“She snow on my clone ’til I change the words”: A construction based analysis of "She X on my Y till I Z"
No full textSnowclones, partially filled constructions with extravagant linguistic features, have received more attention in the literature as of late, especially with their rise in text-based online meme culture. The present study looks at the recently coined snowclone “She X on my Y ’til I Z” and analyzes it under approaches in construction grammar. I discuss how this snowclone fits within extant definitions, arguing that although this construction is unselective in lexical categories in the slot fillers, it is still a snowclone as defined in Hartmann and Ungerer (2023) due to its pragmatic functions in online subcultures. I then look at the syntax and semantics of the snowclone, analyzing definitions of the resultative and causative constructions and positing that this snowclone is an instantiation of the causative, using Goldberg and Jackendoff (2004)’s analysis of the resultative as a jumping off point. Finally, I examine the semantics of the different senses of the snowclone, constructing metaphorical links between its central sense and subsenses in the same vein of Goldberg (1995)’s treatment of the ditransitive. The different subsenses are characterized by where the source reference appears, with the central sense being the prototypical idea of a resultative caused by an agent, and its subsenses placing the source reference in either the verbal or constructional subevent

The Paradox of Anti-Intellectualism in Dark Academia
No full textThe subculture, aesthetic, and genre ‘Dark Academia’ romanticizes classical literature and academic life. However, it paradoxically contains elements of anti-intellectualism within its performative celebration of intellectualism. This paper explores how this paradox contributes to the commodification of books and the emergence of a specific readerly identity. By applying Richard Hofstadter’s theory of American anti-intellectualism, this paper relates the paradox to a broader cultural trend of prioritizing aesthetic over substance as exemplified by BookTok, a subcommunity on the social media platform TikTok. The discussion centers on Donna Tartt’s novel The Secret History as a primary example of the Dark Academia literary genre, revealing how its romanticization of academic life encourages elitism and exclusivity, yet ultimately critiques the superficial intellectualism present in both the subculture and real-life academia

No full textDie Veröffentlichung der bundesweiten „Mitte-Studie“ im Herbst 2023 ging mit dem medialen Tenor einher, der Rechtsextremismus in der deutschen Bevölkerung hätte in geradezu „alarmierender“ Weise zugenommen. Demgegenüber hatte eine kurz zuvor publizierte Studie des Institut für Demoskopie in Bezug auf den gleichen Zeitraum (2019-2023) keinen Anstieg konstatiert. Von keinem Anstieg war ebenfalls die Rede in einer infratest-dimap-Studie, welche die Jahre 2016 und 2023 verglich und konstante Verhältnisse ermittelte. Dass mit dem Eintreten der Corona-Krise ein vorübergehender Rückgang in der Verbreitung rechtsextremer Einstellungen stattfand, lässt sich inzwischen ebenfalls durch eine Reihe weiterer Erhebungen aus dieser Zeit belegen. Diese sind allerdings etwas bruchstückhaft, zusammengenommen aber fügen sie sich doch zu einem konsistenten Bild zusammen: Die Corona-Krise hat das Ausmaß rechtsextremer Einstellungen in der Bevölkerung – wenn auch nur vorübergehend – reduziert. Aber gelten die für die Bundesrepublik (und andere Länder) beschriebenen Entwicklungen auch für die ostdeutschen Bundesländer

No full textDie Diskussion um ein Parteiverbot ist begleitet von politischen Bedenken vor allem hinsichtlich eines Scheiterns, das bei einem Antrag gegen die Gesamtpartei zumindest nicht ausgeschlossen werden kann. Der Beitrag zeigt auf, dass bereits wenige Anpassungen im BVerfGG es ermöglichen sollten, dass ein Verbotsantrag auch hinsichtlich der Teilorganisation einer Partei und dieser auch von einer Landesregierung gestellt werden kann. Dasselbe gilt für den Ausschluss von der staatlichen Finanzierung von Teilorganisationen
