Antifungal Activity Test of The Aqueous and Ethanolic Extracts of Strawberry Leaves Against Absidia corymbifera

    No full text
Absidia corymbifera is an opportunistic fungal pathogen that can cause serious infections, particularly in immunocompromised individuals. However, studies on natural antifungal agents effective against this species remain limited. This study investigates the antifungal activity of strawberry (Fragaria spp.) leaf extracts as a potential natural treatment against A. corymbifera. Aqueous and ethanol extracts were prepared using cold extraction methods—blending and maceration, respectively. Strawberry leaf extract was subjected to a qualitative phytochemical screening test and a quantitative total phenolic content test using the Folin-Ciocalteu method, then an antifungal activity test was carried out using the diffusion method. Phytochemical screening revealed the presence of tannins, flavonoids, and alkaloids in the aqueous extract, while the ethanol extract contained tannins, flavonoids, and steroids. The total phenolic content of ethanol extract of strawberry leaves is greater than that of strawberry leaf aqueous extract. Aqueous and ethanol extracts of strawberry leaves showed fungistatic antifungal inhibition against A. corymbifera with a larger inhibitory zone diameter in strawberry leaf ethanol extract. These findings suggest that strawberry leaf extracts, particularly ethanol-based, hold promise as a natural antifungal agent for controlling infections caused by A. corymbifera

This research aims to reflect on citizenship campaigns as a means of community civics to strengthen civic engagement through a qualitative approach and phenomenological methods. Participant reflections emphasize how civic engagement manifests in civic activity and political voice through community civics, particularly concerning the socio-cultural dimensions of civic education, which align with the goals of fostering smart and good citizenship. Civic activity is associated with philanthropic movements, while political voice relates closely to political aspirations aimed at influencing policy. This reflection on citizenship campaigns serves as a channel for community civics, enhancing civic engagement in the form of both civic activity and political voice related to the public good and public interest. Campaigns can act as tools for persuasion and the dissemination of ideas that promote the development of citizen attributes. Furthermore, this study enriches the understanding of civic communication which is intrinsically linked to how citizens behave, engage, and participate in civic issues relating to the meaning of aspects of communication and use of media

Religious moderation: Muhammadiyah inclusivism and syncretic Islam in Javanese culture in Yogyakarta

Differences in understanding between religions and cultures characterise the emergence of intolerance in society. These conditions can contribute to the breakdown of religious life and result in subjective interpretations of truth that disregard others' perspectives. The research method used a mixed method with a sequential exploratory model. Data collection techniques included interviews, observations, literature studies (qualitative), and questionnaires (quantitative). This study aims to reveal the dynamics of cultural da'wah, the process of Muhammadiyah internalisation, and the relationship between Muhammadiyah and syncretic Islam in shaping the value of tolerance in Yogyakarta. The results of the study show several things, namely 1) there are dynamics of cultural da'wah described by the concepts of hablumminallah and hablumminannas with examples of each entity's attitude towards the night of Suro; 2) there is involvement of each entity in Muhammadiyah activities with conservative teaching materials and adaptive methods, as demonstrated by the processes of acculturation, assimilation, and accommodation in each entity's religious activities; and 3) the phenomena observed in this case study illustrate the relationship between Muhammadiyah and Syncretic Islam in shaping the value of tolerance in Yogyakarta. The relationship between the two can fulfil the indicators of the active tolerance model by being able to coexist peacefully and strive to respect diversity

Religion and local culture: Pillars of social harmony in post-conflict Aceh

    Get PDF
The prolonged conflict between the Free Aceh Movement (GAM) and the Government of the Republic of Indonesia has resulted in social disruption, collective trauma, and the weakening of community social structures. Although a peace agreement was reached through the 2005 Helsinki Memorandum of Understanding, the greatest post-conflict challenge lies in rebuilding trust, solidarity, and social harmony. An interesting phenomenon is the success of Acehnese society in achieving social stability through internal strengths, particularly a strong Islamic religious approach and deeply rooted local culture. This article aims to analyze the contribution of religious and local cultural approaches in fostering post-conflict social harmony in Aceh. This study is qualitative in nature, using a descriptive-interpretative approach. Data collection techniques included in-depth interviews, document analysis, and surveys. Key informants consisted of religious leaders (ulama), traditional leaders, former GAM combatants, women leaders, youth, and village officials located in former conflict-affected regions such as Pidie, North Aceh, and Bireuen. Data analysis employed a thematic approach through data reduction, categorization, interpretation of findings, and inductive conclusion drawing. The findings show that religious approaches, through the active roles of ulama, religious gatherings (majelis taklim), and Islamic boarding schools (pesantren), have been effective in restoring faith-based values and community social ethics. Meanwhile, local cultural elements such as peusijuek (traditional blessing rituals), gampong deliberations, and customary village institutions have served as effective means of social reconciliation, strengthening community ties and resolving horizontal conflicts. The synergy between religious values and local wisdom has formed a strong social system for maintaining peace and preventing future conflicts. In conclusion, religious and local cultural approaches have proven to be fundamental pillars in creating sustainable social harmony in post-conflict Aceh. This model can serve as a strategic reference for other conflict-affected regions seeking to build peace through local potential

Liminal legality and delayed citizenship: The identity crisis of Indonesian migrant children in Sabah and Sarawak

    No full text
This article explores statelessness as a multidimensional problem that directly impacts access to education and civic identity, particularly in Asia and Europe. Around 10 million people worldwide are stateless, deprived of basic rights such as education, health and employment due to the absence of legal documents. In Malaysia, thousands of children from migrant communities and ethnic minorities such as the Rohingya and Filipinos in Sabah lack access to national schools and public services due to their legal status. Meanwhile, in Europe, historical legacies such as the breakup of the Soviet Union and structural discrimination mean that many children from groups such as the Roma are born stateless and excluded from the education system. This article highlights that formal policies, such as "Zero Reject", are not enough without political alignment and effective identification mechanisms. Through human rights-based approaches and cross-sectoral cooperation, the elimination of statelessness should be a priority agenda in global citizenship and education policies. This will not only guarantee individual rights, but also build the foundations of an inclusive, just and civilised society

    Get PDF
The optimization of the financial intermediation function is one of the primary goals of Law Number 4 of 2023. This regulation assigns a role to Islamic banking in carrying out intermediation, including financing. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the effects of Islamic banking financing on economic growth in Indonesia, using Novel Dynamic ARDL Simulation approach with time series data from 2009Q1 to 2022Q4. The results showed that work capital (WCP) and investment (INV) were significantly, positively, and dynamically related to economic growth (GDP) in the short and long terms, with consumption (CON) having a relevant and negative association. Policy simulation scenarios also proved that a 5% increase in WCP and INV encouraged GDP to the 20th quarter of the experimental year. In this context, the marginal impact of the variables sustained long-term economic growth in a positive trend after financing threshold point

The Effect of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Disclosure on Basic Material Company Financial Performance

    No full text
Recent research results still differ regarding the development of Environmental, Social, and Governance Disclosure (ESG). Some studies show a positive trend of ESG in recent years. On the other hand, some studies show that ESG performance has a negative influence on the financial performance of basic material sector companies. This contradiction in findings is the basis for the author to explore the effect of ESG disclosure on the financial performance of Basic Material Sector Companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) during the period 2021-2023. Out of a total of 103 companies in this sector, only 34 companies reported ESG consistently during the period. This study uses a simple linear regression analysis model with company financial performance in the form of Tobin's Q as the dependent variable and ESG value as the independent variable. The results show that ESG disclosure is proven to have a positive effect on the company's financial performance. This finding is consistent with Stakeholder theory that companies that disclose ESG tend to have better performance because these disclosures strengthen relationships with key stakeholders, such as investors, customers, and communities, which in turn increase market confidence and firm value
