Ikke-økologisk gjødsel i økologisk landbruk
Rapporten gir en oppdatert kunnskapsstatus innen enkelte tema om noen ikke-økologiske gjødselvarer ved bruk i økologisk landbruk. Bruk av slik gjødsel kan medføre innførsel av uønskete og ikke-tillatte stoffer. I rapporten omtales blant annet biorest og flytende, organisk gjødsel. Tungmetaller, plast og andre uønska stoffer i råstoffene til biogassanlegg kan overføres til bioresten og videre til jorda der bioresten blir spredd. Prosesshjelpemidler og tilsetningsstoffer benyttes i biogassproduksjon. Vi vet lite om disse stoffene overføres til bioresten. Resultater fra en spørreundersøkelse blant landbruksrådgivere for å kartlegge hva de mangler av kunnskap om biorest blir presentert. Flytende, organisk gjødsel kan inneholde rester av pesticider, det kan også innført ikke-økologisk husdyrgjødsel, ulike typer kompost og organisk materiale som halm. Det er også en risiko for innføring av vekstregulerende preparater (stråforkortere) ved innkjøp av halm fra gårder der slike midler er brukt. Rapporten omfatter også omtale av den europeiske ekspertgruppa EGTOPs forslag til nye regler for tilførsel av ikke-økologisk husdyrgjødsel til økologisk landbruk og hvilke mulige konsekvenser de kan få for norske øko-produsenter. Nåværende regler har begrensninger i bruk ut fra begrepet “factory farming”. EGTOP foreslår at begrensningen i stedet skal baseres på kg nitrogen per dekar og at tillatt mengde graderes ut fra opprinnelse og om gjødsla er prosessert

Anfang April fand die Vitifit-Konferenz in der Nähe von Freiburg im Breisgau statt. An der Veranstaltung nahmen knapp 300 Fachleute aus Forschung, Praxis und Politik teil. Vitifit ist das bisher größte deutsche Praxisforschungsprojekt im Ökoweinbau und soll Ende 2025 abgeschlossen werden. Uranian agriculture during the full-scale Russian-Ukranian War: Consequences, policy responses and recovery strategies
The full-scale Russian-Ukrainian war(RUW) has caused significant damage to the country’s agricultural sector and poses a threat to global food security. However, the impact of the war on agricultural policy remains uncertain. To ensure a deep understanding of the challenges facing Ukraine’s agricultural sector, we systematically review statistical data, legislative and regulatory measures, and relevant literature. Our analysis focuses on the war period from 24 February 2022 to the end of 2024. We identify the main issues arising from the RUWand the agricultural policy responses. In addition, we outline potential trajectories for developing Ukraine’s agricultural sector in the post-war period. This study isthe first attempt to analyse Ukraine’s agricultural policy during the war and envisages future post-war development through a comprehensive assessment of the agricultural challenges and policy frameworks during the war.RUWdamagedUkraine’s agricultural and food production, disrupting trade with other nations. Its global impact was felt through increased fuel and food prices, whichaffected the entire global economy.RUWhas severely disrupted food production and trade in Ukraine. Targeted attacks by the Russian army on Ukrainian agriculture, such as shelling of agricultural facilities and infrastructure across Ukraine, mining and burning of agricultural land near active combat zones, a five-month blockade of Black Sea ports (and the re-imposition of the blockade as of July 2023), and the undermining of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Dam, have severely hampered the functioning of the Ukrainian agricultural sector. It is crucial to determine the key areas that have experienced the most significant impact, including the destruction and deterioration of fixed assets, a decline in cultivatedland due to occupation, landmines, and soil contamination. Other significant challenges encompass export limitations, a decline in domestic food prices, severe disruptions to logistics networks, and shortages of essential resources such as labour, finances, and energy, which hinder the operations of agricultural producers. A comprehensive analysis and synthesis of these challenges will facilitate the identification of strategic directions for maintaining and restoring the agricultural sector both during and after the war.However, there is still a lack of analysis of the Ukrainian agricultural sector and its challenges, as well as a lack of studies on policy adjustments during the war and the sector’s post-war prospects. Our study aims to fill these gaps by providing a comprehensive assessment of the multiple impacts of the full-scale Russian-Ukrainian war on Ukraine’s agricultural sector. Focusing on the first two and half years of the war, we examine the scale, scope and dynamics of the invasion, while assessing the government’s responses to mitigate its effects. The structure of the paper is such that an overview of Ukraine’s agricultural sector prior to the war is firstly provided, followed by an analysis of how the RUW has affected sector development. The article then assesses the agricultural policy pursued during the war and concludes with a detailed analysis of the results obtained, highlighting their significance for policy and future research

Ambitious food system interventions required to mitigate the risk of exceeding Earth’s environmental limits
Transforming the global food system is essential to avoid exceeding Earth’s environmental limits. A robust evidence base is crucial to assess the scale and combination of interventions required for a sustainable transformation. We developed a risk assessment framework, underpinned by an evidence synthesis of global food system modeling studies, to quantify the potential of individual and combined interventions to mitigate the risk of exceeding global environmental limits for agricultural area, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, surface water flows, and nutrient cycles by 2050. GHG emissions and nutrient cycles are the most difficult limits to avoid exceeding and are conditional on shifts toward diets with a low proportion of animal-source foods; steep reductions in emissions intensity; substantial improvements in nutrient management, feed-conversion ratios, and crop yields; and efforts to limit overconsumption and food waste. Ambitious actions across the global food system are needed to ensure the required level of risk mitigation

Effect of differing proportions of protein‑rich common vetch seeds (Vicia sativa L. cultivar Slovena) in organic dietsfor broiler chickens
The common vetch is a legume with low requirements for soil type and water availability and a good weed suppression together with an intercropping partner, thereby recommending itself for organic agriculture, especially in view of climate change. The use of the protein-rich seeds of common vetch for poultry, however, is limited due to anti-nutritional factors (ANF). This study was conducted to examine the use of common vetch seeds (cultivar: Slovena) in 100% organic diets for slow-growing broiler chickens. The common vetch seeds were found to be rich in protein and lysine (343 and 21.5 g/kg dry matter), and their vicine (5.69 g), convicine (0.75 g) and γ-glutamyl-β-cyanoalanine (6.9 g) levels were at the lower range of previous reports, while tannin levels (8.1 g total tannins/kg dry matter) were at the higher end. A vetch-free control and experimental diets containing 75, 100 and 125 g common vetch seeds/kg of diet were fed during the grower (day 29–49) and finisher (day 50–70) period of two consecutive fattening periods, to a total of 8 groups of 20 mixed-sex broilers per treatment. No differences in feed intake, animal performance and welfare status were found, therefore including up to 125 g common vetch seeds/kg of diet can be recommended. Based on a comparison of the ANF contents with previous reports, higher inclusion rates should be possible, as negative effects can be expected at 350 g common vetch seeds/kg of diet, which is higher than necessary in diet formulation anyway
