Marktstudie zu regionalen Bio-Lebensmitteln in Hessen
Die vorliegende Studie trägt zum Monitoring der Entwicklung des ökologischen Landbaus bei, indem sie vorhandene Daten zum ökologischen Land- und Gemüsebau auswertet. Bereits mit dem „Bio-Marktbericht Hessen 2022 – Marktpotenzial regionaler Bio-Lebensmittel in Hessen“ wurde eine umfassende Grundlage zur Analyse von Angebot und Nachfrage im hessischen Ökolandbau geschaffen (Zander et al., 2022). Die vorliegende Studie baut darauf auf und ergänzt das Monitoring, indem sie aktuelle Daten zum ökologischen Land- und Gemüsebau in Hessen analysiert und mit den Ergebnissen des vorherigen Berichts vergleicht. Die räumliche Darstellung der Produktionsschwerpunkte trägt dazu bei, regionale Besonderheiten und Entwicklungspotenziale im ökologischen Landbau besser zu verstehen
Økologisk jordbruk sikrer biologisk mangfold
Økologisk jordbruk er en spydspiss for bærekraftig jordbruk blant annet ved å bidra til et stort biologisk mangfold. Ulike tiltak innen allsidig plantedyrking og husdyrhold ivaretar kulturlandskap med stort biologisk mangfold. Færre innsatsmidler, for eksempel pesticider; god ressursutnyttelse, for eksempel mindre nitrogengjødsel fra mer stabile kilder, og fokus på naturlige økosystemtjenester bidrar også. Biologisk mangfold sikres også ved å holde beitemark i hevd i inn- og utmark. Dette bekreftes av meta-analyser av flere sammenlignbare studier og livsløpsanalyser (LCA)

Crop genotype modulates root rot resistance-associated microbial community composition and abundance of key taxa
Background
Plants are constantly challenged by pathogens, which can cause substantial yield losses. The aggressiveness of and damage by pathogens depends on the host-associated microbiome, which might be shaped by plant genetics to improve resistance. How different crop genotypes modulate their microbiota when challenged by a complex of pathogens is largely unknown. Here, we investigate if and how pea (Pisum sativum L.) genotypes shape their root microbiota upon challenge by soil-borne pathogens and how this relates to a genotype’s resistance. Building on the phenotyping efforts of 252 pea genotypes grown in naturally infested soil, we characterized root fungi and bacteria by ITS region and 16 S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing, respectively.
Results
Pea genotype markedly affected both fungal and bacterial community composition, and these genotype-specific microbiota were associated with root rot resistance. For example, genotype resistance was correlated (R2 = 19%) with root fungal community composition. Further, several key microbes, showing a high relative abundance, heritability, connectedness with other microbes, and correlation with plant resistance, were identified.
Conclusions
Our findings highlight the importance of crop genotype-specific root microbiota under root rot stress and the potential of the plant to shape its associated microbiota as a second line of defense
Organic Farming -principles, practices, and current scope in a global perspective
Organic agriculture is the quest for pure food. The principles and practices of organic agriculture have evolved over the past century. The New Age philosopher Dr Rudolf Steiner, in 1924, called for a differentiated agriculture that relied on biology rather than synthetic chemicals. Subsequently, a biodynamic farmer in Kent, Lord Northbourne, coined the term 'organic farming' and launched his manifesto of organic agriculture in 1940, amidst the chaos of World War II. The six exclusions from organic production are: synthetic fertilisers, pesticides, genetically modified organisms (GMOs), Irradiation, synthetic medications, and nanotechnology. Organic agriculture is now practiced in 191 countries, it accounts for 76.4 million hectares globally, and €125 billion (US$136 B) sales per annum. Australia has the most organic hectares, and Germany has the most biodynamic hectares. The long term growth trend of the organic sector is an increase of 10.15% per annum. The goal of Europe is 25% organic by 2030. Two European countries already meet this goal, Lichtenstein with 40% organic agriculture, and Austria with 27%. India's hill state of Sikkim is the world's first 100% organic state. Glyphosate is the world's most used herbicide, it has been linked to the development of multiple chronic diseases and conditions including autism, irritable bowel syndrome, and cancer. Most non organic food contains pesticides. Most organic food does not contain pesticides. Eating organic is a sound strategy for consuming less pesticides

Small plot trials for protein and legume crops
In small plot trials for protein and legume crops, we have been testing different varieties under organic conditions since 2022. Plots are arranged in a randomized, 4 replicate experimental design. They are at least 1x6 m in size and implement agro-techniques according to organic farming standards. Sowing and harvesting are carried out with small plot seeders and combines. Meteorological data during the growing season are recorded, weed pressure, plant protection and phenological data are also recorded. The small plot trials are designed to compare varieties and to assess the production potential and agrotechnological challenges of different protein crops
