Gyrofluid simulations of collisionless reconnection in the presence of diamagnetic effects
Get PDFInternational audienceThe effects of the ion Larmor radius on magnetic reconnection are investigated by means of numerical simulations, with a Hamiltonian gyrofluid model. In the linear regime, it is found that ion diamagnetic effects decrease the growth rate of the dominant mode. Increasing ion temperature tends to make the magnetic islands propagate in the ion diamagnetic drift direction. In the nonlinear regime, diamagnetic effects reduce the final width of the island. Unlike the electron density, the guiding center density does not tend to distribute along separatrices and at high ion temperature, the electrostatic potential exhibits the superposition of a small scale structure, related to the electron density, and a large scale structure, related to the ion guiding-center density

No full textABSTRACT: C. Smith – E. Tassi Scandone, Roman augural law and the religio-juridical concept of the walls. Roman jurists defined walls and gates as res sanctae and classified them as amongst the res divini iuris. This category constitutes a third group distinct from res sacrae, consecrated to the gods and res religiosae which were the province fo the gods of the underworld. The foundation of this classification, which goes back to an early period, was obscure to classical jurisprudence, as can be seen from Gaius’ definition: Sanctae quoque res, velut muri et portae, quodam modo divini iuris sunt (Gai. 2.8). The interdisciplinary approach which is proposed here is intended to consider the nature of sanctitas, and the relationship between phenomenological, legal and historiographical approaches to the sacredness of the walls and gates of Rome, and to how these may have influenced each other, and changed over time

No full textThe dielectric behaviour of binary mixtures of N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) + 1,2-dichloroethane (DCE) has been studied at 19 temperatures in the -10 less than or equal to t/C-0 less than or equal to +80 range, employing the pure species and 9 mixtures of theirs covering the whole composition range (0 less than or equal to X(i) less than or equal to 1). Some fitting procedures have been applied in order to check the suitability of empirical relations of the type epsilon = epsilon(T), epsilon = epsilon(X(i)) and epsilon = epsilon(T, X(i)). Furthermore, the excess function (epsilon(E)) has been evaluated in order to investigate the possibility of existence of complex moieties. The DMF . DCE adduct appears to be the only stable heteroassociated species
