’s profitable status. This study also proposes CAMELS (Capital adequacy, Assets, Management-capability, Earnings, Liquidity, Sensitivity) rating in selecting the variables to measure bank efficiency by explaining how the variables are linked to each other. This has not been done in any previous studies. The contributions of this study are three-fold. This study explains how the traditional ‘black-box’ of input-output has failed to probe into the bank’s true efficiency. Secondly, by using the proposed model, the study empirically contributes in providing a better comparative efficiency measurement platform in Malaysian context. Thirdly, this study addresses the existence of undesirable bank output (i.e., bad debts) in determining bank efficiency. Findings of this study suggest that efficiency scores vary with respect to variable and approach selection. When considering the effect of business cycles, profitability approach is recommended. Whereas, intermediation approach should be more suitable in examining the bank performance with large time series data because it lies on the “going concern” accounting concept. This measure of bank performance refers to the ability of a bank to convert deposits into loans. Lastly, the production approach would give a holistic idea on the banks’ ability to serve the economy. In order to measure bank efficiency more accurately, it is also important to consider the undesirable outputs generated from banking operations. Past research stated that benchmarking of banks based only on net income could lead to bankruptcy even if that bank had high efficiency score. Lastly, the empirical findings of this study reveal that foreign Islamic banks are pioneer in all three nodes in the proposed NDEA model. These results signify an advanced capacity of foreign banks in risk mitigation, investment portfolio and liquidity management. In the context of Malaysian’s current bank regulations, with existing discriminations and government restrictions on foreign bank ownership, these results reveal that even in a favorable business condition, the Malaysian local conventional banks have not been performing well

After the time of the Holy Prophet (PBUH), The work on the interpretation of the Holy Qur’an began to be done from different angles. The people who resorted to the Ahadiths tried to interpret each verse from the Ahadiths and were quite successful in this, but one problem was that the verifying of the Ahadiths arose whether they really interpreted the Holy Qur’an. This was further worked on later. In the same way, those who started the work on opinion laid down rules for opinion so that no one could go astray while interpreting the Holy Qur’an. Maulana Abul Kalam Azad is one of the commentators on the principles of opinion. The scholarly position of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad is not hidden from anyone; the work he has done on history, politics, and religion scholars still benefit from his works. Maulana brought the subject to completion. If a list of ‘scholarly’ personalities is made in the history of India, then Maulana Abul Kalam Azad will appear in the initial numbers. Maulana’s most important work is ‘Tafseer Tarjuman-ul-Qur’an.’ The important topics discussed by Maulana in his Tafseer, such as research work, will be seen less in Urdu Tafaseer. This is not an exaggeration; for example, the research material that Maulana has included in his Tafsir regarding ‘Ashab-e-Kahaf’ and ‘Zul-Qarnain will not be seen anywhere in Urdu Tafseer. Here, along with the understanding of Maulana’s exegesis method, the merits of exegesis will be discussed in detail
