Education Evolution of Islamic Schools during the Colonial Rule in Zaria Province 1921 – 1960
The paper examines the evolution of Islamic schools in Zaria province 1921 – 1960. This is in view of the fact that the history of the evolution and development of Islamic schools during the colonial period has not been exhausted. The paper argues that there were various Islamic schools in the Zazzau Emirate even before the coming of British colonialists. However, the conquest of Zazzau Emirate by the British imperialists and the subsequent establishment of colonial economic and political administration in Zazzau Emirate now Zaria Province affected the smooth running of the Islamic school. This is because the British colonialist officials not only adopted harsh socio-economic, political and administrative measures to undermine the smooth running of the Islamic schools by the Islamic teachers (Mallams), but introduced a formal colonial system of education (Western Education) and encouraged the Emirs and their traditional council of chiefs (Hakimai) to send their children into various schools. This in turn affected the enrolment of pupils especially girls into the Islamic schools (Makarantan Allo) in Zaria province. The paper relies on oral information through oral interviews, archival materials, published and unpublished sources of information

Religio-Philosohycal Implication of Death and Funeral Rites among the Nyakpa People of Karu Local Government Area in Nasarawa State
The weight of Mbiti’s philosophical assertion that; “Africans are notoriously religious better defines the African man and cannot be overruled. Religion and Philosophy are interwoven and constitute essential aspects of every human society. The importance of religion, as well as Philosophy in the society, cannot be over-emphasized. In Africa, while almost all the activities that are carried out from birth to death are predicated on their Philosophy and religion, such religious practices are carried out based on the strength of rational and philosophical articulations and the religious worldview of the people. This translates to the fact that, while, in matters of religious practice and faith, there are no questions, African philosophy stands in here to critically analyze and give reasons why it is good for us to practice our religion and point at the consequence of objecting to it. It correctly captured the logicality of the religious beliefs of African people as everything in Africa is done according to religious beliefs, African man carries his religion to farms, markets, government houses, war, meetings, etc. All the events and ceremonies in Africa are done according to their religious beliefs. This paper attempts to articulate the way and manner in which the Nyankpa people in Karu Local Government Area also attach importance to and practice their religion in all aspects of their cultural living and how Religion and philosophy play vital roles concerning the death and funeral rites of the people. Thepaper concludes and provides recommendations arising from the findings of the research

Nigeria is the largest democracy in Africa. In 1999, it returned to civil rule after years of military interregnum. The return was greeted with excitement, fanfare and expectations. The paper seeks, therefore, to interrogate the journey so far in Nigeria\u27s democratic experience. The study adopts qualitative method with emphasis on secondary source of data gathering. Data was analysed using content analysis. The study finds out that democracy is not equal to development, and at the same time not a threat to it. PARTY CRISIS AND DEMOCRATIC CONSOLIDATION IN NIGERIA: ALL PROGRESSIVE CONGRESS (APC) OGUN STATE IN FOCUS (2018-2019)
Party politics is an integral part of a democratic society. However, intra-party crisis has undermined the significance of political parties in Nigeria. This paper investigated intra-party crisis and democratic consolidation in Nigeria using the APC Ogun State between 2018 and 2019 as a focus. It made use of secondary sources of data and adopted the Realistic Group Conflict Theory (RGCT) as its theoretical tool of analysis. The paper observed that intra-party crisis is an age-long affair in Nigeria\u27s political landscape, which was evident in the pre-independence politics of the nation and has evolved through political development to date. It argued that intra-party crisis witnessed in Ogun state APC between 2018 and 2019 had terrifying effect on democratic consolidation in the state and the nation at large. It argued that the efforts made by the stakeholders to resolve the crisis in APCOgun state proved abortive. Available records indicate that the APC intra-party crisis weakened party growth and mobilisation capacity in Ogun state. It initiated political instability through party defection, excessive monitised politics, electoral violence and other electoral irregularities. It concluded that intra-party crisis frustrated the move towards democratic consolidation in Ogun state. The paper recommended, among others, that APC Ogun state should display openness and transparency in the process of selecting party flag bearers and party executives while members should be given opportunity to participate in party activities. Also, the party should establish an unbiased conflict management and resolution mechanism for addressing intra-party crisis while the Ogun state APC should strictly uphold party internal democracy and comply with provisions of party constitution
PARTY POLITICS, ELECTORAL PROCESS AND TRANSITIONAL DEMOCRACY: A COMPRATIVE STUDY OF NIGERIA AND GHANA UNDER FOURTH REPUBLIC
Ghana and Nigeria are two countries in the West African sub-region that share significant historical similarities like British colonialism, nationalism, economic crisis, prolonged military rule, multi-party democracy and are in their fourth republics. With the global democratization process, Ghana and Nigeria successfully made the transition to civil rule in 1992 and 1999 respectively and are rated differently on the democratization scale. While the former is rated high, the latter is rated low in comparative ranking within the same period of democratization. This paper sets out to assess party politics and electoral processes in transitional democracies: A comparative study of Nigeria and Ghana under fourth republic. The paper adopts secondary source and adopts structural functional theory for its analysis. Also, the paper finds that in Ghana the virtue of the Electoral Commission Act of 1992, the chairman and members of the Commission are appointed by the president but are accountable to the parliament, whereas in Nigeria chief Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) chairman is also appointed by the president subject to senate approval but the ruling party and the president have great influence on the chairman as well as the conduct of the elections. The paper recommends that efforts should be made as much as practicable to make elections less hostile and crisis prone. It is absolutely necessary for the government to ensure that political leaders emerge through democratic procedures in every round of elections
