Kultura mluveného projevu ve výuce zahraničních studentů češtiny
The author is a teacher of the subject Cultivation of Spoken Language at the Institute of Czech Studies for Foreigners and of Communication of the Deaf at the Charles University. Mesiášská stylizace ve Wolkerově Svatém Kopečku
This year marks the 100th anniversary of Jiří Wolker’s death. One of the highlights of his work is the poem Svatý Kopeček (1921). Our central thesis is that the speaker in Svatý Kopeček is styled as a messiah, which we will support with textual evidence from Svatý Kopeček. By incorporating Christian symbolism into our analysis, we aim to demonstrate that Czech avantgarde also includes elements of hyperbolic-titanic stylization
Židovské postavy v prózách Josefa Škvoreckého
The present article, published on the occasion of the centenary of the Czech writer Josef Škvorecký (1924–2012), looks at his work through the prism of artistic representation of the Shoah and Jewish characters. Most naturally, it focuses on the composed cycle of short stories Sedmiramenný svícen (1964; The Seven-Armed Candlestick), in which the Jewish theme is signalled by the title. Two Jewish women survivors of the Shoah appear in the novel Lvíče (1969; Lioness), and – especially in comparison with Arnošt Lustig’s prose – in completely different, more active roles. The other characters of Jewish origin in Škvorecký‘s other prose works are no longer significant and appear rather in a secondary role

K české recepci dvou moderních klasiků německé literatury pro děti
Reception of the translations of the works by two German authors of books for children is our research topic and we focus on the reception in the Czech environment. In case of Erich Kästner we mainly deal with the book Emil a detektivové. As far as Otfried Preussler’s work is concerned, we analyse mainly the book Loupežník Hotzenplotz as in this case several translations circulate. Comparation of these translations reveals interesting insights into Czech translation techniques in the field
Polská ženská adjektivní příjmení v češtině: Čtení Milana Kundery a Gabriela Gárcíi Márqueze v souvislostech
The paper describes structural models for dealing with Polish women’s adjective surnames in Czech, approves the recommendations given by linguistic authorities in this field, and pays attention to a relatively new, structurally inadequate declension model emerging in use
K větněčlenskému statusu forem typu pět: Poznámka k pojmu syntaktické závislosti
On sentence member status of the forms like pět
A Note on the concept of syntactic dependency
The main goal of the paper is to show how it would be possible to explain (very clearly) the concept of syntactic dependency to the students and to demonstrate convincingly that in syntagmas like pět písniček ʻfive songsʼ the numeral is undoubtedly a syntactically dependent member, and also that the often declared discrepancy between meaning and form (in these syntagmas) is only illusory. The paper is to a great extent linguodidactic in nature, however, the author also offers some observations that could be of interest even to syntax theorists
