Чисельна модель нагріву іонів, що плескаються, на другій циклотронній гармоніці

A numerical model calculating the distribution of radio-frequency fields and absorption of their energy by sloshing ions is presented. The model solves time-harmonic Maxwell’s equations written in terms of the electric field and accounts for fundamental and second harmonic ion cyclotron wave damping. It uses a 2D grid, Fourier series in the 3rd coordinate and is based on a non-staggered mesh not aligned along the steady magnetic field. Numerical stability of the scheme is demonstrated, and the convergence analysis is presented. Prof. Mats Leijon is acknowledged for support. Fast wave heating in a mirror during plasma build-up

    No full text
A heating method for partially ionized plasma has been described in reference [V.E. Moiseenko, Sov. J. Plasma Phys. 12, 427 (1986)]. It exploits the collisional damping of fast waves that is large owing to the high rate of charge exchange collisions. Since the time of heating is limited by the duration of neutral gas ionization, the heating needs to be strong enough to achieve a high final ion temperature. This heating method has been studied numerically in the framework of MHD-like (magneto-hydrodynamic) equations in inhomogeneous cylindrical plasma. The influences of the ratio of the mean free path of the neutral atoms to the plasma radius, the initial ion concentration, the characteristics of the interaction of the neutral atoms with the chamber wall and other parameters on the plasma heating dynamics are examined. A scenario for RF plasma heating in one central cell of the multi-mirror device GOL3 (Novosibirsk, Russia) is developed, in which the final ion temperature exceeds the ion oscillation energy in the RF field by one order of magnitude. The energy efficiency is high; only a small portion of the power is transferred by the neutral atoms to the chamber wall

Reconciling Event Structures with Modern Multiprocessors

    No full text
Weakestmo is a recently proposed memory consistency model that uses event structures to resolve the infamous "out-of-thin-air" problem and to enable efficient compilation to hardware. Nevertheless, this latter property - compilation correctness - has not yet been formally established. This paper closes this gap by establishing correctness of the intended compilation schemes from Weakestmo to a wide range of formal hardware memory models (x86, POWER, ARMv7, ARMv8) in the Coq proof assistant. Our proof is the first that establishes correctness of compilation of an event-structure-based model that forbids "out-of-thin-air" behaviors, as well as the first mechanized compilation proof of a weak memory model supporting sequentially consistent accesses to such a range of hardware platforms. Our compilation proof goes via the recent Intermediate Memory Model (IMM), which we suitably extend with sequentially consistent accesses

Four motional invariants in adiabatic equilibria

    No full text
Recently published derivations of four stationary motional invariants in adiabatic equilibria are presented. The four invariants contains a radial drift invariant, which determines the density radial profile and the diamagnetic drift, and an additional parallel invariant that determines the plasma current along the magnetic field. Thus, there are in general more than three stationary invariants for the adiabatic motion of a gyrating particle. The result is valid to first order in the gyro radius, and is applicable to geometries with adiabatic fields, including toroidal as well as open trap geometry. In axisymmetric tori, the toroidal invariant can replace the longitudinal invariant in the analysis and the radial invariant can be determined from the projected gyro center motion. The four invariants is determined for passing as well as trapped particles. For equilibria with sufficiently small banana widths, the radial invariant can to lowest order be approximated by the gyro center value of the radial Clebsch coordinate. To this lowest order, the gyro centers drift on a magnetic flux surface.Prof. Mats Leijon is acknowledged for support. The development of high impact national and regional journals in medicine and the health sciences

The international academic journal publishing landscape is complex and in continuous flux. Many Russian editors and publishers wish to bring their journals into the global mainstream and to develop internationally competitive profiles for their work. Bibliometric citation systems are one means by which the quality of journals, of articles and researchers, can be assessed, referenced and compared. Scopus and the Web of Science are two major and respected quality assurance systems for global publishing, within which many academic journals seek formal listings. These listings help develop a wider international profile for any journal. They also provide valuable data through which journals can benchmark their performance against all other journals in any subject field. In turn, this information helps to stimulate competition and quality improvement across the entire academic journal ecosystem. Scopus provides a transparent and continually evolving evaluation and feedback system for journals seeking a listing and those journals that have already been listed within Scopus. An application for a Scopus listing is a process through which a journal is evaluated by several quantitative and qualitative criteria against global benchmarks. A successful listing can sometimes require a series of strategic insights and developments by editors and publishers over several years. In this article, Dr David Rew, a practising clinician and the Subject Chair for Medicine to the Scopus Content Selection Advisory Board since 2009, distils the experience of evaluation of more than 2000 Medical and Health Sciences journals to guide as to what features and strategies give academic journals a better chance of long term success in the competitive world of global academic publishing. POPULISM IN POLITICAL DISCOURSE: DIAGNOSTIC FEATURES AND LINGUO-COGNITIVE TECHNIQUES OF FORMATION

    No full text
The article deals with the semantics of the term “populism” and its re-lexicalization via changing the meaning from neutral to negative. The author gives examples of the third-wave American populist leaders’ speeches, namely those made by Ugo Chaves, Nicolas Maduro, Evo Morales and Daniel Ortega, and reveals linguistic means of populism, as well as discursive strategies: proliferation (lexical loading) of key concepts, such as “pueblo”, “nación”, “patria” (“people”, “nation”, “motherland”), constructing discursive “I” in a pattern “I am my people”, the use of discursive strategies of polarization that helps political leaders delegitimize the opponent and construct the para-reality to legalize and symbolize self-power. The populist discourse is marked semantically by key words pueblo, nación, patria, special contextual coloring is designed with set expressions like la voz del pueblo (voice of the people), by forming occasional derivatives that break language norms, by actualizing oppositions “friend - enemy”, “acquaintance – stranger”, “people – outsider”, by applying to slogans and precedent phenomena. The participation of precedent phenomena in discursive strategies of populism is highlighted in the choice of precedent names (i.e. Simón Bolívar, Augusto César Sandino, Rubén Darío), it is directed at affiliating modern political leaders with prominent leader of the past, thus pointing to national values and providing legitemisy of the politicains in power
