ANALISIS MAKNA DALAM GEGURITAN IKI GURITE SEPI KARYA SURTIKANTI (SUATU KAJIAN SEMIOTIKA RIFFATERRE)
Get PDFThis study aims to describe a sign and implied meaning in Surtikanti’s Geguritan Iki Gurite Sepi poetry. The approach used in this study is a semiotic approach based on Michael Riffaterre's model. Based on Riffaterre's semiotic approach, the data in this study were analyzed by: 1) Heuristic reading; 2) Hermeneutic Reading; 3) Indirectness of expression; 4) Matrix, model, and variant of poetry; 5) Hypogram. The method used is descriptive qualitative which produces descriptive qualitative data in the form of words, phrases, and sentences contained in poetry. The results of this study indicate that the semiotics used in the study of Javanese poetry or geguritan entitled Geguritan iki, gurite sepi by Surtikanti's has markers and signifiers in it

Get PDFThis research aims to elaborate the meaning of message contained in lyrics of song entitled Man Anā by al-Imam al-Habib Umar Muhdhor bin Abdurrahman Assegaf based on semiotic analysis by Michael Riffaterre. This research is descriptive qualitative research. To collect data, researchers use reading and noting technique. Then to analyze data, researchers use Miles and Huberman model. The results of this research reveal that the lyrics of song entitled Man Anā in heuristic reading have scattered meanings and unified ideas. In hermeneutic reading, the potential hypogram produces the meaning of "I" expressing love and respect for "you" figure. The model in lyrics of this song is sentence man anā man anā laulākum and kaifa mā ḥubbukum kaifa mā ahwākum. This model produces a poetry matrix, which is about the position of teacher in front of students. The actual hypogram which became the background for the formation of this matrix is the words of Sayyidina Ali bin Abi Talib r.a. that there are six things that become provisions for a student to gain knowledge in learning, one of which is teacher guidance. So it is appropriate for a student to give great love and respect to his teacher

Get PDFThis article focuses on the formulaic stucture in a popular children’s literature entitled “Through the Looking Glass” by Lewis Carroll. This is aimed to analyze the formulaic stucture of the novel and the elements that caused the novel to become a popular children’s literature in Victorian era, which is undoubtedly related to the Victorian values in Britain.Formula theory by John G. Cawelti is used to analyze the novel. The story of the novel is about a little girl named Alice who wants to be the queen when she is stranded in another world called Looking Glass after leaning into a mirror in her painting room. Result of this research shows that Lewis Carroll’s “Through the Looking Glass” is written using adventure typologyshown through a hero with a goal to reach. The novel also uses fantasy and Victorian era setting to support the suspense.Furthermore, what made the story popular in the era is the need of escape provided by the novel for Victorian children through Alice’s adventure

The data in this study were taken from quotations from character dialogues in the Sandal Jepit drama script. The method used is descriptive qualitative. The results show that (1) characterization of the characters is clearly described by the author that Joko, Peggy, and Lala are the main characters in this drama script, (2) the character of the Mascot character is a dynamic character and brings changes to the story

This study aims to describe Ahlusunah Waljamaah concept and other theology concepts. After catalog study was carried out in Indonesia, it can be implied that there is one manuscript coded Ml. 719 saved in Perpustakaan Nasional Jakarta. The approach used in this research is textual-formal. The data was collected with library technique. The technique to analyse these data is content analysis dan comparative analysis. Ahlusunah Waljamaah concept on Tuhfah ar-Raaghibin compromises two extreme concepts, those are between Jabbariyah and Qadariyah, between Rafidliyah and Kharijiyah, and between Jahmiyyah and Murji’ah. Rafidliyah believes in Ali’s majesty and claims Kafir to his enemies. Jabbariyah argues that human actions are created by God. On the other hand, Qadariyah argues that human actions are held by themself. Furthermore Jahmiyyah considers on God purification and justice. Moreover Murji’ah trust on omnipotence of God

Get PDFThis study discusses digital games in the contextualization and positioning of arts and culture education in Indonesia. Furthermore, this research focuses on the history of Indonesian art. The method in this research uses qualitative research that discusses the context of games, education, and technology. Data was collected using observations, interviews, and questionnaires which were conducted from January 2019 to March 2020 with the spatial boundaries of senior high schools in Surabaya, East Java, Indonesia. The data that has been obtained then examined from the point of view of Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi's concept of art education and creativity. The results showed that digital games in arts and culture education in high schools encourage students to be more challenged, by having to switch from treating digital games of consumer goods to cultural artifacts that can have meaning, ideas, and knowledge. In addition, digital games in arts and culture education increase creativity in a complex manner in teachers and students. Increased creativity is based on the exploratory abilities of digital games and their complexity as an interdisciplinary field. Furthermore, digital games in arts and culture education in Indonesia can be positioning themselves as agents of the preservation of Indonesian arts and culture

Get PDFTujuan dari penelitian ini untuk mendeskripsikan kategori pembentuk frasa nomina pelaku endosentris atributif dalam istilah-istilah berbahasa Inggris pada bagian kantor depan (front office) hotel. Penelitian yang dilakukan oleh peneliti bersifat deskripstif kualitatif. Penelitian deskriptif bertujuan untuk menjelaskan kategori frase nomina pelaku endosentris atributif dalam istilah-istilah berbahasa Inggris nomina pelaku pada bagian kantor depan (front office) dalam buku ‘Dasar-Dasar Kantor Depan Hotel’. Hasil penelitian ini yaitu kategori frasa nomina pelaku endosentris atributif di bidang front office hotel ada dua yakni atributif yang mendahului unsur pusat dan unsur pusat yang mendahului atribut. Berdasarkan data analisis yang diperoleh, frasa nomina pelaku endosentris atributif di bidang front office hotel berunsur tunggal, kelas kata pada unsur tunggal yaitu noun. Sedangkan atributnya ada yang hanya terdiri satu dan ada yang lebih dari satu atribut. Kelas kata yang termasuk atribut dapat berupa noun, adjective, dan verb. Kategori frasa nomina pelaku endosentris atributif di bidang front office hotel yang berkategori atributif yang mendahului unsur pusat sekurang-kurangnya ditemukan ada 13 data. Sedangkan data yang berkategori frasa nomina pelaku endosentris atributif di bidang front office hotel yang berkategori unsur pusat yang mendahului atributif sekurang-kurangnya ditemukan ada 2 data.

Setiap daerah memiliki gaya pernikahan sesuai dengan adatnya. Permasalahan pada saat ini yaitu pernikahan adat Jawa mulai digantikan dengan kebudayaan yang bersifat modern. Nilai-nilai yang terkandung dalam pernikahan adat Surakarta semakin meluntur. Selain itu makna dan fungsi dalam tata rias dan pakaian tersebut semakin bergeser. Perkembangan teknologi yang semakin pesat membuat masyarakat dapat dengan mudah menerima kebudayaan dari luar. Pada saat ini orang-orang lebih menyukai gaya pernikahan modern yang lebih up to date. Sedangkan pernikahan dengan gaya Adat Jawa dianggap kuno dan ketinggalan jaman. Ada masyarakat yang mudah menerima kebudayan baru dan mencampur adukan dengan tradisi pernikahan lama. Ada pula yang masih mengunakan pernikahan adat Surakarta namun menghilangkan beberapa prosesi yang syarat akan makna. Tujuan dari penelitian ini yaitu untuk mengetahui makna dan filosofi yang terkandung dalam tata rias dan busana adat Surakarta. Dari berbagai hal permasalahan itulah dapat kita ketahui bagaimana sebuah kebudayaan berjalan di tengah arus modernisasi dan bagaimana kebudayaan tersebut terus bejalan dan berkembang dengan kebudayaan-kebudayaan baru yang menenggelamkan kebudayaan lama.
POLITENESS, GENDER AND POWER: THE STUDY OF MAKING AND RESPONDING TO REQUEST IN MOANA MOVIE SCRIPT
Get PDFThe article investigates the relation of politeness, gender and power in making and responding to request between two person with different social status and rank in Moana movie. Trosborg’s taxonomy of request strategies (1995), Face Threatening Acts (FTAs), and politeness strategies by Brown and Levinson (1987), Fairclough theory of power (1989) are applied to explain the phenomenon of how the act of making and responding to requests influence the possible politeness strategies, the construction of gender by language choices and their power. The study indicates that Moana, a daughter of the chief village, succeeds in reaching her goal of her mission to request Maui to restore the ‘heart’ of Te Fiti and further restore and heal the nature. Moana’s success, despite Maui’s rank and status as a powerful male demigod, is the result of her communication of using request strategy, which also demonstrate her powerful position. The finding of this study reveals that both characters’ ways on making and responding request are related to and determine their gender and power
THE VIOLATION OF THE POLITENESS PRINCIPLE MAXIMS IN 300 MOVIE SUBTITLE
Get PDFThis research focused on the violation of politeness maxims done by the characters in 300 movie. The violation has other meaning that mean different from the actual and expressed meaning. The objective of this research is to reveal the implied meaning that was uttered by the characters in 300 movie. Several theories are provided to help the researcher in revealing the related issue. The theories are pragmatics, politeness, politeness principle, and language and context. The type of this research is qualitative research because the data are in the form of sentences in a subtitle of 300 movie. The source of the data is taken from a website of icinema3satu.com and subscene.com. There are several steps to in processing the data in this research, first Classify all the utterances into each maxim using Leech’s politeness principle maxim approach (1983) to categorize the type of the principle maxim, and then Applying the language and context to find the reason and implied meaning of the violating maxims using Brown and Yule’s theory (1983).
