Wide field imaging of solar system objects with an 8192 x 8192 CCD mosaic
As part of this program, we successfully completed the construction of the world's largest CCD camera, an 8192 x 8192 CCD mosaic. The system employs 8 2K x 4K 3-edge buttable CCDs arranged in a 2 x 4 chip mosaic. The focal plane has small gaps (less than 1 mm) between mosaic elements and measures over 120 mm x 120 mm. The initial set of frontside illuminated CCDs were developed with Loral-Fairchild in a custom foundry run. The initial lots yielded of order 20 to 25 functional devices, of which we selected the best eight for inclusion for the camera. We have designed a custom 3-edge-buttable package that ensures the CCD dies are mounted flat to plus or minus 10 microns over the entire area of the mosaic. The mosaic camera system consists of eight separate readout signal chains controlled by two independent DSP microcontrollers. These are in turn interfaced to a Sun Sparc-10 workstation through two high speed fiber optic interfaces. The system saw first-light on the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope on Mauna Kea in March 1995. First-light on the University of Hawaii 2.2-M Telescope on Mauna Kea was in July 1995. Both runs were quite successful. We discuss the partition function of the SO (8192 ) bosonic string at arbitrary genus. As in the genus-one case, diagrams defined
in terms of involutions acting in the same way on the homology basis are weighted by identical multiplicity factors. This property
emerges as the basic feature of the SO (8192 ) theory. It corresponds to the picture of this model as a parameter-space orbifold of
the closed bosonic string. By factorization we recover amplitudes in the degenerate limit
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Historical reconstruction of education in author schools of Ukraine
The purpose of the study is to reproduce the historical reconstruction of the educational process in the author schools of Ukraine during the eighteenth – early twenty-first centuries to determine their role in the development of the national education system. The article considers the author secondary educational establishments that play a special part at the present stage of development of a new Ukrainian school, as their creators and pedagogical teams seek and indicate the ways of innovative educational development, define new goals, develop the content of education, substantiate and implement alternative educational technologies. The author school is presented as an experimental educational institution, which activity is based on a pedagogical concept developed by a single teacher or author team. It is noted that the author school as a unique educational system has gone a long way in its historical development. The first author school was named “school without walls” headed by H. Skovoroda, whose main goal was to teach people the science of happy life. The peculiarities of the educational process in the most famous author schools in Ukraine of the twentieth century have been analyzed. 8192 bit Rivest-Shamir-Adleman data encryption hardware accelerator
Rivest-Shamir-Adelman (RSA) algorithm is one of the state-of-art publickey cryptography that is efficient in terms of implementation because it uses the same general equation for encryption and decryption, that is, modular exponentiation equation. The security reliability of RSA algorithm is based on the difficulty of factoring a large number. The larger the RSA key size, the higher the security level that can be achieved. However, at the same time, the complexity of the computation increases, which results in more computation cycles. Software implementation of RSA with large key size is too slow and less effective for large amount of data encryption or decryption. Hence, the purpose of this project is to implement a hardware-based RSA coprocessor to handle RSA encryption and decryption effectively. This project implements a RSA coprocessor using radix-2 Montgomery modular multiplication that described at bit-level. This implementation uses carry-saved adders to achieve parallel processing in hardware. The hardware implementation of the RSA coprocessor is done using Verilog synthesizable Register-transfer Level (RTL) code to allow scalability. Simulation results are obtained to validate the functionality of the design. The design is synthesized using Altera Quartus software tool to evaluate the performance of the implementation. The designs are synthesized on device Stratix V 5SEEBF45I4 for key-size of 128-bit, 1024-bit and 8192-bit. The data throughput of the 8192-bit design can reach up to 3.387 kbps with LE utilization of 30% on the device used. Although the performance of the design is not the highest among the related works, but this design provides a proven working prototype for 8192-bit RSA coprocessor using Bit-level Montgomery Modular Multiplication for hardware parallel processing
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dual Cascades in Two-dimensional Compressible Turbulence
We report on results from a set of numerical simulations of isothermal compressible turbulence forced at an intermediate scale with grid resolutions up to 8192^2. At a moderate pumping rate, the total energy of a typical frictionless system, subject to periodic boundary conditions, exhibits linear growth characteristic of an inverse cascade followed---as in the incompressible case---by condensation. The energy capacity of the compressible condensate, however, is limited by shock dissipation. Effects of compressibility are discussed in both shaping the inverse energy cascade at moderate Mach numbers and mediating the energy condensate growth that involves the formation of strong shocks, connecting centers of large vortices and short-circuiting the energy cycle. In the saturated regime, the total energy exhibits strong irregular oscillations caused by metastability of the compressible condensate
