    Introduction. There are various types of information sources and guidelines on information literacy at libraries. It is necessary to understand the types of information sources and guidelines on information literacy needed by students, particularly for those who are in the stage of writing their final assignments. The aims of this paper is to provide  better understanding of the need of information sources for the final year students.Research Methods. This is qualitative descriptive research with 10 final year students in structured interviews as well as observations from the Indonesian Islamic University. Data analysis. Data from interviews and observations were analyzed using qualitative methods on the variables used as research subjects.Results and Discussions. The data showed that types of online and printed information sources include (a) textbooks; (b) journals; (c) proceedings and (d) final assignments (theses and dissertations). In terms of information literacy guidelines, they need some  guideline to (a) access to information sources; (b) analyse information sources; (c) evaluate  information sources and (d) use information sources.Conclusions and Recommendations. The library should provide several types of information sources and information literacy guidelines for students to prepare their final assignments. The paper also suggests that the Directorate of Indonesian Islamic University Library to consider better students’ information needs and continue with further similar research

    Introduction. This study tries to map a conceptual framework in the application of open journal system as a platform for open access journals. Research on scientific journals used as sources of references has been widely conducted, however, more research is needed to understand scientific journals as the object of study. Method and analysis data. This study uses descriptive analysis by using multi-discipline perspective (prosumption -production and consumption- theory) in understanding the management and publication for academic e-journal in digital era, also to review the benefits and the obstacles.Results and Discussions. The results provide better understanding of how a scientific journal should work. This study offers a framework for understanding that scientific journals should also build good relationships with authors and readers who have the potential to become potential authors, and reviewers.Conclusion. This study tries to offer a strategy for managing open access journals so that conceptually can be used in understanding the development of continuous scientific journals, maintaining the quality of publications, and forming good communication between journal managers, writers, readers and reviewers

    Introduction. Library of Universitas Muhammadiyah Sukabumi (UMMI) plays an instrumental music on Tuesdays and Fridays morning to create nicer atmosphere of  reading activities. The paper aims to describe the effects of instrumental music toward users’ reading comfort.Data Collection Method. This research used a descriptive quatitative approach with Likert scale in the surveys. The 54 respondents were gathered by using random sampling.Analysis Data. The data was analyzed by statistical descriptive to show user’s’ perceiveness toward playback of instrumental music (variable Y) and user’s’ reading comfort. The data was analyzed by using SPSS 20  .Results and Discussions. The user’s’ perceiveness toward the playback of instrumental music and the reading comfort were 1.816 and 1.972 and considered “good”. The playback of instrumental music showed a positive effect toward users’ reading comfort with R Square 16.3 %, and thus H1 was accepted.Conclusions. The playback of instrumental music in library has positive effect toward users’ reading comfort. Librarians should vary the music playlists

    Clustering topic groups of documents using K-Means algorithm: Australian Embassy Jakarta media releases 2006-2016

    Introduction. The Australian Embassy in Jakarta is storing a wide array of media release document. Analyzing particular and vital patterns of the documents collection is imperative as it will result in new insights and knowledge of significant topic groups of the documents.Methodology. K-Means was used algorithm as a non-hierarchical clustering method which partitioning data objects into clusters. The method works through minimizing data variation within cluster and maximizing data variation between clusters. Data Analysis.  Of the documents issued between 2006 and 2016, 839 documents were examined in order to determine term frequencies and to generate clusters. Evaluation was conducted by nominating an expert to validate the cluster result.Results and discussions. The result showed that there were 57 meaningful terms grouped into 3 clusters. “People to people links”, “economic cooperation”, and “human development” were chosen to represent topics of the Australian Embassy Jakarta media releases from 2006 to 2016.Conclusions. Text mining can be used to cluster topic groups of documents. It provides a more systematic clustering process as the text analysis is conducted through a number of stages with specifically set parameters.

    Introduction. The purpose of this study is to identify the roles of digital technology in the Depok City Public Library. The main challenge of the digital community is the increasing digital divide and the weakening of the identity of local communities which can result in low social participation and involvement in community issues. This study focuses on the characteristics of the people of Depok City to assess the role of public libraries that have the potential to be public spaces and places for social and physical meetings in the digital era.Data Collection Methods. This was a qualitative research with  interviews involving librarians, library directors and  users.Data Analysis. The data was analyzed by involving the process of data reduction, interpretation, and conclusion. The research setting at the chosen was the Depok City Public Library, close to the Capital of Indonesia.Results and Discussion. The results showed that Depok City public library of has several roles in the field of education, information, culture and recreation. These roles can be increased by involving  technology  as a means of library promotion.Conclusion and recommendations. The space and infrastructure in the library can be used optimally for various activities in order to enhance the role of the library as a public space and places for social and physical meetings in the digital era

    Introduction. The productivity of scientific journals in Indonesia is still relatively low compared to other ASEAN countries. This study aims to determine author's productivity patterns as well as the growth trend of archaeological articles in the journal of Kapata Arkeologi published by Balai Arkeologi Maluku within the range from 2005 to 2017. Data Collection Method. The method used in this research was descriptive quantitative, to examine the author's contribution in generating field of Archeology, understand the pattern of author's productivity by testing against the enactment of Lotka's Law and provide an overview of patterns of development publications by Kapata Archeologi.Analysis Data. The author's productivity analysis used Lotka's Law and statistical testing by  Kolmogrov-Seminorv.Results and Discussions. The  productivity pattern showed that authors published one article was 32.58%, 2 articles were 17.44% - meaning that more than a quarter of the author  produced 1 article. The author who contributed most in Kapata Arkeologi was Wuri Handoko who has published 29 articles. Among other sub fields, Archaeological History articles are the most widely published article with a total of 76 articles.Conclusions. The productivity level of Kapata Archeology journal authors is very high.  Further bibliometric analysis related to the collaboration of authors is needed

    Introduction. Strategies of Deep Acting and Surface Acting using Emotional Labor in library services have been conducted. The study aims to examine the effect of Emotional Labor on library user satisfaction mediated by Customer-Employee Rapport.Method. There were 86 participants involved in this experimental study. They were undergraduate students in Makassar who were asked to watch the video related to library services by using Deep Acting or Surface Acting strategies.Data Analysis. Hypothesis were examined by using Hayes Process analysis to understand the mediation model.Results and Discussions. Emotional Labor strategy was found to have a relationship to  customer satisfaction through Customer-Employee Rapport mediation. Emotional labor strategy was found to have directly affected customer satisfaction and Customer-Employee Rapport. The librarians  applied Deep Acting strategy to enhance customer satisfaction and customer-employee rapport was found to be more effective compared to Surface Acting. The librarians’ emotional expression in deep acting enables them to transform the positive emotion between librarians and users, thus, it improves good relationships and customer satisfaction.Conclusion. The librarians’ emotional labor strategies effect on library user satisfaction with customer-employee rapport as the mediation variable. Future research should discuss another library experiment based on gender perspectives

    Introduction. This research aims to obtain the mapping of research in the field of Library and Information in Berkala Ilmu Perpustakaan dan Informasi(BIP) published by Universitas Gadjah Mada.  The Research Method.This was abibliometric analysis using Zipf (frequency spread of word) with research samples of 20 jurnal articles published by BIP in 2017.Data Collection Method. Every article was examined by the highest word frequencyresulting keywords and subjects for each article. Further analysis was conducted to classify subject grouping based on Hawkins theory.Results and Discussions. The results indicated that research topics in Berkala Ilmu Perpustakaan dan Informasi UGM in 2017 were classified into two categories: (1) There were, 16 articlesrelated to the topic “Librarians”, (2) There were 4 articles related to the topic“Information Science”. The result is the tendency of research topics in the field of the IPI entered into a group of librarianship.Conclusion. The research topics in the field of Library and Information Science is more likely to enter the librarianship group. Future advice is that researchers are expected to develop research by raising other topics

    Development of guided reading-based village library services and its implementation

    Introduction. The role of village libraries as resource centers are not widely known by the community. The village libraries have varying weaknesses in aspects of a library. The problems are the lack of human resources; less library services and promotion; insufficient collection; inadequacy of library furniture and equipment; unstable internet network; and lack of local government support. This study was a pioneer in facilitating the reading service system to support implementation of reading materials. This system was developed by village libraries through guided reading techniques.Data Collection Method. This paper used Participatory Research Appraisal to guide the data collection process involving 15 participants.Analysis Data. The participants were rural people living in West Java, Indonesia. Additional data were obtained through direct observations in seven village libraries in West Java. Data from informants were compiled and categorized according to their comparative aspects. The result is sequential activity design in accordance with PRAResults and Discussions. The results showed that village libraries were not being recognized and utilized by members of the rural community.Conclusion. They expect that the entrepreneurship activities of reading efficient technology–based books are supported by actual business practices

    Introduction. The information retrieval service continues to experience growth form of a card catalog into a computer-based catalog (OPAC), and became discovery. The purpose of this study to determine the level of readiness of UGM Library in the application of summon discovery service.Data Collection Method. This paper used survey with a quantitative approach.  Analysis Data. The data was analyzed by statistical descriptive and hypothesis testing using SPSS software.Results and Discussions. The results showed of the organizational readiness of 2.55, which categorized “ready”The level of readiness of organizational resources obtained the score 2.54 and categorised “ready”.Conclusions.. In the variable organization, the highest indicator was  organizational culture followed by the organizational structure and management support. In terms of organization Resources, human resources were the highest  followed by ICT, and financial resources
