EFFECTIVE PARENTING STRATEGIES FOR INSECURITY IN NORTHERN NIGERIA: COUNSELLING IMPLICATION
The issue of insecurity in recent years is one of the challenges bedeviling Nigeria especially in the northern part of the country. A day hardly passes without one hearing of an attack by armed groups in Nigeria that result in loss of life, properties, businesses, means of livelihood, displacement of people from their homes and communities and disruption of children education. Despite efforts put in place by government to forestall future attacks by these insurgences, the issue of insecurity is still on the increase. More worrisome is the number of children joining these groups. Past media reports, policy reports, newspapers, and academicliterature were reviewed in this paper. The paper examined parenting as a contributing factor to insecurity in Nigeria and focused on effective parenting strategies as a means of forestalling insecurity in Nigeria with particular reference to the North. Also discussed in this paper is concept of parenting and effective parenting, insecurity, parenting strategies in cubing insecurity and the counselling implications of the study. Stiffer parenting guidance and monitoring and were recommended among others
CONTINUING EDUCATION AS TOOL TO SOLVE PROBLEM FACED BY INTERNALLY DISPLACED PERSONS IN NIGERIA
Continuing education programme is flexible and adaptable to meet specific needs and requirements; hence it is situational relevant and problem solving to internally displaced people in Nigeria. It is designed to solve problems that are society based and those that are personal. It is widely accepted that, Continuing Education is essential for completers and non-completers of all forms of education in order to correct their deficiencies, to improve their skills and techniques to meet up with challenges. Displacement often present substantial barriers to their education for Internally Displaced People (IDPS) to be adequately fulfilled continuing education therefore, essential to prepare theinternally displaced persons socially and in all ramification when they finally return to their various communities. However, this paper shows the relevance of continuing education for internally displaced persons in order to equip them with the opportunity to tackle challenges against regaining their means of livelihoods, positive interpersonal relationship, improves their skills and financial stability and above all, adequately adjusted in their various societies. Implications for educators include opportunity that internally displace person will have to improve their standard of living. Recommendation for the study includes stronger legal instruments for IDPs are required in the country to standardizing support and protection of human rights including the right to education. Greater recognition by governments, funders, and NGOs should be given to the role of IDP education in peace – building and long – term sustainability for conflict – affected states

IMPACT OF WORK LIFE BALANCE ON EMPLOYEE PRODUCTIVITY: AN ASSESSMENT OF SELECTED DEPOSIT MONEY BANKS IN NORTH CENTRAL NIGERIA.
This study examined the impact of work life balance on employeeproductivity/performance of selected deposit money banks in North Central Nigeria. thestudy adopted a survey design approach to examines the impact of work life balance onemployee productivity/performance. This study\u27s population is made up of all theemployees of 14 deposit money banks in North Central Nigeria. However, in order toensure that the responses obtained were reliable and representative of the subject matter,the sampled population was restricted to managers, account officers and heads ofoperations of the selected 14 deposit money banks in North Central Nigeria. Randomsampling technique was used to select a total number of 35 managers, account officersand heads of operations of the selected 14 deposit money banks in North CentralNigeria. the result shows that, flexi time has a positive and significant impact onemployee performance of selected deposit money banks in North Central Nigeria. Theresult also shows that job sharing has a negative and insignificant impact on employeeproductivity/performance of selected deposit money banks in North Central Nigeria.The same thing with telework, it also shows a negative and insignificant impact onperformance. on that basis, it is therefore concluded that work life balance has a issignificant impact on employee productivity/performance of selected deposit moneybanks in North Central Nigeria. It is therefore recommended that banks should implementwork-life balance programs to employee productivity/performance of selected depositmoney banks in North Central Nigeria
ANALYSING THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ADVERTISEMENTS AND DEVELOPMENT NEWS IN DAILY TRUST AND THE NATION NEWSPAPERS
The research focuses on assessing how coverage of advertisements influences thecoverage of development news in the Nigerian press by examining the relationshipbetween advertisements and development news in Daily Trust and The Nationnewspapers. The research is anchored on the political economy theory of the media. Theresearch employs quantitative content analysis method. Two national independentnewspapers, Daily Trust and The Nation were content analysed with a systematicallydrawn sample size of 343 editions. Frequency distribution tables were used fordescriptive statistics while statistical measures of ANOVA and Regression were used forinferential statistics. Findings revealed that at .05 level of significance, advertising has apositive relationship with development news reports in the two papers; this means that asadvertisements increases, the coverage of development issues also increased. It was alsofound that Daily Trust covered more development news than The Nation newspaperduring the period under review. It is recommended among others that the media shouldadhere to professionalism and ethics in processing and reporting messages with a view toensuring all development related matters are fairly reported even in the face of pressurefrom advertising revenue sources
DRIVERS AND INHIBITORS OF EMPLOYEES’ ENGAGEMENT: EVIDENCE FROM A PUBLIC UNIVERSITY IN NORTH CENTRAL NIGERIA
This study drivers and inhibitors of lecturers’ engagement. Deepening disengagement has beenreported in literatures amongst the 21st century employees, leading to the call for studies onpossible drivers of employees’ engagement. The study used a qualitative research design andcollected data using semi-structured and in-depth-face-face interview. A total of 10 lecturersdrawn from different departments participated in the study and data collected were analysed basedon common themes and differences. Findings reveal that passion, communication, remunerationare drivers of the lecturers’ engagement, while poor facilities, poor funding, bad leadership areinhibitors. The lecturers demonstrated a high intention to quit, hence the study concludes that theengagement levels of the lecturers are low and brain drain exists among them. The managementof the university must tackle inhibitors by creating an atmosphere of justice that is institutionalizedby management and seated in the culture and climate of the organisation. Again the studyrecommends lecturers collaboration as a way of managing part of the problems and creating awin-win situation for both the lecturers and stakeholders in the industry
MODERATING EFFECT OF ORGANIZATIONAL CITIZENSHIP BEHAVIOUR ON THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT PRACTICES AND EMPLOYEE PERFORMANCE
Poor employee performance is costly to both organizations and employees as it drains productivityand contributes to employee failure and inability to achieve organizational goals and objectives.This study examines the moderating effect of Organizational citizenship behaviour on theRelationship between Human Resources Management Practices and performance of employee ofLocal Government in Kaduna state. The study employed cross- sectional Survey research designin which closed end structured questionnaire was administered on a sample of 476 staff of localGovernment in Kaduna state. Partial Least Square (PLS) software version 3 was employed toprocess the inferential of the study. The findings indicate that there exists relationship betweenhuman resource practices and employee performance. Specifically, the result of the test ofhypotheses support significant effect of career development, compensation and job security onemployee performance. On the contrary, there was an insignificant relationship between trainingand development and employee performance. More importantly, the result of the study furtherindicates significant moderating effect of organizational citizenship behaviour on the relationshipbetween career development, compensation, job security and employee performance. However,organizational citizenship behaviour does not significantly moderate the relationship betweentraining and development on employee performance. In the light of these findings, the studyconcludes that there is empirical support for the moderating effect of organizational citizenshipbehaviour on the relationship between human resources management practices and employeeperformance. It is therefore recommended that management of local government need to ensurethat their management strategies are aimed at improving employee performance and to ensurecontinuous survivor and retention of high talented employees
EDUCATIONAL ATTAINMENT, RELIGIOUS AFFILIATION AND PERCEPTION OF MODERN FAMILY PLANNING PRACTICE AMONG WOMEN OF REPRODUCTIVE AGE IN KEFFI LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF NASARAWA STATE-NIGERIA
This study examines the educational attainment, religious affiliation and perception of modernfamily planning practice among women of reproductive age in Keffi Local Government Area ofNasarawa State, Nigeria. A survey design was adopted. A sample of 343 respondents were drawn,using multi-stage sampling techniques involving electoral wards, towns/villages, main streets,houses, households and individuals. Primary data were utilized in the study. The primary datawere generated through the use of questionnaires. The questionnaires were analyzedquantitatively using chi-square and cross tabulation of variables. The findings show that the sociodemographiccharacteristics (age, educational attainment and religion) of the respondents affectthe utilization of modern family planning practice thereby distressing the attitude and practices ofmodern family planning practice among women of reproductive age in Keffi Local GovernmentArea of Nasarawa State, Nigeria. Therefore, the study recommends that government, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), and community-based organizations (CBOs) shouldembark on behaviour change programmes to educate women on the importance of modern familyplanning methods on the mother, the health of the Child, and the well-being of the society. Also,an increase in community campaigns to raise awareness on the importance of moderncontraceptives among males (husbands) should be emphasized and should go along with thoseinvolving women
EFFECT OF CORPORATE DISCLOSURE ON FINANCIAL LIQUIDITY OF QUOTED PHARMACEUTICAL FIRMS IN NIGERIA
Most past studies carried out concerning effect of corporate disclosure on financial liquidity bothwithin and outside Nigeria concentrated on financial disclosure ignoring other aspects ofdisclosures. The main objective of this study is to examine effect of corporate disclosure(environmental disclosure, corporate governance disclosure, risk disclosure and human resourcesaccounting disclosure) on financial liquidity of quoted pharmaceutical firms in Nigeria. Theresearch was anchored on stakeholder theory. Ex post facto research design was employed. Fiveout of ten top quoted pharmaceutical firms were sampled. The data used were sourced from annualreports and statement of accounts of the selected firms for the period of six years from 2015-2020.Augmented Dickey Fuller unit root test and Ordinary Least Square (OLS) were employed inanalyzing the data. The result shows that Environmental Disclosure (ED) has no significant effecton the financial liquidity of quoted pharmaceutical firms in Nigeria. While, Corporate GovernanceDisclosure (CGD), Risk Disclosure (RD) and Human Resources Accounting Disclosure (HRAD)have significant effect on the financial liquidity of quoted pharmaceutical firms in Nigeria. Thestudy concludes that corporate disclosure have significant effect on financial liquidity of quotedpharmaceutical firms in Nigeria. The study recommends that management of pharmaceutical firmsshould develop a well articulated environmental management and disclosure system in order toguarantee a conflict free corporate atmosphere needed by managers and workers for maximumproductivity. Also, pharmaceutical firms should be encouraged to disclose their risk exposure intheir annual reports to enhance their competitiveness which would subsequently lead to highcorporate performance
