Gypsum mineral is a critical raw material in the manufacture of cement, Plaster Of Paris (POP) and in many other industries. Nigeria has a few cement factories which provide significant job opportunities for Nigerians. As a developing country, Nigeria is a huge construction site for the development of several infrastructures. Gypsum deposits in North-Western Nigeria have been selected for study as a basis for sourcing of suitable gypsum deposits as raw materials for Nigerian industries/manufacturing companies and projects through beneficiation optimization as may be necessary. Wurno and Kalambaina are the locations of the mapped and analyzed Gypsum mineral deposits in Sokoto State. The geochemical data shows that SiO2 ranges from 0.2% to 0.9%, Al2O3 from 1.35% to 2.55%, Fe2O3 from 0.04% to 0.15%, MgO from 0.23% to 4.71% , CaO from 38.98% to 43.08%, and SO3 from 52.8% to 55.21%. The mapped Gypsum mineral occur in economic quantity when juxtaposed against the geochemical characteristics (qualities), the studied gypsum has an average of 92.62% of purity and therefore graded as High grade  gypsum mineral deposit which constitutes huge raw materials for various industries. Investors are invited to use the results obtained in this study to establish cement, fertilizers, paint, paper, textiles, and chemical industries in North-western Nigeria. This will result in the industrialization, economic growth, employment generation and positive social transformation of the region. The results will contribute immensely to sourcing of high grade raw materials for the Nigerian cement and other industries that consume gypsum. The results will as well lead to expansion of capacities of presently operating cement factories, establishment of new/additional cement factories, revival of solid mineral mining and establishment of mineral-based industries. These will culminate in employment generation, wealth creation, poverty reduction and women and youth empowerment in sustainable physical environments

A PRELIMINARY STUDY ON EFFECT OF YEAST DOSAGES ON RICE BRAN AS A POTENTIAL FISH FEED INGREDIENT AT 35 0C

    No full text
Ingredients cost is a major factor affecting the cost of feed and fish production. Rice bran is abundantly produced and mostly becomes a waste, because of its low nutrients that is not easily digested by animals. Thus, protein extraction from it is done using several treatment methods (physical, heat, enzymic and chemical). The need to determine the appropriate dosage of Yeast (Saccharomyces ceresisiae) that will improve nutrients availability in Rice bran at 35 0C necessitate this study. The nutrients composition of Rice bran was determined using proximate analysis, the undigested Rice bran crude protein and crude fibre composition are 7.75 % and 26.89 % respectively. Yeast (0 %, 3 %, 4 % and 5 %) was evenly mixed into rice bran and water added to it, then digested at 35 0C in a thermo-regulator. The digestion at 0 %, 3 %, 4 % and 5 % yeast yielded these Crude Protein: 7.75 %, 10.50 %, 8.00 %, and 7.88 % and crude fibre: 26.89 %, 20.21 %, 21.56 % and 22.30 % respectively, which signifies an increase in crude protein and a reduction in crude fibre in all the treatments. Digestion done with 3 % yeast inclusion level produced the highest crude protein and lowest crude fibre at 35 0C. This shows a nutritional composition improvement that may lower cost of production, environmental and waste management, if used as an ingredient in feed production.&nbsp

Worldwide, development has become an issue of concern due to the increase in crises. The study assessed the restorative efforts of government and NGOs in the Provision of an enabling environment in Bama local government area of Borno State, Nigeria. Data were sourced from both primary and secondary sources. Primary data were obtained from the population of the study, which comprised of, 62,531 IDPs and 529 community leaders from within and outside camp in Bama. The secondary data were sourced from State Emergency Management Agency and Ministry of Rehabilitation, Reconstruction and Resettlement Borno state. The sample size of the study was 437 IDPs using stratify and simple random sampling and 53 community leaders were selected using purposive sampling. The study administered (437) questionnaires, (405) were returned as valid. Fifty-three (53) key informants were interviewed both within and outside the camp in Bama local government. Statistical package for social sciences (SPSS) version 26 was used for the analysis. The study revealed the extent to which an enabling environment provided for the restoration of development in Bama has not yielded a positive result and concluded that enabling environment available for the restoration of development in Bama local government has reported to be inefficient. The study recommended that Humanitarian agencies (Government and NGOs) should have a monitoring team that will consist of beneficiaries, experts in the field of Humanitarian programs, and community representatives to conduct a pilot survey on the prioritized needs of the returned IDPs. This will facilitate and reduce the challenges as it will give an insight on how to go about the effective provision of enabling environment as a variable for the restoration of development in Bama Local Government

IMPACT OF FUNDING THE UNIVERSAL BASIC EDUCATION (UBE) ON HUMAN CAPITAL DEVELOPMENT IN KADUNA STATE

    No full text
Human capital development is regarded as facilitating the development of national human capacities to achieve sustainable, inclusive, equitable development and, at the same time, enhance well-being of individuals. The study broadly seeks to assess the impact of funding the Universal Basic Education (UBE) on human capital development of Kaduna State. Secondary data were gathered from the relevant agencies in the state on the funds accruing to the state universal education, number of pupil\u27s enrolment in primary and junior secondary schools as well as transition level in the school census report. The hypotheses were tested using Regression analysis because of its ability to determine the variation in one variable (dependent variable) associated with variation in another variable(s) (independent variables). The Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) estimation method is a multiple estimation technique among others; it is used to fit the coefficients chosen to minimize the sum of squares of residual errors with a value of a 1% rise in capital expenditure on UBE (CEUBE) in Kaduna State would give rise to 0.042% in human capital development, 1% rise in junior secondary school enrolment would expand human capital development as proxy by number of pupils who graduated from primary school to junior secondary school in Kaduna state by 0.32%. 1% increase in primary schools enrolment (PSE) would increase number of graduates in the state by 0.95%. The study finds among others that; funding the UBE in terms of recurrent expenditure improves the quality of teachers in terms of trainings and development, workshops and others; funding the capital expenditure of the UBE in terms of project financing leads to HCD. The study therefore recommend among others; the need for the government to increase funding in the entire educational sector with more emphasis on the UBE, since it is the foundation of education

Over the past decades, interest in sustainable development has grown significantly in various parts of the country. This underscores the need for development partners such as the NGOs to complement governments\u27 activities in providing services to the people. Hence, NGOs have stepped in and have been operating side by side with the Nigerian government with a view to promoting sustainable development. The extent to which these NGOs have made impacts in the lives and well-being of their beneficiaries is the central focus of this paper. The indicators measuring sustainable development that was utilised in this paper are beneficiary participation, economic empowerments and antenatal care services. The Participatory Development theory was adopted as the theoretical tool of analysis in the study. Being a survey research, data were generated from both primary and secondary sources. The primary data were obtained through questionnaire while the secondary data were obtained from documentary evidence as well as official reports from the selected NGOs, grants received by the NGOs from different donors, official publications of the United Nations Organization for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN OCHA). The population of the study were NGO beneficiaries comprising of religious, community, youths\u27 and women leaders as well as NGO staff. The total population of the beneficiaries in the selected states is 239,775 out of which 400 were obtained using Taro Yamane formula and 12 NGO staff selected through purposive sampling technique. The descriptive statistics include simple percentage and crosstabulation. The paper established that beneficiary participation constitute a significant component of project implementation by NGOs in the study areas as 83.2% of the respondents agreed. The study also revealed 41.4% of the respondents strongly agreedthat the economic empowerment schemes of NGOs have significantly improved the sources of income of their beneficiaries. However, more synergy and collaborations between the NGOs and government agencies are needed to increase coverage ofbeneficiaries in economic empowerment programs. The study concludes that Nongovernmental Organizations have made impacts on sustainable development in Adamawa and Borno states. The study, therefore, recommended among others that, efforts must be made to develop the capacities of the beneficiaries to further strengthen their participations in proposals development and other stages of the project life cycle

LINGUISTIC-STYLISTIC ANALYSIS OF ONOMATOPOEIAS IN HAROLD SONNY LADOO’S NO PAIN LIKE THIS BODY

    No full text
Every author has a unique style that features prominently in his or her work. A close reading of Ladoo’s novel identifies onomatopoeias as a prominent stylistic device that describes setting, themes, characters and points-of-view. This study investigates the linguistic-stylistic analysis of onomatopoeias in Ladoo’s No Pain Like This Body. The study classifies onomatopoeias, states the phonological characteristics of onomatopoeias and discusses the functions of onomatopoeias. This study has adopted Peirce’s Theory of Sign or Iconicity. The relevance of Peircean Theory of Iconicity is that these icons are capable of describing shapes, textures, sounds, sight, movements, odour and sizes of objects in the select novel. The study uses Ladoo’s No Pain Like This Body as a primary source of data. As for data presentation, this study selects onomatopoeias in the select novel, classified onomatopoeias, described phonological characteristics of onomatopoeias and discussed the functions of onomatopoeias. It has been discovered that onomatopoeias add musicality, memorability, isomorphism and parallelism in the select novels. This study establishes that onomatopoeia is more than a figure of speech, word-formation process and mimetic device. The preponderance of onomatopoeias in the novels helps in establishing the settings, advancement of plot, characterisation and thematic pre-occupations. Linguists, grammarians, stylisticians and literary critics will immensely benefit from this study.  Semioticians, rhetoricians, phonologists and semanticists will find this study as an invaluable material that shows the interface between phonology and semantics &nbsp
