Design and Simulation of Carbon Steel-based Band Saw Frame
Frame design is an important factor in ensuring optimal performance of the band saw machine due to the dynamic loads that occur during the cutting process. This study discusses the design and simulation of a band saw machine with a focus on the analysis of the strength and stability of the machine frame using carbon steel with varying thicknesses, namely 1 mm, 2 mm, and 3 mm. Simulations were performed using finite element analysis (FEA)-based software to evaluate the stress, deformation, and safety factors of each variation of steel thickness. The simulation results show that material thickness has a significant effect on the frame's ability to withstand loads. Carbon steel with a thickness of 3 mm has the best structural performance in terms of stiffness and resistance to deformation, while steel with a thickness of 1 mm shows greater deformation at the same load. Thus, choosing the right thickness is very important to ensure the efficiency and durability of the band saw machine in industrial applications

Digital maturity models and instruments for vocational high schools in Indonesia
Research on digital maturity models in education, particularly vocational education, remains limited, despite the urgent need for schools to adapt to digital transformation. Vocational High Schools (SMK) in Indonesia are mandated to prepare graduates as skilled workers ready to meet industry demands, and therefore require a clear framework to assess their digital readiness. This study aims to develop a model and an instrument to measure the digital maturity level of vocational schools. The research employed a literature review of existing digital maturity models from both education and industry, followed by synthesis and adaptation to the vocational school context. The resulting model consists of five dimensions: strategy and organization, people and culture, products and services, technology and infrastructure, and organizational operations. It defines five levels of maturity: not ready, initial readiness, medium readiness, mature readiness, and fully applied. An instrument with 29 indicators was developed and tested through a pilot study in one vocational school, with results showing strong validity and reliability (Cronbach’s Alpha = 0.935). The findings highlight the inclusion of the products and services dimension as a novel contribution compared to existing educational models. This model and instrument provide practical benefits for vocational school leaders to assess current digital maturity, identify areas for improvement, and plan targeted digital transformation strategies. The study also opens avenues for future research through larger-scale validation and integration of field observations
Evaluating English coursebooks for Indonesian vocational schools: A SQRAR-based material analysis in the EFL context
English learning materials play a pivotal role in supporting vocational high school (SMK) students in acquiring language competencies relevant to both academic progression and workplace demands. This study evaluates the quality, relevance, and pedagogical suitability of government-issued English coursebooks for Grades 10, 11, and 12 used in Indonesian vocational schools. Employing the SQRAR (Structure, Quality, Relevance, Appropriateness, and Readability) evaluation framework, expert reviewers in English language teaching assessed the coursebooks based on content organization, contextual alignment, linguistic features, and usability. The findings show that while the materials generally align with the national curriculum, several aspects require enhancement—particularly in integrating vocationally contextualized content, improving readability, and strengthening task authenticity. The study highlights the need for systematic revisions and adaptive learning resources that better reflect the linguistic, professional, and communicative needs of vocational students. Recommendations include embedding workplace discourse, incorporating industry-relevant tasks, and enriching multimodal resources to ensure that English materials more effectively support students’ future employability in diverse vocational fields
A needs analysis of mobile game-based learning media for visual communication design in Padang vocational schools
This study aims to reveal the need for mobile game-based learning media (MGBLM) in the visual communication design (VCD) subject in vocational high schools. This study employs a quantitative descriptive approach using a survey administered to two groups of respondents: 12 VCD teachers and 255 students from 12 public and private vocational high schools in Padang during the odd semester of the 2024/2025 academic year. Data were collected via a Likert-scale questionnaire and analyzed descriptively, with percentages reported. The study results indicate a high level of need: 96% of teachers and 94% of students rated the integration of MGBLM in the VCD learning process as very high. The study also found that teachers fully agree that mobile-based learning media should align with curriculum objectives and support student engagement through interactive visual learning. Similarly, more than 90% of students agreed or strongly agreed that they needed mobile game-based learning media that suited their learning styles and supported independent and enjoyable VCD learning. These findings emphasize the importance of developing mobile game-based learning media tailored to the needs of vocational high school students, especially in creative subjects such as visual communication design. These results serve as a foundation for further development of educational media using structured models such as Hanafin and Peck. This study is unique because it explicitly maps the needs for mobile game-based learning in the VCD subject, an area that has been rarely explored in Indonesian vocational schools
