Analysis of Road Traffic Violations on Passengers and Freights Transport in Minna Metroplis
Traffic violations are major causes of congestion. Unfortunately hundreds of innocent souls are lost due to accidents brought about by traffic violations on mobility. This study analyzes road traffic violations on passenger and freights transport in Minna metropolis. Both primary and secondary data were collected from VIO headquarters where a census sampling techniques was adopted. The data gathered were analysis by the use of descriptive statistics such as tabulation, frequency, charts, and ranking-order. Findings from the study revealed that there are fourteen (14) common traffic violations and the major traffic offences include; road traffic light, expired vehicle papers, driver’s license, dangerous loading, and failure to produce vehicle papers on-demand respectively. The main reasons for the violation of traffic in the study area are negative attitude of motorist and reduction of travel time/saving of fuel attested by 45.2% and 27.4% of the respondents respectively. Furthermore, to ascertain the effects of traffic violations on mobility, 38.4% of the respondents attested to the fact that crashes leads to death, 31.5% affirmed crashes leads to injury, and 15% attested to traffic congestion respectively. It is therefore recommended that adequate information dissemination on traffic rules and regulations with emphasis on traffic light, and introduction of traffic safety education into the system is the most potent method to reducing traffic violation
THE IMPACT OF BRE AST CANCER AWARENESS PROGRAMMES AMONG WOMEN IN BIDA LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF NIGER STATE
This study seeks to investigate the impact of breast cancer awareness programmes among women in Bida Local Government Area of Niger State.A quantitative survey design was implemented to gather data and investigate the research problems through the administration of structured Breast Cancer Awareness & Impact Questionnaire" (BCAIQ) to collect primary data from a population of 41,362 and a sample of 380 consisting of women of childbearing age residing in 14 different wards within the Bida local government area in Niger State. Krejcie and Morgan (1970) sample determination method was used to select the study\u27s sample. Pearson Product Moment Coefficient of Correlation (PPMC) was used to quantify the level of correlation and the analysis of the data revealed a correlation coefficient of 82, indicating a strong positive correlation between the responses obtained during the two-time period. The findings from the analysis of study rrevealed that, most women in the Bida Local Government Area of Niger State have moderate knowledge about breast cancer. Conclusively, breast cancer awareness programs have a positive and significant impact on increasing the level of breast cancer awareness among women in Bida Local Government Area. The recommendations from the study are that it is crucial for all stakeholders in the healthcare sector to actively participate in enhancing breast cancer awareness efforts, dedicated breast cancer screening centre should be established, certain medications to be included in the coverage provided by the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), and, there is the need for the involvement of nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) in providing medication and financial support to patients
WEAPONIZING NIGERIA\u27S ELECTIONS: INTERROGATING THE 2023 GENERAL ELECTIONS IN KANO STATE
Over the years, the phenomenon of electoral violence has been a reoccurring issue in Nigeria especially states like Kano that have long history of political diversity. Prior to the 2023 general elections in Kano state, electoral violence is perpetrated with the use of locally fabricated weapons such as gariyo, fafale, fate-fate, sticks, matches and so on. The 2023 general election brought in a new dimension to this as fire arms were introduced into the business of electoral violence before, during and after the elections. The article which utilized both primary and secondary data submits that, despite efforts by security operatives under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) and other stakeholders under the Kano Peace Committee (KPC), scores of incidences were recorded during the 2023 electioneering process especially clashes between supporters of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the opposition New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) on the one hand and the Action Democratic Party (ADP) on the other. It recommends that politicians and their followers should be closely monitored during build up to elections, while those that are found wanting should be brought to justice no matter how highly-placed they may be
THE CHALLENGES OF THE NIGERIAN FOREIGN POLICY AND SUB-REGIONAL SECURITY INTERVENTION UNDER PRESIDENT IBRAHIM BABANGIDA ADMINISTRATION FROM 1985 TO 1993
This paper examines the Challenges of Nigerian Foreign Policy and Sub-Regional Security Intervention under President Ibrahim Babangida from 1985 to 1993 The paper reviewed existing related literature using both thematic and conceptual methods. The paper adopted the theory of national interest to explain how the regime used the theory to politically justify her actions and mobilize support for their decisions The paper employed the use of secondary data where books, articles, journal and documentary records were interrogated in order to generate the data required for the study. The study found out that even though the Babangida regime made some radical giant stride in Nigerian foreign policy, especially with the introduction of economic diplomacy, the regime was not devoid of challenges which have been highlighted in this paper. Finally, the paper concludes that Nigerian foreign policy under the President Ibrahim Babangida regime like other successive Nigerian regimes have, in general, shown a lack of sensitivity and responsiveness to popular pressures and input into the foreign policy formulation process and specific aspects of its sub-regional intervention
AGRICULTURAL GEOPHYSICAL INVESTIGATION IN RESOLVING LAND AND OPTIMUM EXPLOITATION CHALLENGES AT IBBU LAPAI FARM SITE, NIGERIA
Geophysical techniques have become very valuable and indispensable tool in addressing the agricultural activities challenges ranging from; soil quality determination, monitoring and appropriate usage challenges, etc. Agricultural geophysical investigations are therefore, generally focused on delineating geologic features within the soil profile at depth range within the crop root zone (0 to 2 m depth) over very large farm size. Consequently, Geophysical characterization using high resolution Vertical Electrical Sounding (VES) with Schulumberger electrode array was conducted at a portion of the IBBUL farm site to delineate the subterranean geologic features of interest to agricultural output yields. The results revealed the lithological units in the study area. The analysis of VES points 1 and 3 revealed lithological units of highest moisture contents with resistivity variation of (19.00 to 79.80) Ώm. Three distinct geo-electric layers were delineated in the study area; (first layer) shallow subsurface with the highest moisture contents, (second layer) a good aquifer unit and (third layer) weathered Basement complex. The weathered layer (second layer) has the highest resistivity range of between (22.87 and 304.00) Ώm. It exhibited some observed presence of fractured parts acting as high yield point for the good groundwater resource within the farm site. From the delineated subsurface properties, this farm land may have high agricultural yields at VES points 1 and 3, while VES points 4 with higher resistive (31.31 and 156.00) Ώm geologic features may be best for locating heavy agricultural infrastructures. Venturing into Precision and dry season farming are recommended for the IBBUL University at the investigated portion of the farm site considering the soil quality and the viable groundwater potentials
