Factors Influencing The Purchase Intention in Online Organic Fruit and Vegetable Stores
The increasing number of organic agricultural production and public awareness toward healthy living provide the opportunities in trading for the products itself. Meanwhile, the development of information technology produces innovation such as electronic commerce (e-commerce), and in agribusiness, it is known as e-agribusiness. E-agribusiness allows organic groceries trade activities to be conducted online through a website. However, that is a new and rare activity in Indonesia, therefore the management of company needs to develop the strategy to enhance the customers and survive in the industry. The purpose of this study is to analyze the factors influencing organic fruit and vegetable purchase intention through a website based on technology perspective and consumer behavior. WebQual and Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) were used in this study. This study was conducted on website of Sayur Box, one of e-agribusiness in Indonesia. Face-to-face survey technique was used to collect the data from 113 respondents. PLS-SEM was used for data analysis. The result shows that online purchase intention is affected by attitude and perceived behavioral control. All of WebQual’s instruments that used in this study affect user satisfaction toward the website except for the usefulness variable. User satisfaction toward the website has an indirect effect on online purchase intention through attitude variable. Keywords: e-agribusiness, online purchase intention, structural equation modeling, theory of planned behavior, website qualit
Comparing the Effectiveness of Information Framing Strategy on Utilitarian and Hedonic Food Product Packaging
The increasing adoption of framing strategy among food marketers and advertisers generates inquiries about the effectiveness of the strategy. Product messages with different framing strategy are expected to stimulate different consumer responses. This research investigates the difference of consumer attitude and purchase intention towards the framed product when consumers are exposed to food labels with different types of food product (hedonic vs utilitarian) using different framing strategy (positive vs negative). A lab experimental design was prepared involving 160 participants. Chocolate was examined to represent hedonic product while packaged milk was used as utilitarian product. Data were analyzed using ANOVA and multiple linear regression. Findings suggested that the effectiveness of framing strategy was moderated by product type. Positive framing was found to be more effective for hedonic food products, while for utilitarian food product, it was more favorable to adopt negative framing
The Impact of Using Combine Harvester Technology on Social Economic Conditions of Swamp Rice Farmers and Harvest Workers in South Sumatera
The objectives of this research were: (1) to analyze the use of labor allocation, productivity and income of swamp rice farmers of users and non-users of combine harvester technology; (2) to explore the impact of combine harvester technology and other factors on rice farm income; and (3) to analyze the impacts of using combine harvester technology on the socio-economic condition of farmers and harvest workers. From the result of the research, it can be seen that the amount of labor allocation in swamp rice farming conducted by farmer users of combine harvester is smaller than that of the non-users, that is 57,60 HOK and 117,63 HOK respectively. The productivity of swamp rice farming on the users is 4.543.56 kg per hectare per year in the form of dry grains whereas that of the non-users only reached 4,423,33 kg per hectare per year. Income of swamp rice farming using combine harvester is larger if compared with that of the non users that is equal to Rp14,942,737.16 per hectare per year for the users and Rp9,954,095.76 per hectare per year for the non-users. From the result of regression analysis, it can be seen that dummy variables of combine harvester technology, experience of farming, productivity, fertilizer cost, pesticide cost and labor cost have significant impacts on rice farmer income. Combine Harvester technology has both positive and negative impacts on social, economic and technical conditions in swamp rice farming for the farmers and worker harvesters. Keywords: combine harvester, social, economy, rice, swam
The Sustainability of Three Indonesian Palm Oil Business Entities
The demand of palm oil products from export destination countries is still recorded to have a high growth. The prospect of world vegetable oil consumption need especially for palm oil that keeps rising gives an opportunity for Indonesia to increase its palm oil production. This research was conducted to observe how far oil palm plantation companies have conducted ISPO through Business Sustainability Typology perspective. This research made use of descriptive quantitative method. The data processing and analysis technique used in this research was descriptive quantitative analysis through Analytical Network Process (ANP) approach by using Super Decisions 2.2 software. Based on the processing result, the three companies were close to Sustainability version 3.0 but have not been perfect. Based on the average calculation of the three companies, the first priority composition from these companies is profit aspect consisting of permit and management system, implementations of oil palm processing guidelines and cultivation guidelines. In addition, it is the people aspect comprising responsibility to workers, community development, and social and community responsibility, and lastly the planet aspect of environmental management and monitoring. Managerial implications include developing and generating renewable energy by processing palm liquid waste (POME) to produce biogas as energy. They also include encouraging and supporting communities in various areas of development and utilization with a sustainable economy and holding a pollution tax that is included as a licensing fee, establishing standards for processing waste and subsidies related to business developmentKeywords: business sustainability typology, palm oil, ANP, sustainability, oil palm plantation companie
Asessing Biosecurity Management Practice Along Layer Chicken Chain in Bogor And Sukabumi
Biosecurity is one of the government\u27s recommended risk management to limit the exposure of disease agents, but the implementation of biosecurity in supply chain is reportedly still not optimal. This study aims to identify supply chain of layers especially live chicken chain in Bogor and Sukabumi and to analyze the level of application of biosecurity in the chicken chain. Survey method with checklist questionnaire was used to obtain the required data. The results show that the chicken chain of layer involves the farmers and selllers of layers including collectors, poultry market sellers, and butchers, and end consumers. Culled layers are distributed in the form of live birds that can increase the risk of disease due to the accommodation time and market system which are mostly not first in first out (FIFO). The application of layer farmer biosecurity is at a moderate level (score 33.4 in Bogor and 40 in Sukabumi from a maximum score of 60). In the sellers of layers, the application of biosecurity is at a low level (score 21.9 in Bogor and 25 in Sukabumi from a maximum score of 69). Differences in biosecurity practices of farmers in Bogor and Sukabumi areas lie in the protection of wild birds. The differences in the biosecurity practices of layer bird sellers in the areas of Bogor and Sukabumi lie in the action against new poultry and action on transportation equipment. Biosecurity scores that have not been optimal indicate that the implementation of biosecurity still needs to be improved at each point of the chicken chain. Increasing biosecurity in each chicken chain point will help reduce the risk of exposure to AI viruses in layer birds through the chicken chain so that losses can be minimized. Keywords: supply chain, biosecurity, disease, poultry, unggas hidu
Market Structure, Conduct and Performance of Scad (Decapterus russeli) in Kota Ambon
This research is aimed to analyze the marketing system of Scad (Decapterus russeli) by analyzing the market structure, behavior, and performance. It was conducted in traditional markets: Mardika and Transit Passo, Ambon from September to December 2014. The method used was survey for 40 of 45 fish traders in these markets, selected in simple random sampling. The analyses used included: 1). Integration of vertical market, 2). Elasticity of price transmission, and 3). Pricing efficiency. The results show: (1) market structure of scad in Ambon is not integrated and leads to oligopoly; (2) change of 1% at the consumers’ price level leads to less than 1 % of price change in the fishermen’s price level, indicating that scad marketing system is inefficient; and (3) the marketing system of scad in channel 3 is inefficient. The smallest share (89%) was also showed in this channel. Scad market structure was not perfectly integrated for the oligopoly practice by traders. Therefore, dependence of fishermen on traders should be reduced i.e. by giving assistance such as loans with low interest rates especially in no fish season. Communication network should also be expanded so that market information can be transmitted perfectly to all marketing agencies in Ambon. The government should control the price fluctuations by setting the minimum price (floor price) and maximum price (ceiling price) in order to create price stability. Keywords: conduct market, oligopoly market, performance market, scad structure, fish trader
The Sustainability of Indonesia Pakistan Palm Oil Supply Chain
With high consumption and low production rates, Pakistan appears as one of the main palm oil importers in the world. Among all vegetable oils, palm oil price appears to be the lowest, thus dominating the vegetable oil import market. Indonesia and Malaysia are the two main exporters, in which Pakistan alternately imports palm oil. Within such conditions, this study aims to analyze the sustainability of Indonesia Pakistan supply chain by estimating (i) the influencing factors of Pakistan palm oil import volume from Indonesia, (ii) the price co-integration in the Indonesian-Pakistan palm oil supply chain, and (iii) the adjustments of the short run dynamics towards the long run equilibrium. Using monthly data from 2010 to 2016, the sustainability was analyzed with Auto Regressive Distributed Lag model and Vector Error Correction Model. The results show Pakistan palm oil import volume is significantly influenced by the price of Pakistan’s palm oil import, trade balance and soybean oil price. The lower the palm oil import price, the higher the volume palm oil imported to Pakistan. The import price is co-integrated with all prices along the Indonesia Pakistan supply chain but no error correction towards long run equilibrium, which is partly reflecting impact of Pakistan Government interventions in palm oil trade. Based on these results, it can be concluded that price is the most influencing factor of the Pakistan palm oil import, thus Indonesia Pakistan supply chain could be sustained if the Indonesian palm oil selling price remains competitive. Therefore, Indonesian producers need to increase their productivity and reduce their production costs in all stages of the supply chain, including those among the oil palm smallholders. Keywords: palm oil, supply chain, autoregressive distributed lag, error correctio
Risk Mitigation for Rice Production Through Agricultural Insurance: Farmer’s Perspectives
Rice farming is susceptible to failure due to several risks including natural disasters of flood and drought as well as pest and disease attacks. Risk mitigation such as agricultural insurance is required to cope with the risks. This study aims to portray rice production risks to failure and farmer’s perception on the implementation of agricultural insurance in Bali province. Three regencies were selected purposively based on the area insured. A survey was conducted to 180 respondents who paid for the agricultural insurance (AUTP). Data were analyzed using descriptive qualitative analysis and chi-square test. Results of the research show that most rice farming risks to failure in Bali were blast and rat attacks. In terms of agricultural insurance implementation, all farmers accept the program as a mitigation risk to bridge rice farming failure. However, most farmers (85 %) asked for fully support of premium subsidy from the government while the rest agreed to pay for a-20 % of the premium. The result from the Chi-square test shows insignificant, implying that the distribution of farmers’ perception towards full subsidy of agricultural insurance is indifferent across locations. Implication of the study noted that the government and insurer need to socialize the agricultural insurance program more intensively covering premium payment, coverage and claiming. Keywords: production risk, agricultural insurance, farmer’s perception, AUTP, Chi-squar
Adaptation Behavior of Mango Farmers to Climate Change
The continuing climate change phenomenon causes disruption to agricultural sector including seasonal fruits such as mangoes. To anticipate the negative effects of climate change, the farmers adapt themselves in order to maintain their mango farming. The dynamics of mango farmers related to the adaptation of agribusiness strategy due to climate change occur at the level of production/cultivation and marketing. The objectives of this study are to: (1) Identify the factors that influence the behavior of mango farmers\u27 adaptation as an effort to minimize the risks due to climate change; (2) Describe the adaptation behavior of mango farmers based on interactions among the factors that influence the adaptation by using causal loop diagrams. The results showed that the adaptation behavior of mango farmers was constructed on 37 variables from 8 categories, namely, climate change, production, marketing, income, financing, productivity, information adoption, and innovation. Adaptation behavior of mango farmers to climate change arises not only as the farmers’ effort to maintain the mango farming they run but also to maintain their lives. The use of growth regulator and pesticides are shortcuts taken by farmers to increase production without realizing the side effects that can arise and accumulate in the long term. The income variable is the leverage point of the behavior pattern that is reflected in the causal loop diagram. Small changes in income will cause major changes in the overall system described. Keywords: climate change, mango farmer, system thinking, causal loop diagram, system archetype
Customer Discovery of Biofertilizer Business (A Lesson From PT PHN Experience)
Demand for agricultural products in Indonesia increases in response to Indonesia\u27s high population growth. With more limited agricultural land, agricultural productivity can be increased by the addition of fertilizer. Biofertilizer is currently popular fertilizer and can become a solution to increase productivity of agricultural products in limited land. PT PHN is a new company established in 2015 and produces biofertilizer under the brand XYZ . This research was conducted to analyze consumer perception of biofertilizer and XYZ fertilizer. The company tries to understand customer’s problems and provides solutions with customer development model (CDM) method. Understanding and solution to the problem were then used as revision of the company\u27s business model with business model canvas (BMC) approach. Primary and secondary data were used in this research. Primary data were obtained by observation and interview using several respondents. Secondary data were obtained from PT PHN staffs, BPS, and other sources related to this research. The results show that consumers do not have enough understanding about biofertilizer. XYZ fertilizer improves agricultural productivity but has some obstacles in its use. The business model of PT PHN is updated with some additions and subtractions by considering the CDM results. Keywords: BMC, business model, CDM, strategy, customer discover
