School Principal Leadership in Enhancing Teacher Competence: A Qualitative Case Study in Merauke Secondary Schools
The quality of education is closely tied to the professional competencies of teachers, which in turn are influenced by the effectiveness of school leadership. While numerous studies have examined the role of principals in enhancing teacher performance, limited research has explored the contextual dynamics of leadership practices in Indonesian secondary schools, particularly in less-represented regions such as Merauke. This study investigates how principals at SMP IT Lukman Al Hakim and SMP Muhammadiyah Merauke employ leadership strategies to foster teacher professional development, with a particular emphasis on pedagogical, professional, and technological competencies. A qualitative descriptive design was adopted, involving in-depth interviews, document analysis, and observations with school principals, teachers, and administrative staff. Data were analyzed thematically to identify patterns of leadership practices, challenges encountered, and strategies for overcoming barriers. The findings reveal that both schools implement transformational leadership, albeit with different emphases. SMP IT prioritizes inclusive collaboration and reflective supervision, while SMP Muhammadiyah focuses on curriculum innovation and digital integration. Despite positive impacts, challenges persist, including limited time for continuous professional development, teacher readiness in adopting digital tools, and structural constraints within school management. The study concludes that leadership, when adaptive and contextually grounded, significantly enhances teacher competence and indirectly improves student outcomes. This research contributes to the literature by providing comparative insights into leadership practices in Indonesian junior secondary schools, offering both theoretical and practical implications for educational leadership and policy
Improving Appropriate Behaviour of a Student with Emotional and Behavioural Problems Through SWPBS and LST Collaboration
Support for students with emotional and behavioural problems (EBP) in Indonesia remains limited. This action research explores the use of School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) to improve student behaviour through collaboration among classroom teachers, subject teachers, special education teachers, school administrators, parents, and psychologists. The study involved 13 teachers and key school stakeholders working together as a learning support team to enhance the appropriate behaviours of a student with EBP. Data were collected through structured and informal teacher reflections and analysed using descriptive statistics.
Findings show that collaborative implementation of SWPBS increased the student’s appropriate behaviours and reduced inappropriate ones. Internalising behaviours, such as staying on task and avoiding distractions, reached 100% frequency, while externalising behaviours like physical disruptions dropped to 0%. Class cooperation and routine adherence also reached 100%. However, verbal engagement remained low, with 0% participation in discussions and 33–67% in other academic behaviours, indicating the need for continued support in this area.
Teachers reported using various strategies to foster a supportive classroom environment, including greeting the student (66.7%), maintaining a calm setting (40%), assisting with problem-solving (33.3%), and teaching emotional regulation (26.7%). Other strategies included adapted tasks, physical activity, leadership opportunities, and positive reinforcement. These findings highlight the effectiveness of teacher-driven, relationship-based strategies in supporting students with EBP. They also suggest implications for future educational policy, including the integration of social-emotional learning in teacher training and the inclusion of student wellbeing indicators in school practice to promote more inclusive and responsive educational environments
Analysis of Training Needs for Developing Teaching Modules Based on Didactical Situation Analysis
Pedagogic competence is one of the most important competencies that teachers must have because it is directly related to the ability to manage learning effectively. In Indonesia, this competency still needs to be improved, especially in terms of teacher motivation to develop themselves through training in order to create quality education that is oriented towards the future of students. This study aims to identify the gap between actual performance and desired performance of teachers in developing pedagogical competence, especially in the preparation of teaching modules based on didactical situation analysis. The approach used was a mixed-methods study with an unbalanced convergent model. Data were collected through interviews, document analysis, and questionnaires, then analyzed separately and compared. The results show that teachers still tend to fulfill administrative aspects in preparing teaching modules without considering the characteristics of students and the complexity of the material. Therefore, special training is needed so that teachers are able to optimally improve pedagogical competence through didactical situation analysis

Thus, the Lift The Flap Book INDORIA media becomes an innovative media and proven effective in improving student learning outcomes in learning Pancasila Education in grade IV elementary school
Educators’ Knowledge Transposition: the Algebra Devolution of Thinking
In mathematics learning, knowledge is in the form of meaning, and it is part of the transposition process so that it is situational and in the form of abstraction from the context of its use. The process begins with repersonalization (the process of mathematizing a mathematical concept as done by mathematicians) and recontextualization (provide a new mathematical context) so that it becomes knowledge that is a posteriori. The role of educators is so fundamental because it is related to the stages. This study is based on the hermeneutic phenomenology. Data collection is carried out in the form of documentation studies, observations, and reflective argumentative dialogue. The image of knowledge is collectively constructed, and the knowledge is emerged from conjoining understandings between educator and researcher. The educators’ experiences were traced from a reflective-argumentative dialogue to investigate what educators have done and what will be done in mathematics teaching practice. The researcher also examined the educators’ knowledge transposition in thinking algebraically. These were projected in three knowledge conceptions of educators' thinking process. There are at least five main issues revealed concerning knowledge for practice, knowledge in practice, and knowledge of practice. The transposition of educator knowledge becomes devolution of algebraic thinking from educators to students
Implementation of TBL with constructivist and discovery learning approaches to enhance eco-literacy of homeschooling students
The escalating ecological crisis demands an immediate educational response, especially for younger generations. Eco-literacy, the ability to understand ecological systems, think critically about environmental issues, and adopt responsible behaviors, needs to be cultivated early through contextual and transformative learning. This study explores the implementation of a Technology-Based Learning (TBL) model, grounded in constructivist and discovery approaches, to enhance eco-literacy among homeschooling students aged 10–13 years. Using a descriptive qualitative case study, three homeschooling students and two parents at Rumah Ulin, a family-based learning environment integrating ecological values and digital technology, participated as informants. Data were collected retrospectively through participant observation, semi-structured interviews, student reflections, and documentation of prior learning activities. Findings show significant development in four eco-literacy dimensions: ecological awareness (recognition of human–environment relationships), environmental knowledge (understanding of concepts and issues), ecological attitudes (care, responsibility, and commitment to sustainability), and ecological actions (environmentally friendly practices such as reducing plastic use and managing waste). These results demonstrate that technology-based, learner-centered strategies can foster meaningful ecological understanding in non-formal contexts. Future research with larger, more diverse participants and longitudinal designs is recommended to strengthen generalizability and assess long-term impacts
Navigating cross-cultural classrooms: Adaptation experiences of Indonesian ISMA students abroad
This qualitative study employed a narrative-based thematic analysis to explore the adaptation experiences of five Indonesian ISMA students studying abroad. Drawing on participants’ reflective narratives, the study identified five major themes: Initial Cultural Shock, Academic Adjustment, Language Barriers and Opportunities, Social Integration, and Personal Growth and Reflection. Findings reveal that students initially faced cultural, academic, and social disorientation as they navigated unfamiliar educational systems, classroom dynamics, and intercultural norms. However, these early challenges gradually evolved into opportunities for meaningful learning, cross-cultural engagement, and personal transformation. The adaptation process was found to be dynamic and multidimensional, shaped by emotional resilience, social integration, and reflective self-awareness. The study concludes that studying abroad is not merely an academic pursuit but a transformative journey that fosters intercultural competence, self-efficacy, and global-mindedness among Indonesian students
Community participation in the Equality Education Program at PKBN Sultan Thaha Saipudin, Tebo Regency
The equality education program is one of the important efforts to increase access to education for people who cannot participate in formal education. In Tebo Regency, especially in PKBM Sultan Thaha Saipudin, community participation plays a strategic role in the success of this program. However, community involvement in various aspects of implementation still needs to be increased so that the goal of equality education can be achieved optimally. This research aims to identify forms of community participation in equality education programs and government strategies in supporting their implementation. The method used in this study is a qualitative approach with data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation studies. Data were analyzed descriptively to illustrate the overall form of community participation and government support. The results of the study show that community participation in PKBM Sultan Thaha Saipudin is not only in the form of financial support, but also in the form of providing facilities and infrastructure, taking advantage of programs, and providing constructive ideas and suggestions. The Aburan Batang Tebo Village Government actively allocates a budget for skills training and business capital for the community that participates in the program. In addition, cooperation with the Education Office, the PMD Office, and the business and industry world provides significant technical training and support. Democratic process in Pakistan: causes of failure and development
Pakistan's strategic significance in the global arena, especially in the aftermath of the September 11 attacks, stands in stark contrast to the ongoing political turbulence that has characterised the nation for decades. The intricate political landscape is primarily influenced by entrenched military and bureaucratic forces, overshadowing the aspirations for genuine democratic governance. This dynamic has led to a climate of persistent unrest, where the struggle between democratic ideals and authoritarian practices manifests in numerous ways. Historically, Pakistan has experienced a tumultuous back-and-forth between democracy and authoritarianism, resulting in a fragmented political structure that coups and the frequent replacement of leadership have marred. These disruptions have led to a lack of cohesive political consensus, a disregard for constitutional principles, and ineffective electoral mechanisms—all of which have severely undermined the foundations of democracy in the country. The military's intervention in politics has been a recurring theme, with significant coups occurring in 1958, 1969, 1977, and 1999. Each of these episodes ushered in periods of military rule that, while sometimes resulting in short-term economic growth and a semblance of political unity, paradoxically bred deeper authoritarian tendencies and stifled democratic progress. As a result, the nation has struggled with fragmented political factions and escalating violence, which now pose significant threats to its stability. These issues reflect the deep-rooted challenges within Pakistan's political system, making it a complex and often unstable landscape
