Tectonic Descemet Stripping Endothelial Keratoplasty for the Management of Corneal Perforation: A Case Series
Purpose: Corneal perforations pose a considerable challenge for ophthalmic surgeons. The aim remains restoring the anatomical integrity of eye while attempting to preserve as much visual function as possible. To our knowledge, we report the first case series of 4 successful tectonic Descemet stripping endothelial keratoplasty (DSEK) grafts completed for acute corneal perforation. In all cases, restoration of globe integrity was achieved. In cases where visual potential remained, deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty over DSEK was offered. Methods: Four patients presenting to Royal Gwent Hospital (Newport, Wales) with corneal perforation were included. Etiological origins included exposure keratopathy, corneal hydrops secondary to pellucid marginal degeneration with fistulization-associated aqueous leak, and herpetic keratitis. Patients were treated with initial temporary therapies, including glue patch, the use of bandage contact lenses, amniotic membrane transplant, and antibiotic cover, depending on the size and location of the perforation. Subsequent DSEK was subsequently performed under local anesthesia. Results: All patients had successful tectonic grafts (3 DSEKs and 1 hemi-DSEK) up to 4 months postoperatively. In the case involving a hemi-DSEK, the patient underwent 2 refloating attempts of the graft before anchoring suture placement because of repeated graft detachment. Successful graft placement and tectonic globe restoration was confirmed by anterior segment imaging. Conclusions: Tectonic DSEK provides corneal surgeons with a new modality of treating corneal perforations. It provides clinicians an additional tool in their armamentarium in complex cases where anterior lamellar or penetrating keratoplasty may be contraindicated or deemed high risk of complications
Faidh al-Ihsānī Naskah Manaqib Syaikh Abduṣ Ṣamad al-Palimbānī
The main problems of this research are 1) What is the general description of Faidh al-Ihsani's manuscript through a philological approach? 2) How is the biography of Shaykh Abdus Samad al-Palimbani related to the existence of the Faidh al-Ihsani manuscript and how is the analysis of the contents of the text? This research uses philological research methods with stages. The data used are qualitative data obtained from primary and secondary sources. This type of research is a library research study by presenting a facsimile edition of the FI manuscript text, transliterating the original Arabic-Malay text into Latin and at the same time analyzing it. From the research findings, it is known that the FI manuscript is a single manuscript (codex unicus), which contains several mistakes and omissions in writing the manuscript, and there are writings that are forgotten to be written. The contribution of the Faidh al-Ihsani manuscript is very important for the preparation of writing the biography of Shaykh Abdus Samad al-Palimbani, including: First, before the Faidh al-Ihsani manuscript was discovered, the history of the biography of Shaykh Abdus Samad al-Palimbani that has developed so far is still confusing and there are several mistake. Second, thanks to the presence of the FI manuscript, by itself it can neutralize and straighten the history of Shaykh Abdus Samad al-Palimbani's life journey from local sources. Third, Shaykh Abdus Samad al-Jawi al-Palimbani is a great charismatic cleric from Palembang, a well-known Sufi and writer who has a wide range of scholarship in the international network of scholars. Fourth, in the Faidh al-Ihsani manuscript it is stated that Shaykh Abdus Samad bin Abdurrahman was born in Palembang in 1150 H or at the same time 1737 AD. Fifth, Regarding the work, works and teachings of Shaykh Abdus Samad al-Palimbani until now, we can still find them, His written works such as Hidayat as-Salikin, Sair as-Salikin, and others are still being read and studied. Likewise with his teachings, reading manaqib, tarekat remembrance, especially Ratib Samman, are still carried out and practiced by the Islamic community in general
Mode-selective ballistic pathway to a metastable electronic phase
Exploiting vibrational excitation for the dynamic control of material properties is an attractive goal with wide-ranging technological potential. Most metal-to-insulator transitions are mediated by few structural modes and are, thus, ideal candidates for selective driving toward a desired electronic phase. Such targeted navigation within a generally multi-dimensional potential energy landscape requires microscopic insight into the non-equilibrium pathway. However, the exact role of coherent inertial motion across the transition state has remained elusive. Here, we demonstrate mode-selective control over the metal-to-insulator phase transition of atomic indium wires on the Si(111) surface, monitored by ultrafast low-energy electron diffraction. We use tailored pulse sequences to individually enhance or suppress key phonon modes and thereby steer the collective atomic motion within the potential energy surface underlying the structural transformation. Ab initio molecular dynamics simulations demonstrate the ballistic character of the structural transition along the deformation vectors of the Peierls amplitude modes. Our work illustrates that coherent excitation of collective modes via exciton-phonon interactions evades entropic barriers and enables the dynamic control of materials functionality
REINVESTIGATING THE GUIDANCE FOR JIHAD AGAINST COLONIALISM IN MALAY LANDS: A PHILOLOGICAL STUDY ON SHEIKH ABDUS SAMAD AL-PALIMBANI'S NASHIHAH AL-MUSLIMIN WA TADHKIRAH AL-MUKMININ
The wars of the colonial era in the Malay region, especially in Sumatra, could not be separated from the influence of the jihad campaign of Sheikh Abdus Samad al-Palimbani, a charismatic cleric at that time. This research examines al-Palimbani’s Nashihah al-Muslimin wa Tadhkirah al-Mukminin, which contains the call for jihad. Because this manuscript is hundreds of years old and this condition makes it difficult to read, this research uses philological studies using a single script and standard script methods. It means that the manuscript being examined is the only one, and there are no copies. Research shows that the text is a European manuscript type even though it uses Arabic and the cover is identical to the typical style of the Arabian Peninsula. Apart from that, this manuscript also provides information about jihad by containing quotations from verses from the Qur’an and hadiths of the Prophet Muhammad. However, jihad here is understood to be limited to struggle on the physical war. Therefore, the manuscript encloses several dhikrs and prayers during the war. Furthermore, this manuscript was motivated by the colonial occupation of Malay land
Influence maximization towards target users on social networks for information diffusion
Influence maximisation has been an area of active research in recent years. This study aims to extend the fundamental influence maximisation problem (IMP) with respect to a set of target users on a social network. It is important to aim at the target users to speed up the rate of information diffusion and reduce the information diffusion cost. In doing so, the MITU algorithm was formulated and compared with state of the art algorithms. Publicly available datasets were used in validating the proposed algorithm. It was found that the MITU identified all target nodes while significantly lowering the information diffusion cost function (IDCF) by up to 79%. The influence overlap problem was equally identified in the heuristic algorithm where the seed set size was reduced by an average of six times. Furthermore, the random influencer selection identifies target nodes better than the betweenness and PageRank centralities. The findings could help organisations to reach target users on social media in the shortest cycle
