The Nigerian Rural Woman’s Economy: The Understudied Phenomenon
The Nigeria rural women have been misrepresented by researchers as being poor, economically disadvantaged, dependant on their husbands and ever requiring help, and empowerment. Studies, disregard contribution to family, economy and commerce by rural women. Their contribution to home welfare and stability in husbands’ business and trade have been scored low in the assessment of women’s contribution to national economy. The paper therefore reviews this assertions and attempts to redefine the rural woman’s capacity and contribution to the economic life of rural population and the nation as a whole. We hope to determine these not through statistical measures but through secondary data, of literature contents to uncover how much of research studies on women economy, have been done on rural women’s economy. This paper posits that, rural women engage in vertical economy. They contribute more to national development than their urban counterpart. when they help their husbands work on his farms and engage in commerce of agro-allied products, arts and crafts like cloths making etc. this is the vertical occupation and vocational economy, while urban women engage in horizontal economy with their employed jobs, indirect trade and less of production. They work for government as civil servants or private servants. Rural women mobilise themselves for social and indigenous cultural roles as leaders, recognised by men. Meanwhile the difficulty of urban or city women to lead their communities and groups where men are dominant is more visible, wherein those in the cities are described as sophisticated. As researchers keep emphasising that urban women are more civilised, rural women are far from being poor than city women, because they own their own businesses and are self-employed. Those rural women lacks, are basic amenities and accesses to financial and basic social amenities, which social institutions do less or not supply. Empowerment programmes are recommended to explore this knowledge, for a more sustaining programme in future for rural women

The recent fall in the oil price and subsequent drop in the federal subventions or grants to the states in Nigeria has propelled the intense study of revenue mobilization at the local government for rural development. It\u27s in light of this renewal effort towards research on rural development in the local government that this, research focuses basically on the search for an alternative to federal grants by the local authority thereby identifying effective revenue mobilization as the engine room for rural development. This survey research adopts both primary and secondary research instruments in the collection of data and uses statistical analogy in the interpretation of the data collected. The research argues among other things that, the deplorable condition of the rural areas is directly a function of less effective revenue mobilization and application by the local authority and thereby concludes that unless there is a renewal effective effort towards revenue mobilization the rural development will remain unrealistic and the research further finds among other things that local authority lack the political intensity to mobilized revenue and finally recommend among other thing that resources realized in the mobilization process should be channel to human development projects

But down the ages, issues of environmental concerns are not fully integrated into emergent literary discourses; given that the term eco-criticism may not have been popular before the nineteen century. In recent times, ecological issues have become sensitive to the literary artists. In this article, the role of prose narratives in creating environmental consciousness (eco-conscious) is examined. The article demonstrates how literary writers imagine change in the context of pollution-related crises and collapse. The methodology used is textual and thematic exposition of selected literary masterpieces which are analysed in order to relate them to environmental presence. It is recommended that the study eco narrative be encouraged in our educational institutions. It is superficial that eco-critics lend their voices in protest against ecological injustices in their works
