    No full text
This paper explores the critical intersection of consumer behaviour and emphatic marketing practices in the context of the Nigerian market. Understanding consumer behaviour is essential for businesses to tailor their strategies effectively, while emphatic marketing emphasizes a customer-centric approach focused on empathy and understanding. The introduction highlights the significance of these concepts in Nigeria, where cultural, social, and economic factors shape consumer preferences. A customer-centric stance, central to emphatic marketing, shifts the focus to meeting customer needs and fostering genuine relationships. By incorporating in-text citations from relevant studies, the introduction sets the stage for a comprehensive examination of how a deep understanding of consumer behaviour, coupled with empathic marketing strategies, can drive success and foster lasting connections with Nigerian consumers. This paper aims to provide valuable insights for businesses operating in Nigeria, emphasizing the importance of empathy, authenticity, and personalized experiences in engaging with the diverse Nigerian consumer base

Since 1850s Ilorin was described as one of the greatest entrepots of central Africa and the commercial emporium of all southern Sudan. 1 The town has also been acknowledged for ubiquitous markets located in different parts of the town especially in front of traditional ruler’s houses which served as the commercial centres where goods change hands. This fact is substantiated by Jimoh as cited in 1921 Gazetteer of Ilorin province that: “the most striking feature to a stranger, visiting Ilorin for the first time is the size of its markets”2. The Gambari market was one of the international markets in the pre-colonial Ilorin Emirate, which European explorers and missionaries like Bower, Campbell, Crowder and others have acknowledged. The reason was that foreign and local goods as well as slaves were traded in the Market. The traders from the north and south of the Niger converged in the Market for the exchange of goods and services. Food items from the southern areas of Abeokuta, Ibadan, Osogbo, and Ekiti were traded in exchange for goods like: imported clothes, lanterns, pieces of jewelry, ornaments, horse girdle, and animals such as horse, cow and so on, However, the Gambari market began to decline after the heavy bombardment of Ilorin town by the forces of the Royal Niger Company in 1897, coupled with subsequent integration of the economy of the town into the metropolitan economy. Thischange in the economic system spelt doom for the Gambari market traders as they found it difficult to adapt to the changing business pattern. In view of the foregoing, the paper intends to examine the effects of colonial conquest on the collapse of the Gambari market. It will be study within the context of economic damages which the bombardment had done to the traders, revenue loss on the part of the aristocrats and economic disempowerment of the middlemen. The qualitative research method was adopted for the study, which included oral interviews and secondary sources

The study investigated learners’ involvement as correlate of their academic achievement in Basic Literacy Education Centres in Ondo State. The study was guided by two research questions and one hypothesis which was tested at a 0.05 level of significance. The correlation survey research design was adopted in line with the stated purpose of the study. The population of the study comprised of 1,346 adult learners and 90 literacy facilitators in the 90 government-owned Basic Literacy Education Centres in Ondo State, Nigeria. The multi-stage sampling procedure involving the stratified, simple random and cluster sampling techniques were used to select a total of 708 adult learners from 45 government-owned Basic Literacy Education Centres in Ondo State as a sample of the study. Face validity of the instruments was assured by the supervisors and other experts in the areas of Literacy Education, Educational Management and Educational Evaluation. The ALAT was tested for reliability using the Split half reliability technique; a coefficient of 0.86 was obtained. The ALIQ was tested for reliability using the Cronbach Alpha reliability technique and a coefficient of 0.83 was obtained. The data collected for the study were analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The research questions were answered using frequency count, percentages and mean statistics while the hypotheses were tested using simple linear regression. The major finding of the study revealed that Learners’ involvement correlates their academic achievement. Based on the findings of the study, it was concluded that learners’ involvement is a correlate to adult learners’ achievement in Basic Literacy Education in Ondo State. It was, therefore, recommended that Centre Based Management Committee should ensure that the facilitators use the appropriate methodologies that will boost the involvement of learners in the teaching and learning process

    No full text
The quest to accelerate the pace of development of the economy in a bid to transform Nigeria into the group of developed economies by achieving certain macroeconomic objectives had called for increasing government expenditure in the provisions of public goods for the people and the nation. In view of the role of public expenditures on national progress and prosperity, this study empirically examined the disaggregated impact of the expenditures on economic growth in Nigeria for the period 1986-2021 using ARDL model as a tool for analysis. The important findings from the study suggest that capital and recurrent expenditures on community, social and economic services significantly boost economic growth in both short and long runs but the recurrent expenditure is negatively significant in the short run. Similarly, recurrent expenditure on community, social and economic services is also positively and significantly related with real GDP. Although capital and recurrent expenditures on administration and transfer are found to retard economic growth in the short run; they turn out to significantly enhance national output in the long run. Other findings from the study revealed that capital stock significantly promotes growth whereas labour slows down the growth across both short and long runs. The study recommends that government should lay a solid foundation and provide a workable business ground for individuals and firms. Government should also pay attention to finance growth enhancing spending categories such as infrastructure, research and development, education and health that would enhance human development in the country
