Full text linkThis text is an attempt at analysing the linguistic image of a J ew on the basis of Hôrkij śmich by a little-known Ukrainian poet Leon Węgliński. According to researchers, every language has a specific interpretation of reality which is expressed in a unique view and perception of the world. This article, through a thorough analysis of the vocabulary, grammar structures and descriptions, shows the images of a J ew in the nineteenth century: his identity, character traits and daily functioning. Wierność, powinność, uniżoność i inne kategorie grzeczności językowej w finalnych formułach epistolarnych XVIII wieku
Full text linkThe article is a study of politeness formulae retained in the eighteenth-century epistolography expressing certain feelings and attitudes of the sender towards the addressee, namely: good will (z prawdziwym afektem), faithfulness (z należytą obserwancją), gratefulness (z nieskończoną rekognicją), duty (z niewzruszoną obligacją), obedience (z najgłębszą submisją). One can treat them as one common category of etiquette because of their approximate semantic value, common pragmatic aim, very similar formal structure and the same final location in the epistolary text. The analysis was based on 305 original, handwritten and unpublished eighteenth-century letters written by several dozens of noblemen. Full text linkThe authors of the article present the results of (quantitative and qualitative) research on narrative interviews from the Oral History Archive – more precisely: memories of the Warsaw Uprising witnesses (its active participants). The main subject of the analyses, which align with the trends of reflections on the phenomenon of studies on social archives and follow the premises of memory linguistics, are the elements of the lexical level, i.e. collocations of the possessive pronouns mój, nasz (my, ours). In the discourse on the events of August 1944, they can be considered to be some of the significant determinants of individual and/or collective identities of the subjects. The search for answers to the questions about how the identity of the Warsaw Uprising participants is revealed at the level of selected biographical narrations, what elements dominate there and how it is determined, allows for drawing some conclusions, including the final one: despite the expected predominance of individual identity (and personal views of the past), the examined relationships show a strong expansion of the sense of community which is evident even in the areas that fall within the domain of individual memory.The authors of the article present the results of (quantitative and qualitative) research on narrative interviews from the Oral History Archive – more precisely: memories of the Warsaw Uprising witnesses (its active participants). Full text linkThe article discusses the kitab studies covering the physical and cultural legacy of the Tatars of the former Grand Duchy of Lithuania (today: Polish, Belarusian and Lithuanian Tatars). Religious manuscripts, including kitabs, are a part of Tatars’ cultural legacy, hence the article presents these writings and the areas of research on kitabs that cover: a) cataloguing the manuscripts; b) monographic studies providing their philological analysis; c) discussion of their content, with attention to Muslim and Christian traditions; d) textual analysis of these old texts; e) editorial preparations.The article discusses the kitab studies covering the physical and cultural legacy of the Tatars of the former Grand Duchy of Lithuania (today: Polish, Belarusian and Lithuanian Tatars). Full text linkThe analysis included in the article concerns the wishes posted on company profiles on Facebook. The considerations begin with the description of wishes as a speech act that has ritual, etiquette-related and phatic functions. Next, the article discusses the role of social media in communication in the public relations area, particularly as a tool to contact customers. One of the ways of establishing this contact is extendingwishes on a company fan page. This is another stage of the evolution of the speech act in question. The analysis of companies’ wishes includes the description of the occasion for extending them, the content of the wishes, the relationship between the sender and the receiver and, in particular, the interaction that results from the very character of wishes as a speech act as well as from the opportunities provided by communication in social media.The analysis included in the article concerns the wishes posted on company profiles on Facebook. Full text linkThe article provides the characteristics and classification of the most frequentative verbs and verb phrases used in contemporary Silesian literature. It has been established that the largest number of the studied forms is related to the different ways people physically influence the reality that surrounds them and mental processes (i.e. cognitive, evaluative and descriptive ones). The lexical diversity between Polish standard lexis and Silesian literary usage amounts to fifty-eight percent. What influences this diversity is the presence of words of German and Czech origin which amount to almost a tenth of the Silesian lexicon. Slightly less than half of the verbs are derived forms, in the vast majority formed through prefixation, aspect suffixation and postfixation. The semantic and morphological structure of the studied verb forms demonstrates a farreaching intellectualisation and formal complexity of the Silesian lexicon.The article provides the characteristics and classification of the most frequentative verbs and verb phrases used in contemporary Silesian literature. Full text linkThe fifteenth-century Latin manuscript presenting the proposal of Polish spelling formulated by Jakub Parkosz is an interesting challenge to the editors primarily because it introduces special characters that were not used later. The text of the treatise was presented and discussed in a book by Marian Kucała (available under open licence) which was used as the basis for an experimental electronic edition of the treatise in the form of an interactive PDF file, also available as a LuaLaTeX source. For transliteration, the electronic edition uses the existing Unicode letters with some additions from the private use area of the Medieval Unicode Font Initiative. Full text linkThe authors emphasize the importance of language diagnosis of children raised in bi- or multiculturalism in early identification of developmental disorders. In the diagnostic process, they distinguish between skills independent of culture and those culturally (environmentally) conditioned, like the language system. They discuss the causes of speech development delays from a neurobiological and social (environmental) perspective.
