Training interventions for teachers' self-efficacy enhancement in the use of Artificial Intelligence: A systematic literature review in the five-year period 2020-2025
Representations of Pandemic and Climate Crisis in Greek Language – Impacts on Communication and Social Inequality
This paper explores how various contemporary crises, such as the pandemic and the climate crisis, are reflected linguistically in public discourse. It investigates the representations of these crises within language, highlighting the significant impact that social transformations and phenomena have on linguistic expression. Central to the analysis is how such crises bring about notable shifts in word meanings, as familiar terms often acquire new, multifaceted connotations. A key aspect of the study is the examination of semantic changes in specific words, where known audio patterns and verbal structures are employed to convey altered meanings—sometimes in ways that may confuse recipients. Although mainstream media often promote an image of broad consensus, these semantic shifts are not always the result of natural language evolution among native speakers. Instead, they are frequently introduced in a top-down fashion, constructing a veiled reality. In this constructed reality, official narratives concerning economic, political, or social matters may obscure deeper truths, limiting public understanding of the actual crises they experience. Moreover, the study delves into how such linguistic redefinitions can weaken social protections and intensify social inequality. It also examines the impact of these shifts on education—particularly language education—by hindering students' ability to engage critically with public discourse. The research material includes texts drawn from newspapers, television news broadcasts, and social media platforms. The study is grounded in the theoretical framework of Critical Discourse Analysis. Ultimately, the paper seeks to shed light on the wider social implications of these linguistic transformations and the challenges they present to education in times of societal crisis
Beyond Metrics: A Framework for Scholarly Evaluation in LIS, Communication, History, and Philosophy
Purpose - This research aims to identify, document, and comparatively analyze the reviewer guidelines of the 80 most prominent academic journals, as ranked by Google Scholar Metrics, in the fields of Library and Information Science, Communication, History and Philosophy. The goal is to propose a unified, interoperable, and adaptable conceptual evaluation model that acknowledges disciplinary specificities while preserving scholarly autonomy.
Design/methodology/approach - A mixed-methods research design was employed, combining quantitative and qualitative content analysis of 22 sources (16 unique websites, 5 publisher responses, and 1 interview). Structured thematic coding was applied to the material, followed by the creation of four identical text analysis forms, each including eleven pairs of qualitative and quantitative questions aligned with 11 key article evaluation criteria. Descriptive statistics (means, medians, mode values, and standard deviations) were used to rank criteria, while qualitative comparisons were organized into thematic tables with direct excerpts to capture disciplinary similarities and differences.
Findings - The study revealed substantial commonalities across fields, particularly the importance of data adequacy, coherence of conclusions, and adherence to ethical standards. Notable disciplinary differences were also identified, such as rhetorical emphasis in Philosophy and technical precision in Library and Information Science. The analysis informed the development of an interoperable conceptual evaluation model structured around shared foundations with adaptable elements tailored to each field.
Originality/value - This research contributes an innovative conceptual evaluation framework that combines epistemological inclusivity with cross-disciplinary applicability. By enhancing transparency and supporting reviewers in interdisciplinary contexts, the model offers a foundation for future expansion into additional scientific domains and provides practical guidance for harmonizing article evaluation practices
Temporal Wounds and Racial Ruins: : Structural Racism, Traumatic Latency, and Familial Disintegration in Jesmyn Ward’s Salvage the Bones
Jesmyn Ward’s Salvage the Bones (2011) reimagines Hurricane Katrina not as an isolated natural disaster but as the culmination of systemic neglect and racialized precarity in the American South. This paper examines how structural racism, manifest in housing, healthcare, and economic disenfranchisement, functions as slow, cumulative trauma that destabilizes Black familial life. Drawing on Lawrence and Keleher’s theory of structural racism and Cathy Caruth’s trauma theory, the study argues that the novel depicts trauma as temporally dispersed rather than event-based. Esch’s fractured narration, the father’s survivalist compulsions, and Skeetah’s obsessive care for China emerge as expressions of psychic dislocation and deferred affect. Ultimately, the novel reconfigures the disaster narrative by exposing how racial violence persists through affective and infrastructural absences. Ward critiques the myth of a post-racial America, revealing how trauma is encoded into the very systems that purport to safeguard marginalized communities
Mapping Trauma as Inheritance in The Libation Bearers
The Libation Bearers is a Greek tragic play by Aeschylus, which serves as the second part in the trilogy called Oresteia. This paper examines The Libation Bearers from hauntological and psychoanalytic theoretical frameworks as the Atreid household becomes a battleground of spectral (in)justice and (un)resolved mourning. In the play, Orestes exacts justice by reinscribing the very violence he seeks to expiate. Similarly, Electra’s laments conjure the past as a living wound. The Furies are what the symbolic order couldn't symbolize. Borrowing Jacques Derrida’s concept of the revenant and Jacques Lacan’s concept of objet petit a, the paper seeks to understand how the domestic space in this play serves as a setting for psychological topology, where memory mingles with desire to attain justice. Buried underneath the trauma of the siblings lies a spectral call for justice where trauma isn’t merely staged as an event but as a return of the repressed
INVISIBLE ACTORS IN THE GREEK THEATRE: STAGING THE PROLOGUE OF SOPHOCLES’ AJAX
In the prologue of Sophocles' tragedy Ajax, three actors appear, playing the roles of Odysseus, Athena, and Ajax. The scene presents a particular dramatic interest because Sophocles devises a directorial device by making Athena invisible to Odysseus and, subsequently, Odysseus invisible to Ajax's eyes. The three actors interact in pairs of dialogues: first, between the supposedly invisible Athena and Odysseus, and then between Athena and Ajax, with Odysseus watching as a silent and unseen listener to the conversation of the two characters on stage. The aim of the present study is, firstly, to contribute to the discussion on the staging of the invisible Athena in the play's prologue, which raises the theatrical issue concerning her appearance on the theologeion (the roof or raised platform for gods), and secondly, to investigate the staging of the invisible Odysseus, which is combined with the silence he must observe at Athena's prompting to avoid being perceived by the raging Ajax. Conversely, the spectators watch the actors playing invisible characters in their encounters and are called upon to focus their attention on the text’s indications to understand the innovations in Sophocles' stage version of the myth of Ajax, which they know from the Homeric tradition
