This study examines the impact of El Nino and La Nina on cabbage and shallot prices by applying the spatial correlation analysis method with 34 provinces from 2010 to 2020 to classify affected areas. The next method is a spatial panel with the main variables: rainfall as an indicator of El Nino and La Nina, commodity prices, spatial effects, and other supporting variables such as income, productivity, wages, and COVID-19 dummy. To get the output model, it is necessary to analyze the selection of the best model between the Structural Equation Model and the Spatial Autoregressive. The results of the study provide findings: (1) there are 16 provinces affected by El Nino and La Nina in Indonesia; (2) the best spatial panel model used is Spatial Autoregressive with the resulting La Nina has a large effect on increasing of cabbage and shallots prices because excess soil water content will cause crops and bulbs to rot easily. The spatial aspect has a significant influence, meaning that the price of cabbage and shallots in one area will affect the prices of the two commodities in other areas through distribution patterns. Policy implications of the impact of El Nino and La Nina in this study are classified into managerial, mitigation, and adaptation strategies including the policy of the Regional Inflation Control Team in the form of inter-regional cooperation. The fluctuation of rice production in Indonesia over the last 5 years shows a downward trend due to a decrease in land area and increase risks. A government\u27s effort to overcome the risks of rice farming is to establish rice farming insurance (AUTP). This research aims to analyze the factors that influence farmers\u27 decisions to join rice farming insurance (AUTP) and how the impact of rice farming insurance on farming income in Indonesia. The data used was secondary data from the survey results from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) in 2018. The number of samples was 470 farmers, consisting of 122 farmers who joined rice farming insurance and 358 farmers who did not take rice farming insurance. Data were analyzed using logistic regression and propensity score matching (PSM) methods. The results show that the variables of education level, participation in socialization, perceptions of decreased production, and production significantly influenced farmers\u27 decisions to join rice farming insurance. The impact of insurance on farm income shows that the average farm income of farmers who follow rice farming insurance is higher than farmers who did not join rice farming insurance. Therefore, the government continued to encourage the implementation of the rice farming insurance program to increase the level of farmer participation and sustainability of the AUTP program. The Effectiveness of Fabric Safeguards in Protecting and Improving the Indonesian Textile Industry Competitiveness

    Get PDF
This study investigates the effectiveness of fabric safeguards set by the Indonesian government on protecting and improving the competitiveness of the textile industry in the domestic and global markets. Data on exports and imports of 107 HS codes of fabrics subject to additional import duties in 2011-2020 are used to measure Indonesia\u27s competitiveness compared with six major exporting countries. The Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA) and the Trade Specialization Index (TSI) interpret the Indonesian fabric competitiveness and its competitors. Independent variables of this research are Safeguard Measure Import Duty (BMTP), Most Favoured Nation (MFN) rates, period of investigation, exchange rate, and inflation. The results show that the safeguard, MFN, and period of investigation significantly affect the decline in fabric imports, but other variables have no significant effect. The regime effectively protects Indonesia\u27s textile industry, which is marked by a decrease in the value and volume of imports during the validity period. The RCA indicates that Indonesia does not have a comparative advantage, and according to the TSI, Indonesia is an importing country. BMTP cannot change Indonesia\u27s position as a net exporter and improve its competitiveness. This study implies that it is necessary to increase investment in more efficient production machines with high productivity, optimize the supply chain, reduce production and enterprise costs, and restructure business models; thus, their competitiveness increases in domestic and foreign markets.
