    AI tools and academic performance: engagement and motivation in social sciences education

    This study aims to examine the role of advanced AI tools, such as ChatGPT, on student’s academic performance. Additionally, it investigates the mediating role of student’s engagement and motivation in the relationship between AI tools and Academic performance in the department of Social Sciences Education at State University of Yogyakarta. This study has adopted a quantitative approach and has collected data from 52 undergraduate students enrolled in specified sample. Data analysis was conducted using SPSS. The findings indicate that AI tools significantly correlated with academic performance (r = 0.717, p < .01), while also  also showing positive correlation with student engagement (r = 0.692, p < .01) and motivation ( r = 0.658, p < 0.01). Furthermore, it improves comprehension of students, and provides self-directed learning. However, concern regarding over-reliance on AI is also identified, particularly its potential impact on critical thinking. This study highlights the importance of responsible AI integration, emphasizing the need to create balance between AI-driven learning and traditional methods. Educational Institutions must develop strategies that maintain student’s critical thinking and analytical skills while using AI tools. As a researcher, I believe the findings can assist institutions and instructors in implementing AI technologies into teaching practices in way that enhances academic performance, engagement, and motivation, while still fostering autonomous and critical thinking among students

    Development of wordwall educational games based on Peo-Heda local wisdom to improve children's social skills

    This research aims to develop the GAULL (Wordwall Educational Game) Puzzle Application, based on the local culture of Woe Are "PEO–HEDA", as an educational medium that can improve early childhood social skills. The study's background reveals that children's social skills, particularly in terms of cooperation, empathy, communication, and conflict resolution, remain relatively low. In fact, these social values are the foundation of children's social development, and interaction through collaborative play can accelerate the development of social cooperation. This research employs the R&D method, utilising the ADDIE model, which encompasses the stages of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The subjects of the study were 22 children aged 5–6 years at Satap SDK Olabolo Kindergarten, Golewa District, Ngada Regency. Application development is carried out using the Wordwall platform, which incorporates puzzle games to support contextual learning. The results of the material expert's validation gave a score of 32 (in the very feasible category), while the media expert and design expert gave scores of 40.5, which also indicate very high feasibility. These results suggest that GAULL fulfils the technical and pedagogical aspects as a learning medium that is in accordance with the characteristics of early childhood social development. Findings in the field show that the use of GAULL has a positive impact on improving children's social skills. Children exhibit more active interaction when sharing, participating in group tasks, and demonstrating empathy and cooperation while using the GAULL application

    Deres Temple: a hidden gem for optimizing social studies learning

    Deres Temple is a historical testament to the journey of Majapahit in East Java. Although not as famous as the others, Deres Temple is a valuable investment for social science learning. Located in the Gumuk Mas sub-district, several schools serve as educational institutions. Deres Temple serves as empirical evidence for social science learning, particularly regarding kingdoms in the archipelago. As an effort to bridge theoretical concepts, Deres Temple's existence is growing. The potential of Deres Temple is explored based on the spirit of intellectual values, which are integrated into discussions of student curiosity and the preservation of Deres Temple. With knowledge, teachers can explore Deres Temple's potential as a teaching medium that is easily accessible to students. Deres Temple's potential is explored for educational purposes. The subjects of this study were students of Gumuk Mas Junior High School. Thus, Deres Temple is very representative for exploring its potential to achieve learning objectives. This study used a descriptive qualitative approach. Data collection was carried out through participatory observation, interviews, and documentation. The data obtained were analyzed in three stages. More than 80% of the students involved showed active participation by asking questions related to Candi Deres. This paper contributes to the field by demonstrating how Deres Temple can be integrated as an accessible, context-based learning resource that enhances student curiosity and supports social science education through active engagement with local historical heritage

    Evaluation of the Environmental Chemistry Course Using the CIPP Model: Integrating SDGs and Enhancing Students' Environmental Literacy

    This study evaluates the alignment of the curriculum with national policies and global environmental challenges, assesses the availability of resources and teaching strategies, and measures students' learning outcomes in cognitive, affective, and behavioral dimensions. Using a mixed-methods approach within the CIPP (Context, Input, Process, and Product) evaluation model, the study involved the program chair, two-course instructors, and 26 students from a public university in Aceh. Research instruments included questionnaires, observation sheets, interview guides, and test items. The findings indicate that the curriculum is relevant to global issues and supports the development of students' critical thinking skills. However, limited laboratory facilities, insufficient funding, and a lack of support for environment-based projects pose significant challenges to optimal curriculum implementation. Additionally, the program effectively enhances students' understanding of global environmental issues and their relevance to the SDGs but requires stronger integration of practical applications and explicit connections to SDG targets. Recommendations include project-based learning innovations, cross-sector collaborations, and improvements in facilities and funding to holistically enhance students' environmental literacy and prepare them as sustainability change agents.

    Pengaruh Model Pembelajaran REACT Terhadap Kemampuan Komunikasi Matematis Siswa

    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh model pembelajaran REACT terhadap kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa. Populasi pada penelitian ini adalah 192 siswa kelas VIII salah satu SMP Negeri di Bandar Lampung semester genap tahun pelajaran 2024/2025 yang terdistribusi dalam tujuh kelas. Pengambilan sampel dilakukan dengan teknik purposive sampling, sehingga terpilih siswa kelas VIII-4 sebanyak 27 siswa sebagai kelas eksperimen dan siswa kelas VIII-1 sebanyak 26 siswa sebagai kelas kontrol. Desain penelitian yang digunakan adalah posttest-only control group design. Data penelitian ini berupa data kuantitatif yang diperoleh dari tes kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian diperoleh bahwa kemapuan komunikasi matematis siswa yang mengikuti pembelajaran dengan model pembelajaran REACT lebih tinggi daripada kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa yang mengikuti pembelajaran konvensional. Berdasarkan hal tersebut, dapat disimpulkan bahwa pembelajaran dengan model pembelajaran REACT berpengaruh terhadap kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa

    Membangun Keterampilan Berpikir Kritis Melalui Trigonometri Analitik dengan Pendekatan Kurikulum Merdeka

    Peningkatan keterampilan berpikir kritis merupakan salah satu tujuan utama dalam pendidikan, terutama dalam penerapan kurikulum merdeka. Artikel ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji peran trigonometri analitik dalam membangun keterampilan berpikir kritis siswa. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode studi literatur, mengumpulkan data dari berbagai sumber seperti jurnal yang relevan. Analisis dilakukan melalui sintesis informasi untuk menggali hubungan antara trigonometri analitik dan keterampilan berpikir kritis melalui kurikulum merdeka. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa trigonometri analitik efektif dalam mengembangkan kemampuan berpikir logis dan analitis siswa. Kesimpulannya, penerapan trigonometri analitik dalam kurikulum merdeka dapat memperkuat keterampilan berpikir kritis, yang penting untuk kesuksesan akademik dan kehidupan sehari-hari. Penelitian selanjutnya diharapkan dapat mengembangkan pendekatan implementasi yang lebih aplikatif

    Pengaruh Penggunaan Media Komik dengan Model Discovery Learning terhadap Kemampuan Berpikir Kritis Siswa

    Penelitian eksperimen ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penggunaan media komik dengan model discovery learning terhadap kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa. Populasi penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas VIII di salah satu SMP Negeri di Bandar Lampung tahun pelajaran 2024/2025 sebanyak 266 siswa yang terdistribusi ke dalam 9 kelas. Sampel penelitian ini terdiri dari satu kelas kontrol dan satu kelas eksperimen, yang dipilih dengan teknik purposive random sampling. Penelitian ini menggunakan pretest-posttest control group design dengan instrumen pengumpulan data berupa tes berbentuk uraian. Uji yang digunakan adalah uji nonparametrik berupa Mann-Whitney U karena asumsi normalitas tidak terpenuhi. Hasil analisis uji Mann-Whitney Uyaitu 24,33. Hasil uji analisis data menunjukkan bahwa median data peningkatan skor kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa yang mengikuti model discovery learning dengan media komik lebih dari siswa yang mengikuti model discovery learning tanpa media komik

    Efektivitas Pendekatan Kontekstual Bermuatan Kearifan Lokal terhadap Hasil Belajar Matematika Siswa

    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis keefektifan pendekatan kontekstual bermuatan kearifan lokal  terhadap hasil belajar matematika. Jenis penelitian ini yaitu penelitian kuantitatif menggunakan quasi eksperimen dengan posttest-only control group desain. Populasi penelitian terdiri dari siswa kelas VIII di salah satu SMPN di Karangjati. Teknik pengambilan sampel menggunakan cluster random sampling. Untuk mengetahui keefektifan pendekatan kontekstual berdistribusi normal atau tidak, dilakukan uji normalitas menggunakan metode Liliefors.  Uji homogenitas menggunakan uji Fisher dengan taraf signifikan α = 0.05. Sedangkan uji hipotesis menggunakan uji t meliputi uji kesamaan rata-rata pada kelas eksperimen. Dari perhitungan uji t dengan taraf signifikan 5% diperoleh t hitung = 6.202, dan t tabel = 1.670, maka t hitung > t tabel sehingga H0 ditolak. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pendekatan kontekstual bermuatan kearifan lokal lebih efektif dalam meningkatkan hasil belajar matematika siswa kelas VIII

    Students' Mathematical Reflective Thinking Ability with Guided Discovery Learning on Pythagorean Theorem Material

    This study aims to determine the effect of the guided discovery learning model on students' mathematical reflective thinking ability. The population in this study were all 8th grade students in one of the schools in Lampung in the 2024/2025 academic year as many as 287 students distributed into 9 classes. The sample in this study took two classes totaling 29 and 27 students respectively which were selected using a cluster random sampling technique. The design used was posttest only control group design. The data collection technique used was a test technique with an instrument in the form of a 4-item mathematical reflective thinking ability test question sheet. Based on the results of the normality test and homogeneity test, it was found that the posttest data from the two groups were normally distributed and homogeneous. Furthermore, the hypothesis test using the independent sample t-test test showed that the mathematical reflective thinking ability of students who followed the guided discovery learning model was higher than the mathematical reflective thinking ability of students who followed the direct instruction model. Therefore, it can be concluded that the guided discovery learning model affects students' mathematical reflective thinking ability

    Pembelajaran Berkelanjutan dengan Inkuiri Terbimbing Berbasis Multiple Representation terhadap Pemahaman Konsep dan Efikasi Diri

    Pendidikan yang berkualitas saat ini telah menjadi program pemerintahan yang terus diupayakan. Pengupayaan tersebut dilakukan untuk mencapai peningkatan pendidikan yang berkualitas. Maka, tujuan penelitian: memberikan gambaran mengenai seberapa pentingnya upaya dalam meningkatkan kualitas pendidikan melalui penelitian apakah terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan terhadap pemahaman konsep dan efikasi diri peserta didik pada pembelajaran laju reaksi menggunakan inkuiri terbimbing berbasis multiple representation dan saintifik; serta berapa persen sumbangan efektif pembelajaran inkuiri terbimbing berbasis multiple representation terhadap pemahaman konsep dan efikasi diri peserta didik SMA pada materi laju reaksi. Jenis penelitian quasi eksperimen dengan metode Posttest-Only Control Design. Jumlah sampel yaitu 68 peserta didik kelompok XI di salah satu SMA Negeri di Kaimana, dipilih menggunakan teknik random sampling. Jumlah peserta didik kelompok eksperimen dan kontrol masing-masing 34 peserta didik. Teknik MANOVA digunakan untuk menganalisis perbedaan pemahaman konsep dan efikasi diri peserta didik serta mengetahui persen pengaruh, sedangkan analisis deskriptif kuantitatf digunakan untuk menganalisis profil pemahaman konsep dan efikasi diri peserta didik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan terdapat perbedaan signifikan pada pembelajaran laju reaksi yaitu terhadap pemahaman konsep dan efikasi diri pada hasil belajar peserta didik yang menggunakan model pembelajaran inkuiri terbimbing berbasis multiple representation dan model pembelajaran saintifik; serta sumbangan efektif penggunaan model pembelajaran inkuiri terbimbing berbasis multiple representation terhadap pemahaman konsep dan efikasi diri peserta didik pada materi laju reaksi sebesar 36,9%
