Multi Stakeholder Engagement in Indonesia Sustainable Palm Oil Governance
Natural resource management generally involves parties with conflicting interests and roles. The emergence of a negative issue on palm oil development in Indonesia heralded by NGOs and vegetable oil competitor countries, for some groups, is considered merely a trade war. The rapid development of Indonesia\u27s oil palm has made this commodity a source of global vegetable oil as well as risen a controversy over its sustainability aspects covering environmental, socio-economic and health issues. The significant increase of palm oil research led to the need to enrich the study\u27s discussion on the sustainability aspect and involved the participation of the related stakeholders. This study is an early stage of a research based on the environmental communication theory to identify the problems and analyze the stakeholders involved in palm oil governance in Indonesia by using stakeholder analysis tools. The methods of data collection in this study included literature review, text analysis, in-depth interviews as well as direct observations. The study finding shows that the Ministry of Agriculture as the main actor in palm oil governance in Indonesia is required to share its authority. This indicates that palm oil sustainability issue is not the responsibility of a particular ministry but has become a national issue that requires the participation and collaboration of all relevant stakeholders
Global Value Chain of Indonesian Pulp and Paper Industry
Global Value Chain (GVC) has been a global phenomenon since 1980s when export values no longer represented the actual benefit of a country’ economic measure. Furthermore, GVC measurement applying input-output table approach has quite rapidly developed. Given the fact that the role of Indonesian pulp and paper industry is increasingly important in the country’s economy, this study aimed at measuring the pulp and paper industry GVC in 1995 and 2011 as well as its position and participation in the global GVC using Inter-Country Input-Output (ICIO). The results show that GVC of Indonesia\u27s pulp and paper industry is generally in the form of value-added exports in intermediate absorption by direct importers and indirect final exports and also in the form of foreign value-added return in foreign countries in intermediate exports and also value-added exports in intermediate goods exports to the third countries. GVC Indonesia is also still dominated by domestic value-added compared to foreign value-added and remains in a “downstream” position and has decreased its GVC participation globally. In the future, it is important to strengthen GVC participation by maintaining greater ownership of domestic value- added in Indonesia\u27s pulp and paper industry. Keywords: global value chain, pulp and paper, Intercountry input-output, GVC position and participatio
Dynamic Modelling System of Indonesia’s Crude Palm Oil Sustainable Supply Chain Management
The agricultural sector has an important role in economic activity in Indonesia. It is reflected from its contribution to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of approximately 13.46 percent in 2016 and its ability to absorb 31.86 percent of Indonesian workforce in February 2017. The objectives of this study are to simulate the scenarios of increasing sustainable production in the model of sustainable supply chain management of Crude Palm Oil (CPO) and to formulate policy alternatives for the development of sustainable supply chain management of Indonesian CPO. Data used in this research were primary data and secondary data. The analyzer used in this research was dynamic system model by simulating the replanting policy, moratorium, and environmentally friendly cultivation technique. The result of this research shows that the dynamic system model of sustainable supply chain management CPO Indonesia built is valid, both through structure test and performance model test. Scenario 4 provides the greatest PV of all scenarios of 10.99% larger than the baseline. The best policy alternative is to implement replanting and sustainable agriculture practices with zero burning on the new land clearing process to give better net benefits value
Performance Improvement Strategy of Supply Chain Management in SEI Galuh Palm Oil Mill, PT Perkebunan Nusantara V
Palm oil becomes Indonesia\u27s leading agricultural commodity which is inseparable from competition with CPO producers from other countries. PT Perkebunan Nusantara V (PTPN-V) is a state-owned company engaged in palm oil plantation and processing palm oil fresh fruit into crude palm oil (CPO) and palm kernel (palm kernel). One of the 12 palm oil processing units of PTPN-V is the Sei Galuh Palm Oil Mill (PKS SGH), in the past 5 years the plant has the lowest performance compared to 12 other factories. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to analyze the supply chain of PKS SGH and performance improvement strategy of supply chain management at the PKS SGH through SCOR-AHP approach. The result shows that supply chain strategy in this research is to run lean supply chain strategy because the output is a functional product. So the strategy applied was should low cost strategy (efficient). The result of performance measurements obtained matrix order fulfillment, quality conformity, processing cycle time, and employee costs is “good”. Then, matrix order fulfillment time, flexibility of capacity increase and cash to cash cycle is “average”; while matrix supply flexibility and cost of processing were obtained “poor” results. Keywords: supply chain, SCOR, AHP, crude palm oil (CPO), PTPN-
Sustainability Strategies of Indonesian Mega-Dairy Farm Business: A Case of Greenfields Indonesia
The increase of milk import in Indonesia can be anticipated through the development of dairy farms based on mega-farm. Indonesia has already got dairy farms that adopt the mega-farm, one of which is the Greenfields Indonesia (GFI). GFI has become an export-oriented company, so GFI needs to pay attention to its sustainability on their business processes. This study was conducted at Dairy farm of Greenfields Indonesia. The purpose of this study was to analyze the business sustainability factors and to evaluate the factors of GFI dairy farming business based on the success factor of sustainability relation structure. The combination of delphi fuzzy and DEMATEL (Decision-Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory) was used for data processing. The research results showed that the standardization of the company\u27s management system was the first priority based on the relation structure. The priority could affect the resilience of farm models that depended on manure management impact and create animal care through the availability of management of feed and drinking water. Keywords: dairy farming, sustainable business development, fuzzy delphi method, dematel, management syste
The Pricing System of Red Onion and Red Chili Commodities
The prices of red chili and red onion commodities tend to fluctuate and have high margin rates, causing inefficiency of prices. On the other hand, the demand for red chili and red onion will increase as the number of population increases. This study aimed to analyze the factors and behaviors that can affect the pricing system on red onion and red chili in East Jakarta by using the Vector Error Correction Model and Game Theory. The results showed that the producer and wholesale prices of red onion and red chili commodities contribute to the price discovery at the consumer level. Maximum profit is achieved by retail merchants when they adopt prices in collusion as a dominant strategy. Keywords: red onion, red chili, game theory, price, VEC
Spatial Market Integration of Shallot in Indonesia
Shallot is a horticultural commodity which has high economic and strategic values. Unbalanced supply and demand of shallot each province in Indonesia cause trade flows from surplus areas to deficit areas and indicate there is a market integration. This research aimed to analyze spatial market integration of shallot at the producer level in Indonesia. Methods of this research used included Johansen Co-integration, Granger Causality, and Error Correction Model. Results of this research exhibit that there is no complete spatial market integration among shallot producer markets. There are approximately 40 co-integrated pairs of producer markets (44.944%), and the rest of 49 (55.056%) pairs of producer markets are not co-integrated. Based on the causality test, the producer markets such as Central Java, East Java, and West Nusa Tenggara are price-leading markets. Approximately 74 pairs (83,146%) of producer markets are integrated into the short run. Government policy that can be implemented to control price fluctuations at producer level is fairly floor price policy specifically made for three price-leading markets. To improve spatial market integration of shallot in Indonesia, the government needs to make policies such as upgrading quality of physical infrastructure (length of paved roads) and educating human capital (producers) to access market information technology. Keywords: producer market, shallot, spatial market integration, Johansen Co-integration, Granger Causalit
