The signals of f(0)(980) -> a(0)(0)(980) and a(0)(0)(980) -> f(0)(980) mixing are observed at levels of statistical significance of 7.4 sigma and 5.5 sigma, respectively. The corresponding branching fractions and mixing intensities are measured and the constraint regions on the coupling constants, g(a0K+K-) and g(f0K+K-), are estimated. The results improve the understanding of the nature of a(0)(0)(980) and f(0)(980)

    Rock magnetics of ODP Site 162-980

    A detailed record of variations in the direction and intensity of the geomagnetic field over the past 1.2 Myrs has been obtained from an ~120-m-thick sedimentary section cored at ODP Site 980 on the Feni Drift (North Atlantic). The record has high resolution due to high mean sedimentation rates (11.3 cm/kyr for the Brunhes Chron and 5.5 cm/kyr for the Matuyama Chron), paleomagnetic measurements every 1 cm along u-channel samples, and high quality isotopic age control. The Iceland Basin Event is manifest by virtual geomagnetic poles crossing the equator at ~190 ka. The base of the recovered section lies immediately below the Cobb Mountain Subchronozone that occurs within marine isotope stage 35. Normalized remanence data can be correlated to paleointensity records from ODP Sites 983 and 984 (~700 km to the NW from Site 980) and with lower resolution paleointensity data from the Pacific Ocean. Differences between the Site 980 paleointensity record and the Pacific records are attributed to variable sedimentation rates, variable quality age control, and inadequacies in the normalization procedure used to derive the paleointensity proxies

    Observation of the rare decay B+ -> K+π0π0 and measurement of the quasi-two-body contributions B+ -> K*(892)+π0, B+ -> f0(980)K+, and B+ -> χc0K+

    We report an analysis of charmless hadronic decays of charged B mesons to the final state K(+) pi(0)pi(0), using a data sample of (470.9 +/- 2.8) x 10(6) B (B) over bar events collected with the BABAR detector at the Y(4S) resonance. We observe an excess of signal events, with a significance above 10 standard deviations including systematic uncertainties, and measure the branching fraction and CP asymmetry to be B(B(+) -> K(+) pi(0)pi(0)) = (16.2 +/- 1.2 +/- 1.5) x 10(-6) and A(CP)(B(+) -> K(+) pi(0)pi(0)) = -0.06 +/- 0.06 +/- 0.04, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. Additionally, we study the contributions of the B(+) -> K*(892)(+) pi(0), B(+) -> f(0)(980)K(+), and B(+) -> chi(c0)K(+) quasi-two-body decays. We report the world's best measurements of the branching fraction and CP asymmetry of the B(+) -> K(+) pi(0)pi(0) and B(+) -> K(+)(892)(+) pi(0) channels

    Study of a00(980)-f0(980) mixing

    Using samples of 2.25×108 J/ψ events and 1.06×108 ψ ′ events collected with the BES III detector, we study the f 0(980)→a00(980) and a00(980)→f 0(980) transitions in the processes J/ψ→φf 0(980) →φa00(980) and χ c1→π0a00(980)→π0f 0(980), respectively. Evidence for f 0(980)→a00(980) is found with a significance of 3.4σ, while in the case of a00(980)→f 0(980) transition, the significance is 1.9σ. Measurements and upper limits of both branching ratios and mixing intensities are determined. © 2011 American Physical Society.published_or_final_versio

    Measurement of the CP violating phase φs in Bs0→J/f0(980)

    Measurement of mixing-induced CP violation in decays is of prime importance in probing new physics. So far only the channel has been used. Here we report on a measurement using an LHCb data sample of 0.41 fb−1, in the CP odd eigenstate J/ψf0(980), where f0(980)→π+π−. A time-dependent fit of the data with the lifetime and the difference in widths of the heavy and light eigenstates constrained to the values obtained from yields a value of the CP violating phase of −0.44±0.44±0.02 rad, consistent with the Standard Model expectation

    Scalar mesons and tetraquarks by means of lattice QCD

    We study the light scalar mesons a_0(980) and kappa using N_f = 2+1+1 flavor lattice QCD. In order to probe the internal structure of these scalar mesons, and in particular to identify, whether a sizeable tetraquark component is present, we use a large set of operators, including diquark-antidiquark, mesonic molecule and two-meson operators. The inclusion of disconnected diagrams, which are technically rather challenging, but which would allow us to extend our work to e.g. the f_0(980) meson, is introduced and discussed
