Unveiling distinct neuroimmune responses in mouse models of cervical spinal cord injury: Hemisection versus hemicontusion

    No full text
International audienceTraumatic cervical spinal cord injury (cSCI) causes severe neurological deficits and long-term disability. Preclinical models such as cervical vertebrate level 2 (C2) hemisection (C2HS), which disrupts communication between respiratory centers and the phrenic motoneurons pool, have been used for decades to study respiratory dysfunction and neuroinflammation after cSCI. Recently, contusive injuries such as cervical vertebrate level 3 hemicontusion (C3HC) have been increasingly employed, as they induce phrenic motoneuron damage and offer a more clinically relevant model of SCI. However, these two different models may engage distinct pathophysiological cascades, raising concerns about the generalizability of findings across injury paradigms. In this study, we compared neuroimmune responses following C2HS or C3HC in mice. Animals underwent either lesion, and spinal cord segments (C1-C8) were collected seven days post-injury for immuno-histological analyses around the lesion level and flow cytometry analyses at the lesion level. We observed that C2HS preserved more neurons accompanied by an upregulation of CD86 and F4/80 in macroglia, markers of activated macrophages, suggesting a response oriented toward phagocytic and reparative functions. This phenotype was associated with limited pro-inflammatory cell infiltration and normalized level of systemic IL-6 level. Conversely, C3HC induced more extensive tissue damage, heightened microglial activation, a trend toward increased astrocytic reactivity, and significantly elevated CSPG levels on the contralateral side. Moreover, a persistent NK cell, neutrophil, and CD43+ infiltrating cells, along with sustained elevation of circulating IL-6 These findings demonstrate distinct neuroinflammatory signatures and repairing mechanisms between models. This study underscores, for the first time, how injury type shapes neuroimmune mechanisms, reinforcing the need for lesion-specific therapeutic strategies in cervical spinal cord injury

Liens entre les glossaires Abavus et pseudo-Philoxenus. Nouvelles Hypothèses

    No full text

Materiality in Alice Munro's Short Fiction

    No full text
This Special Issue of Short Fiction in Theory and Practice , edited by Corinne Bigot (University of Toulouse) and Christine Lorre (University of Caen), is devoted to ‘Alice Munro and Materiality’. Approaching Munro’s work through the prism of materiality is a way to revisit the questions of the apparent ‘realism’ of her writing, which leads to re-examining the relation between materiality and the immaterial for a writer, or any artist. Material matters are a powerful entry point into a woman’s world-view, the life of the imagination, the human psyche – including its most sombre corners – which altogether constitute Munro’s material as a writer. To illustrate ways to investigate this research direction, which is taken up by the articles of the issue, this editorial sketches out how materiality generates images that are related alternately to the body, domestic violence, memories and emotions, and the manyfold significance of houses

    No full text
International audienceThis article examines how Spanish folklore was reinterpreted in the service of two ideologically opposing projects during the 1960s: the provincial volumes from the Francoist "XXV Years of Peace" propaganda campaign and the Anthologie Sonore de l’Espagne by socialist exile Ambrosi Carrión. While the dictatorship used folklore to construct and promote an official image of Spain as a symbol of unity and modernity, Carrión presented it as a tool for resistance and cultural diversity from exile. Both projects share formal characteristics, such as the combination of text, images, and music, but diverge radically in their purpose. The study addresses the instrumentalization of folklore for political ends, highlighting tensions between authenticity and spectacle, and how the dynamics of patrimonialization and touristification were integrated into these projects.

    Non-verbal predicates in Oceanic languages

    No full text
International audienceOceanic languages, much like the rest of Austronesian, show a propensity to do without any copula when encoding their non-verbal predicates. Their typical profile is “omnipredicative”: most of their word classes (adjectives, nouns, pronouns, numerals, adverbs…) can head a predicate directly, with no need to resort to verbal strategies. Many classes are even “tamophoric”, i.e. can inflect for Tense–Aspect–Mood. This overview of Oceanic languages builds around the system of Mwotlap (Vanuatu), a radical example of these grammatical tendencies. Overall, the Oceanic family reminds us that the properties [predicative] and [tamophoric] are not a privilege of verbs, but can be associated, in principle, with just any word class

International audienceDespite the prominence given to oral expression in French as a foreign language textbooks, the specific phenomena of interaction do not feature very prominently. The use of authentic materials is, in this context, a means to be favored by the teacher to make learners aware of all kinds of oral components. But it is still necessary to be able to identify the specific features and forms of use of the most used phenomena. The aim of this article is therefore to shed light on how certain constituents characteristic of authentic speech function in situ, and on the role of discourse genres in the choices made by speakers. The analysis of allocutionary behaviors in lectures (around 15 hours of lessons), surveys (Multicultural Paris French—MPF corpus), and conversations (Corpus de LAngue Parlée en Interaction—CLAPI) is followed by an examination of the language registers used. The result is the identification of characteristic behaviors of the three genres under study, with a view to a didactic extension to help learners identify how they function in context. Claudel, C. (2026). The influence of functional and discursive strategies on the use of complex and complete syntax after the age of 3: a sequential analysis in a French intervention programme.

    No full text
International audienceNumerous studies have documented the features of child-directed speech, such as recasts and prompts, that contribute to the development of phonology, morphology, lexicon, and syntax in children before three. Upon entering the school system, significant disparities in language skills become apparent. This exploratory study aims to provide a deeper understanding of the processes that foster the development of complex syntactic skills in French-speaking children aged three to five with language vulnerabilities in an after-school intervention programme. Specifically, this research investigates which features of child-directed speech influence the syntactic structure of children's utterances in terms of complexity and completeness. A series of dyadic interactions between an adult and a child engaged in a joint narration within an intervention programme were analysed using sequential analysis. The findings indicate that the functional strategies (assertions and prompts) employed by adults as the discursive strategies (recasts and offers) significantly influence the syntactic structure of children’s utterances. Assertions facilitate the production of complete and more complex utterances, whereas prompts are linked to the use of incomplete and simpler utterances. Additionally, recasts promote the use of complex and complete utterances, in contrast to offers. Furthermore, children appear to become increasingly aware of adults’ expectations over time
