Using Machine Learning for Identifying COVID-19
In late December 2019, an outbreak of the novel coronavirus, known as COVID-19, originated in Wuhan, China, ultimately evolving into a global pandemic. This study focuses on the application of two distinct machine learning approaches to predict COVID-19 presence in individuals. The dataset employed for analysis was obtained from clients who sought medical attention at Israelita Albert Einstein Hospital in São Paulo, Brazil. During their hospital visits, samples were collected for COVID-19 and additional laboratory tests. Specifically, we utilized supervised learning techniques, namely multilayer perceptron and random forest, to conduct our analysis. The performance of these models was evaluated using the Area under the ROC Curve (AUC), resulting in respective AUC values of 97% and 92.4% for multilayer perceptron and random forest methods

Role of Media in Promoting Environment Protection during Smog Crisis in Lahore
Climate change has become the most alarming threat to all forms of life on earth. As a result of it, changing weather patterns like heat waves, storms, drought, and rising oceans are witnessed in Pakistan as well. Lahore is among the cities that are highly affected by smog with the highest air quality index (AQI) that is considered not only UNHEALTHY but harmful as decreasing the average age of residents of the city. This situation calls all relevant sections of society including mass media to play their needful role as media is an agent of social change. Awareness is a key towards solution. This study attempts to explore the role of newspapers in creating awareness about smog in 2016 and 2017. Main objective of this study is to examine the policy of newspapers with regards to covering issues related to environment and applying solution based journalistic techniques on environment protection. Using Framing theory as a theoretical foundation, Quantitative content analysis of editorials of two widely circulated national dailies of Pakistan, Dawn and The News are conducted. Findings show that environmental issues are not given sufficient coverage in selected newspapers. Although newspapers tried to maintain the balance of using generic and issue specific framing schemes while writing on environment issues, smog has been covered with issue specific frame only. The smog issue has been marginalized and is discussed only during crises. Editorials, although apply solution-based journalism. The Pakistan Climate Change Act 2017 is not played up in editorials. No significant difference in coverage of environmental issues in the selected newspapers was found with regards to policy. The study recommends a robust communication awareness plan be devised on a regular basis rather than highlighting issue during crisi

Media conformity with foreign policy in India and Pakistan: Frame analysis of Baluchistan separatists movement and Khalistan movement
India and Pakistan are indulged in multiple mutual disputes which motivates their respective Medias to frame certain conflicts according to their ongoing foreign policies. This research focuses on conflict framing in India and Pakistan’s print media coverage of Baluchistan separatists movement (in Pakistan) and Khalistan movement (in India) to analyze the cross border framing trends on both sides. This study aims at identifying the counter narrative framing of rival country’s internal conflict through framing and media’s conformity with the foreign policies of their respective governments. Content of the 3439 news stories from four English dailies; Times of India, The Hindu from India and Dawn and The Nation from Pakistan, during the rule of rightwing political parties (2014-2018) in India and Pakistan; PJP and PML-N, was analyzed through ‘conflict frame’. The researcher found that both sides adopted counter coverage approach in covering the Baluchistan separatist movement and Khalistan movement. If Pakistani media gives coverage of Khalistan movement in Indian Punjab, the Indian media, on the other hand, counter the coverage by plying-up the news of Baluchistan separatists movements in Pakistan and vice versa. The study concludes that both countries’ rightwing political parties targeted the sensitive internal conflicts and built propaganda in counter coverage
Automatic Topology Generation in Wireless Networks using Artificial Intelligence
The wireless devices are capable to govern transmission in portable mode. The development of effective networking techniques requires additional protocol stacks of network research, which is the heart of the network model. In this work, we reviewed our previously designed algorithm TEAM for the generation of topologies automatically using artificial intelligence for present and future wireless networks. We conclude this study with the future challenges of applying AI to Wireless 5G networks. Artificial intelligence algorithm is based on a design that best routing solution involves changes in the environment, it is very likely that it is simply spending some time will be in the study. The proposed algorithm is tested in MATLAB by varying the iteration and number of nodes in a network. Our algorithm is flexible so that its cost in the sense of topology generation reduces gradually as the number of nodes in the wireless environment will increase
IoT-AI Based Air Quality and Hazardous Gases Advisory System to Mitigate Effect of Climate Change on Public Health
Today, air pollution has become a major concern lowering the average life expectancy [1], causing a wide range of diseases including stroke, heart disease, lung cancer, and both chronic and acute respiratory diseases, including asthma [2]. In Pakistan, the hazards of noxious gases contamination have been reported throughout the country leading to a high number of casualties, specifically heater/car/indoor gas contamination-related deaths [3], the release of toxic industrial gas into the environment (more than 300 people reported sudden difficulty in breathing and several deaths in south Karachi in 2020 due to gas leakage from industry [4][5]). Such concerns are not only a threat to human life but also not complying with UN sustainable development goals and also impacting the ecosystem. In this study, we proposed the design solution and a working prototype based on a low-cost life-saving IoT gadget in combination with an AI-enabled mobile app to cope with the existing problem of airborne diseases, life-threatening contamination of hazardous gases and to mitigate climatic change related to Air Pollution. The gadget contains sensors to detect air pollutants including fine particulate matter (PM2.5, PM10), Carbon Dioxide (CO2), Sulphur, Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2), Flammable hazardous gases like Methane (CH₄), and LPG Gases (hydrocarbons), and life-endangering Carbon Monoxide (CO) and Smoke along with basic humidity, temperature and air pressure in real-time, buzzer for an alarm in case of hazardous gas crossing the threshold, integrated WiFi module for data replication to the database (Firebase) and colorful TFT screen to display the real-time measurements of air quality and other pollutants. On the backend, the real-time data from the gadget is logged into the cloud-based database, where a machine learning algorithm, ‘Random Forest’, is deployed and performs the task of air quality prediction for the next few hours. Our solution with mobile application aims to target the public healthcare and abrupt climatic change effect where GUI assist users with recommendations, public alerts, and possible solutions for prevention
Central Bank Independence and Inflation – Output Variability Tradeoff
Global evidences show major swing towards autonomy of central banks, Theory and practice show that autonomous central banks are sufficient to maintain low and stable inflation, not due to political inclinations. Our results suggest that the level of independent and discretionary monetary policy is low, Pakistan’s central bank is not proficient enough to sustain low and stable inflation. In this paper, the central bank independence index is updated up to the year 2021; the monetary authority’s preference parameter is calculated to find gain or loss to the economy caused by the value of central bank independence through inflation-output variability trade-off. In doing so, correlation, OLS Regression, and ADF Unit Root Tests are used to check statistical significance
