As an important sector in the Indonesian economy, the low capital problems in agriculture should be solved. Crowdfunding is one of the solutions gaining modal from society. This agricultural investment could be an attractive personal asset, too. But, no information yet about the complete characteristics of agricultural projects that fetching the people\u27s participation to invest. Hence, the aim of this research is to find out the factors that influence people\u27s participation in agricultural business investment with crowdfunding schemes. The quantitative data collected from 468 agricultural projects held by agricultural business startup PT. XYZ was analyzed. The six characteristics of the project are role as independents factors. They were project types (loans and profit sharing), project fields (agriculture, livestock, and fisheries), project risk (low, moderate, and high), project duration, the amount of capital needed and profit assumption. All the factors have been analyzed by a multiple regression model to estimate the number of investors. The results showed that the number of crowdfunding agriculture-based projects investor can be modeled by dummy regression. The longer project duration will decrease the number of investors by 0.577 people. The higher risk of the project will lower the number of investors. Based on the projects field, the most interesting projects are the livestock project, followed by agriculture and the last is the fisheries project. Overall, the project period, project risk and project field are the factors that influence people\u27s participation in agricultural business investment with crowdfunding schemes. In the future, crowdfunding livestock projects with a short implementation period (around 3 months), and low risk can be sought so that more people participate in becoming investors. Get PDF
he agriculture, forestry, and fisheries sectors have a share of 22.05% with 4.21% growth in North Sulawesi. The fisheries sub-sector dominates by 30%. The disbursement of banking institutions\u27 credit for the sector increased by 35% in 2015-2017 but absorbs only 7% of total loans disbursed. The reluctance of formal financial institutions to provide credit to improve small fisheries has increased in non-formal financing. This study identifies factors influencing financing sources choice, comparison of bank and non-bank financing sources, and recommend adaptive financing patterns for small fisheries. Based on descriptive qualitative analysis of in-depth interviews with 32 respondents from 85 Pajeko fishers (mini purse seine) in the Bitung Oceanic Fishing Port (PPS), concluded that 97% of Pajeko fishers in Bitung chose non-bank to finance their operation with determinant factors of financial source: (i) easiness administration (88%), (ii) payment flexibility (78%), and (iii) collateral (69%). The result of comparison simulation shows that boat owner financing with profit sharing for three (boat, boat owner, crews) is the most profitable for the boat owner, while bank loan financing with profit sharing for two (boat owner, crews) is the most profitable for crews. Accordingly, an adaptive financing strategy development is recommended for banking institutions based on influencing factors of fisher’s choices and Pajeko fisher’s characteristics-based approach. Get PDF
The participation of young people in agriculture is essential for addressing issues of food security, youth unemployment, ageing farmers, and the digital revolution in the agriculture and food sectors. Various programs have been conducted by the Government of Indonesia (including One Million Millennial Farmers Movement Program), by the private sector, and by universities to raise the interest of students and increase the number of young farmers in the agricultural and food industry. These programs are a response to the continuing decline in the number of Indonesian farm households and the need to attract younger entrants into the industry. This study analyses the factors that influence the intention of agricultural students to become agripreneurs using a modified theory of planned behaviour (TPB) approach. Data obtained from a survey of 204 agricultural students at IPB University using a voluntary sampling method and analysed using partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS SEM). The results showed that individual characteristics, attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavioural control of agricultural students had a significant effect on the intention to become an agripreneur. The study also showed that family background did not significantly influence the intention of agricultural university students to become an agripreneur. The findings contribute to the literature by providing a better understanding of the role that agriculture education and training plays in increasing students’ intention to work in agriculture.
