CHARACTERISTICS OF HARDNESS AND MICROSTRUCTURE OF RECYCLED PISTONS MANUFACTURED BY SAND CASTING PROCESS

Motorcycle piston waste, made from aluminum, is often poorly managed despite its advantages in corrosion resistance and thermal conductivity. This study aims to enhance the economic value of piston waste through recycling using the sand casting method. The melting process was conducted at a temperature of 843°C, followed by casting into sand molds. The recycled product is intended for use as a ship propeller component. Tests performed included Vickers hardness testing and microstructural analysis to evaluate the mechanical properties and material characteristics. The results showed that the recycled material exhibited an average hardness of 77.2 kg/mm², consistent with standard aluminum hardness. Microstructural analysis revealed the presence of porosity which may affect mechanical strength; however, this porosity did not reduce the material's resistance to mechanical damage and provided good toughness. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that motorcycle piston waste recycled by sand casting at 843 °C has potential for use in manufacturing high-value components such as ship propellers, considering the hardness quality and microstructural characteristics of the material

This study proposes a Prescriptive Maintenance (RxM) framework aimed at improving the Physical Availability (PA) of Komatsu Dump Trucks HD785-7 operated under a Full Maintenance Contract (FMC) at PT ABC Site Sangkulirang. The research integrates the DMAIC methodology with the Knowledge Discovery in Databases (KDD) process to systematically analyze operational failures. Historical breakdown data were preprocessed and modeled using a Naïve Bayes (NB) classifier, selected for its robustness in handling categorical features common in maintenance records. The model demonstrated high predictive performance with 97.93% accuracy, 100% precision, 94.12% recall, and an AUC of 0.995, indicating strong reliability in distinguishing high-risk conditions. The RxM framework was embedded into daily maintenance planning and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), supported by a monitoring dashboard for continuous feedback and retraining. As a result, the proportion of Breakdown Unscheduled (BUS) events decreased from 45% in 2024 to 26% in mid-2025, while fleet PA consistently exceeded the contractual target of 92%, reaching 95.5%. These findings confirm that embedding prescriptive analytics into maintenance workflows not only reduces unplanned downtime but also enhances resource allocation and decision-making. The case study highlights the practical value of combining statistical learning with structured process improvement to drive digital transformation in mining operations

Mode Choice and Spatial Distribution of Coal Transport in Jambi, Indonesia

Coal is an important commodity for Jambi Province. Based on data from the Central Bureau of Statistics, in the first quarter of 2022, the value of coal exports reached 10.75% of the total export value. Apart from being exported, coal commodity is also used for domestic purposes. The transport used at this time is only through public roads. The use of these routes results in many problems such as traffic accidents, congestion, and social conflicts. Therefore, the number of vehicles allowed to pass on public roads is limited. This has resulted in the production target plan not being achieved, only 17.3 million tonnes out of 40 million tonnes in 2022. Hence the need for other routes for transport such as rivers, special roads, and railways. This research is intended to analyse coal transport trips using trucks, barges and railways. This research discusses the closest route, mode selection, and transport costs based on the distance travelled and the travel time of each mode. The search for the closest travel route is done by spatial analysis with Network Analyst on ArcGIS. Mode choice was analysed using the multinomial logit method. Meanwhile, transport costs are calculated based on the principle of generalised cost. Modelling results on the selection of mode, during the rainy season the most efficient mode is barging with a selected probability of 44%, while rail 28% and transport by truck 27%. During the dry season, the probability of transport by railway is 93%, barge 4% and truck 3%. The results indicate that the most efficient mode during the rainy season is barging and during the dry season transport by railway

In the context of rapid urbanization, green open spaces (GOS) serve as strategic social arenas for urban communities. This study aims to analyze land-use conversion in the development of Central Park Meikarta and how Cikarang residents respond to its presence. Using a qualitative approach and descriptive method, the analysis applies Henri Lefebvre’s Theory of the Production of Space. Data were collected through interviews, observations, literature review, and documentation. The findings reveal that the conversion of residential land into a public-commercial GOS reflects a space production process shaped by economic interests. This transformation affects spatial usage patterns and social relations among the surrounding community. Despite the underlying capitalist motives, residents perceive ecological and social benefits from the GOS, such as recreational areas and spaces for interaction. Public acceptance is shaped by the interplay between spatial function, social experience, and the perceived utility of the space in everyday life

Drug trafficking and substance abuse represent significant challenges, particularly in regions highly vulnerable to these issues. Pulau Negara, identified as a drug-prone area within Hulu Sungai Selatan Regency, frequently experiences incidents of illicit drug trafficking and abuse. The persistence of these drug-related activities can be attributed to the community's insufficient social resilience. This study aims to (1) analyze the current state of social resilience in Pulau Negara; (2) identify the multilevel vulnerability factors contributing to this issue; and (3) propose strategies to enhance the community's resilience against drug-related threats. The findings reveal that social resilience in Pulau Negara is critically weak, influenced by a range of vulnerabilities at the individual, family, and community levels. Key factors include economic pressures, peer influence, unstable family structures, and a lack of supportive community infrastructure. The proposed strategies adopt a comprehensive approach, encouraging collaboration among stakeholders such as local authorities, law enforcement, and community leaders to build a more resilient social framework. By addressing these vulnerabilities holistically, the recommended interventions aim to reduce the community's susceptibility to drug-related activities and promote sustainable social resilience
