The Role of the West African Police Information System and the Security of the Sub-Region
No full textThis study investigates the function that the West African Police Information System(WAPIS) plays in bringing together the security and law enforcement agencies in theregion to establish a strategy to combat crime and insecurity in West Africa. The paperdescribes the collaborative efforts they have made over time to make the ECOWASregion a safer place to live. In addition, it describes the state of criminal datamanagement in the region prior to the WAPIS programme establishment. A qualitativemethod of investigation was used in this study through a case study of the organizationaland policy framework of WAPIS to collect and organize data for this study. The studyapplies historical and document analytical approaches. The functionalist theory wasused as the study\u27s theoretical framework. Thus, the paper examines the significance ofWAPIS to law enforcement organizations throughout West Africa and beyond. TheWAPIS Programme\u27s benefits are the article\u27s focus, which concludes with somesuggestions

A REVIEW OF QUALITY PRACTICES IN DEVELOPING AND IMPROVING FUNCTIONAL CEREAL-BASED NON-ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES
No full textNon-alcoholic beverages made from cereals are still among the most popular indigenous drinks around the world. It is widely consumed in African countries as a refreshing, hydrating, and simple way to transport multiple nutrients into the body. The majority of these non-alcoholic Cereal-based beverages have a short shelf life and are produced locally under unsanitary conditions by local residents. Concerns have also been raised about inconsistencies in taste and flavor from different producers. These are significant constraints to the mass production, standardization, and commercialization of such products. There are also many concerns about the sanitation of products sold on the street. Several quality practices must be in place to ensure safe, healthy, and wholesome food, taking into account sensory properties, consumer awareness of eating healthy foods, and production methods. This paper focuses on the quality practices used in the manufacture of cerealbased non-alcoholic beverages. Following an in-depth review of previous publications, current practices for improving the quality of cereal-based non-alcoholic beverages are presented. These quality practices have the potential to aid in the production of high-quality non-alcoholic cereal beverages. This would be advantageous in terms of safety as well as nutritional value. As a result, such practices will be required to improve and develop local non-alcoholic beverages
An Archaeo-Metallurgical Investigation of Iron Smelting Residues at Zangon-Tama Site, Yabo Local Government Area of Sokoto State, Nigeria: A Preliminary Report
No full textThis paper presents the preliminary report of an archaeo-metallurgical investigation of iron smelting residues at the Zangon Tama site in Yabo Local Government Area of Sokoto State, Nigeria, as part of a (Ph.D.) thesis research. Zangon Tama was one of the iron smelting sites within the Sokoto region. Archaeological surveys and excavation were used in gathering the datasets. This paper is limited to the survey as we await the excavation results and the smelting residues\u27 analyses. The paper highlighted the surface configuration of the site consisting of iron slag, fragments of tuyeres, and remains of furnaces. The investigation revealed the extent of the site. It provided the archaeological data to be used for the archaeo-metallurgical analyses that will shed more light on the technical aspect of the smelting that took place on the site. The result of the investigation revealed high number of iron smelting evidence at the Zangon Tama site that includes iron slag, tuyere fragment and furnace remain
The Effects of Boko Haram Insurgency on Borno Women, 2009– 2016
No full textBoko Haram insurgency is largely becoming a household word globally as no neighbouring country of Nigeria is entirely unaffected by the effects. The activities of the sect since 2009 have created a state of palpable fear in Borno State. Boko Haram, which figuratively implies that western or non-Islamic education is a sin, is a very controversial Nigerian militant group thatseeks to impose sharia law in the entire northern states of Nigeria. The official name of the group is Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awa Waljihad. Against this background, this study examines the effects of Boko Haram insurgency on Borno women from 2009 - 20l6. Thus, both primary and secondary source materials were used in the study. The primary sources include oral interviews conducted with internally displaced intellectuals, security agents, and other victims of the insurgency. The secondary data involves the use of published and unpublished books, journals, theses, dissertations, and newspapers
Soldiers as Governors: A Study of Brigadier General Abba Kyari’s Administration in North Central State Nigeria, 1967-1975
No full textThis study examines the activities of Brigadier General Abba Kyari’s administration as Governor in North Central State of Nigeria, 1967-1975. This is important because it helps us understand the military\u27s changing roles since the 20th century. Although, the main constitutional responsibility of the military is the protection of the territorial integrity of the country. However, with the political independence of Nigeria in 1960 the military started to play other roles beyond being a professionally trained combatant force. In particular, the changing role of the military is evident in its new role as military in governance that has led to its contribution to nation-building. From this background, the military administration of Brigadier Abba Kyari was studied in NorthCentral State. For example, the period saw the completion of the projects inherited from the former Northern Regional Government and the structural reconstruction of the State Economy to generate and sustain a faster economic growth rate and to lay a solid foundation for future developments. Through historical methodology, the paper demonstrates the changing roles of the military in Nigeria, especially in the aspect of contribution to nation-building through the military in governance
Preliminary Notes on Tulu Settlement Site, Bauchi State, Nigeria
No full textTulu is a small ancient settlement named after a great hunter who established it. It is situated in the present day Sabon Kariya, Bauchi State. Tulu was said to have migrated from Old Kariya to avoid conflict between him and his brother who established Old Kariya. This paper presents the archaeological investigation carried out on Tulu hill-top and plain settlement site, evidence surviving from this site includes; relic of stone wall, relic of house foundation, granary foundation, lower grinding stone and graves. The paper adopts archaeological survey and collection of oral tradition as methods for data gathering. Thin Section Analysis was also employed to understand data, specifically pottery for the reconstruction of human activities on this site
Social Media Prevalence and Usage for Academic Purpose among Student of Delta State University
No full textThe study examines social media prevalence and usage for academic purposes among post graduate students of the Delta State University, Abraka. The population of study was the over 6000 registered PG students in the 2020/2021 academic session. Two hundred respondents were purposively selected as the sample size. These respondents were surveyed using a structured questionnaire. Uses and gratifications theory was the anchor of the study. The study found that the postgraduate students of the Delta State University, Abraka used social media for academic purposes as well as personal reasons. The study discovered that postgraduate students of DELSU Abraka were able to benefit from the use of social media platforms as they relate with their contemporaries, faculty members and staff of the PG School. Recommendations include the need to enhance the use of social media platforms in the University by increasing access and making the ICT unit of the University more functional and accessible via wifi
Assessment of Factors Causing Congestion and Nature of Cargo Clearance in Apapa Port, Lagos, Nigeria
No full textPort congestion is a situation where there are obstacles in the shipyard, wharf as a result of huge shipments that needs to be offloaded thus, hindering the free flow of cargos in the port. This creates an unpleasant scenario that harms the economy, and hampers international trade. When port congestion occurs, it opens the door for more effective, efficient and technologically driven changes that include adequate planning, overhaul of existing routines and systematic modifications to be implemented. The study assessed the nature of cargo clearance and factors causing congestion in Apapa Port. The methodology for this research was based on cross-sectional survey research design, with questionnaire as the primary instrument of data collection. The simple random and convenience sampling technique was utilised in reaching the selected sample of Seventy (70) respondents from Apapa port, Lagos, Nigeria. Analysis was also carried out using descriptive statistical method. The study revealed that the nature of cargo clearance was very cumbersome in Apapa Port. Also, multiplication of security agents and demographic changes were factors causing the port congestion. The study recommended the need for the elimination of bureaucratic processes causing delays as well as a smart and seamless discharge of duties by desk officers. Also, the expansion of road networks around the port by the government at Federal and State levels was deemed necessary to encourage free flow of traffic in order to inhibit localized congestion
Artificial Intelligence and Organizational Business Productivity: A Qualitative Study
No full textThis study is focused on Artificial intelligence and productivity in the workplace. The main objective of this research work is to unveil the significance of Artificial Intelligence in aiding business productivity and it will serve as an eye opener to other ignorant business organizations that are yet to tune into the use of this human-like machine. The qualitative methodology was employed to this work and this involved an online interview of over ten different staff members and one among them representing each of these companies that make use of this technology in their day to day work activities .Information obtained were analyzed and displayed in a narrative way for easy comprehension .The findings from the interviewees showed greater level of productivity in those business firms where the services of this software was employed. It also revealed that the software works accurately without getting tired and that it can perform routine functions adding that it is far better than human efforts. The paper recommends an outright application and enthronement of the system in every business outfit in the world for greater level of success
