    No full text
Social studies education is a discipline that has performed excellently well in the annals of human society. From time immemorial, social studies education has not relented in providing the succour needed to foster harmonious relationships among family circles, stabilize national harmony and serve as an adhesive to the multiethnic nature of the nations around the globe. Through its well-articulated contents, it has built families, empires, states, nations and the globe as a whole. It is imperative that the future of the discipline should be built as it has built a lot of humans. This noble disposition will ensure that its numerous benefits are continued to be enjoyed. A symbiotic relationship must be experienced between the discipline and the human race it has immensely benefited. Social studies education does not have its root in Nigeria, though it has come to stay in the country as well due, to its unquantifiable importance and benefits; it is a discipline that is eclectic in nature. Its tentacle spreads across all aspects of human endeavours; hence, it is seen as a panacea to so many evils that bedevil mankind around the globe. The relationship between social studies education and certain social science subjects like Psychology, Political Science, Geography, History, Sociology, Economics, Civic Education, Religion and Anthropology brings out the eclectic nature of social studies education for effective human capacity-building and national development. The paper delineates areas where Nigeria does well and where adjustments need to be made for an effective function of social studies concerning social science subjects. This paper, therefore, sees social studies education as a discipline that still stands the test of time and must be accorded the dignity and recognition it deserves

    No full text
Agriculture plays key roles in Nigerian economy as it serves as a source of food to people and raw materials to industries. This study examined the impact of financial sector development on agricultural output in Nigeria, using ARDL estimation technique. It employed money supply, credit to private sector and loans to agricultural sector as indicators of financial development, while using proportion of GDP to agricultural sector as a proxy for agricultural output in Nigeria. The annual data used cover the period of 1981 – 2020. It is found in the study that agricultural sector loans have negative impact on agricultural output in both short and long-run. Then, the study also found that adjusted money supply (adjusted M2) has positive impact on agricultural sector output in the long run in Nigeria. It was concluded that financial sector development has impact on agricultural productivity in Nigeria

Medicine (V-THMs), produced for the confined and broader domestic markets of Bosso and Chanchaga Local Government Area of Niger State, Nigeria was explored together with the current practices of the supply chain actors. The confined and broader domestic supply chain involved growers, pickers, wholesalers and retailers who participate in the growing, harvesting and marketing of the vegetable using the chain of Beji growing fields-Maikunkele market-Bosso market-Kasuwan Gwadabe vegetable market Minna-Kure market-Kasuwan Tunga. Post-harvest loss was about 32.6% in the confined supply chain and 42.7% in the broader domestic supply chain. In both chains, growers suffered the highest loss of about 52% due to temperature, decaying and shedding. Damages incurred by pickers in the confined supply chain was 9% while in the broader domestic supply chain, the loss was 14%. Price irregularity was also obvious in both confined and broader domestic chains. To develop the livelihood of growers, a merging system that synchronizes and unswervingly link production activities and post-harvest procedures to regularly meet product capacity and value requirements of the domestic market required. It is therefore, recommended that reducing product damage requires production and post-harvest interpolations, which includes proper pest control, proper harvesting procedure, proper pruning procedure, improved packaging and logistics

Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) is one of the critical source of capital inflow into a country. Portfolio investment, foreign loans and trade credits are other sources of FDI. The cumulative effect of the agreements entered by Nigeria with the international body are the instruments/documents recognized by law which is a demonstration of Nigeria’s efforts and preparedness to attract and protect foreign investment. In spite of the effort, there still continues to be a very slow and low inflow of foreign investment to Nigeria. Resolving these impediments is the aim of this paper and it recommends among others that government should imbibe the spirit of genuine attitudinal and policy change that would create enabling environment for Nigerians and foreign investors to thrive

Appraisal of Post Concession Seaports in Nigeria with an Insight to Growth Forecast

    No full text
The Nigerian maritime industry contributes significantly to the national economy through revenue generation. Over the years, major policy changes that affect performance of the seaports have been undertaken by the government in a bid to ensure efficiency that translates to increased revenue output generation. This study analysed some performance growth indicators such as port cargo throughput (PCT), gross registered tonnage (GRT) and the total number of vessels (TV), for Nigerian seaports from the millennial era, marked by a transition to sustained democratic government administration and consequent port reform afterwards. From the results obtained it was observed that the general performance of cargo throughput was deemed marginal and inconsistent throughout the study period of the time series with 24.53% being the maximum growth rate recorded between the period 2006 to 2007 of the post-reform era after concessions. However, a maximum annual port cargo throughput figure of 84,951,927 metric tons was recorded in the year 2014. By establishing an average benchmark figure of 39,078,043 metric tons for PCT in the current democratic dispensation, forecast throughput data for 10 years (2020 to 2029) was computed using an arithmetic progressive sequence

    No full text
Corruption undermines a country\u27s regulatory framework and the efficiency of its public institutions, as the pursuit of immediate individual profits distorts public decision-making. This paper attempts to examine remuneration as a panacea to curb corruption in public service delivery. The paper identified that poor remuneration could lead to a violation of the operating rules of administration in the public service, which severely undermines the state statutory responsibility to its citizens and thus promote lack of effective and efficient public services delivery. The paper concludes that there is an inverse relationship between remuneration and corruption in public service in Nigeria. Data for this study was sourced through content analysis
