    Narrative Identity and Leadership Development in the Information and Communication Industry

    Narrative identity theory is a psychological framework that emphasizes the role of personal narratives happening in one\u27s sense of self-identity. This theoretical paper explores how narrative identity theory can inform leadership development programme by emphasizing the use of storytelling to enhance self-awareness, authenticity, and leadership effectiveness. This paper further explores the relevance of this theory in the information and communication industry, particularly in relation to how individuals use and understand media content. Drawing on recent research and theories in the field, this paper argues that incorporating Narrative identity into leadership development programme can provide leaders with a deeper understanding of their values, motives, and experience, thereby enabling them to lead with greater authenticity and effectiveness

    The research examined Poverty and Anchor Borrowers Programme in Agrarian Communities of Lapai Local Government Area, Niger State Nigeria (2016-2021). The research objectives, are to describe the socioeconomic characteristics of anchor borrower\u27s beneficiaries, determine the impact of Anchor Borrowers programme on poverty alleviation, examine the effect of Anchor Borrowers Programme services on the productivity of the beneficiaries, and investigate the loan recovery rate and other challenges of the programme. Null hypotheses were formulated to guide the research, that Anchor Borrowers programme has no significant impact on poverty alleviation, there is no significant effect of Anchor Borrowers programme services on the productivity of the beneficiaries, there are no significant problem in loan recovery rate and other challenges in Anchor Borrowers programme. The sample size of the study was 377 and was randomly selectedusing Slovin\u27s formula. The data collected from the field was analyzed using descriptive statistics. Regression was used to test the first and second null hypotheses at alpha level of 0.05 level of significance using SPSS20, while Chi-square was used in testing the third and fourth null hypotheses. The result of the research hypotheses established a significant impact of Anchor Borrowers on the poverty alleviation. Based on the findings, the research concluded that Anchor Borrowers Programme has contributed immensely in alleviating poverty among the beneficiaries. It contributed in the development of agriculture, employment generation among the beneficiaries and there are significant challenges in the implementation of the programme. It was therefore, recommended that Anchor Borrower Programme should cover more farmers, especially female farmers by increasing funds and making sure real farmers benefit from the programme

    AN ASSESSMENT OF THE CAUSES AND EFECTS OF YOUTH RESTIVENESS IN MINNA METROPOLIS, NIGER STATE

    This study assessed the causes and effects of youth restiveness in Minna metropolis, Niger State. Data for the study were collected from both primary and secondary sources. The primary source comprises the used of questionnaire and interview, while the secondary source consists of text books, journals, thesis, manuals and other unpublished papers. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptivestatistical tools through the use of frequency, percentage and tables. Purposive and snowballing sampling techniques were used to select the required sample for the study. Findings of the study revealed that unemployment, poverty, substance abuse as well as activities of some unpatriotic politicians significantly contribute to the formation of violent gangs and their activities. Study also reveals that violent gang activities is associated with a number of unwanted consequences suchas vandalism, rape, arson, burglary, murder, robbery, ethno-religious militancy and kidnapping among others.The study recommends that, to reduce or solve the problem of youth restiveness a favorable government policy that will provide job opportunities, poverty reduction, education, skill acquisition, moral and value reorientation etc should be provided to guide the youth. In addition,counselling services should be made available to youths in schools and out of schools

    COMPARATIVE STUDY OF MALAYSIA AND NIGERIA\u27S INDUSTRIALIZATION POLICY PERFORMANCE (1960-2021)

    Malaysia and Nigeria were once both classified as third world countries, they both went through colonial experience and developmental struggles. At the early stages of development, both Malaysia and Nigeria were primary producers. They export raw materials abroad as their source of foreign exchange. Malaysian economy for example, was based on exportation of rubber and tin to Britain while Nigeria was exporting agricultural products like cocoa, cotton, rubber, palm oil and groundnut before the discovery of oil in commercial quantity. This paper is a comparative study of industrial policies of Nigeria and Malaysia from 1980 to 2021, with focus on the nature of industrial policies, struggles for achieving such policies, level of achievements and the lessons Nigeria is expected to learn. This study used secondary data from research reports, books and journal. The data were analysed in thematically. The study adopted modernization and dependency theories as framework for analysis. The paper argued that despite the challenges, Malaysia has recorded huge achievements in her industrialization policies beyond Nigeria despite the huge oil revenue accrued in the years past and vast arable land in Nigeria

    ARMED BANDIT OPERATION IN RAFI LOCAL GOVERNMENT, NIGER STATE: IMPLICATIONS ON HUMAN AND FOOD SECURITY

    Incessant attacks of law abiding citizens by bandits have become a serious security challenge in Niger State and Rafi Local Government in particular. The research is on criminal armed bandit operation in Rafi Local Government, Niger State, Nigeria. The study adopted a descriptive survey method; samples of 100 respondents were selected from the most affected districts of local government where banditry activities strive. Questionnaire was used as major instrument of data collection; in-depth interviews were also conducted to elicit further information from respondents. The routine activity theory was adopted to explain the issue under investigation. Findings suggested that kidnapping for ransom, cattle rustling, collection of farmlands amongst others were major activities and nature of the phenomenon while the loss of lives, farmlands, psychological depression amongst others weredis2covered to be the major effects bandits activities in the study area. The study recommends the provision of more sophisticated detection equipment in the rural areas for early detection of arrival and settlement of bandits in the forestlands among other recommendations

    MODERATING EFFECT OF RISK MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE ON THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN BOARD CHARACTERISTICS AND FINANCIAL REPORTING QUALITY

    This study examined the moderating effect of risk management committee on the relationship between boardcharacteristics and financial reporting quality among listed non-financial firms in Nigeria. The study employedex post facto research design. The population of the study consisted of 116 non-financial companies quoted onthe Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) as at 31st December, 2020. The sample size of forty-nine (49) companieswas determined using the Taro Yamane sampling size technique. Data collected for this study were solely fromsecondary sources. Data were extracted from the Published Audited Accounts and Financial Statements and theAnnual Reports of the listed non-financial firms in Nigeria. The study adopted the use of multiple regression toanalyse the data. The result of the fixed effect regression as suggested by the Hausman specification testrevealed that risk management committee has significant moderating effect on the relationship between boardgender diversity, board financial expertise, board independence and financial reporting quality among listednon-financial firms in Nigeria. On the other hand, the study found that risk management committee as amoderator has no significant moderating effect on the relationship between board size and financial reportingquality among listed non-financial firms in Nigeria. This is because the presence of board size adds little or noimprovement to financial reporting quality. Hence, from the findings, the study concluded that risk managementcommittee is indeed a viable governance strategy aimed at improving the financial reporting quality throughthe scrutiny of the assessment and disclosure of risks inherent in the company. From the findings and conclusion,the study recommended that non-financial companies should strengthen their corporate governance systemthrough establishment of a risk management committee to dissect the vulnerable areas that might threaten thegoing concern of the companies

    This study examined the relationship between psychosocial factors and psychological wellbeing of teachers in Benin Metropolis of Edo State, Nigeria. It specifically sought to find out to what extent job motivation, work environment and personality styles of teachers correlate with teachers’ psychological wellbeing in the study area. Four research questions were raised, research question one was answered while questions two to four were hypothesized and tested at 0.05 level of significance. The study adopted a correlational survey research design. The population of the study comprised of all the 1036 teachers in the public secondary schools in Benin Metropolis while multistage sampling procedure was used to select 240 teachers from the population. Four research instruments were adapted and used for data collection. They include the IPIP Big-Five Factors Markers by Goldberg (1992), for Personality style; Employee Survey Questionnaire by Kinne (2023), for work environment; Employee Motivation Questionnaire by Kinne (2023), for job motivation; and Ryff (1989) scale, for psychological wellbeing. The generated data was analyzed using Pearson Product Moment Correlation. The findings revealed that there is a significant relationship between teachers’ psychological wellbeing and their job motivation. The findings also revealed that there is a significant relationship between the psychological wellbeing and work environment of teachers in Benin Metropolis of Edo State, Nigeria. The study further reveals that significant relationship personality styles of the teachers and their psychological will being. Based on these findings, it was recommended among others that School Administrators should ensure healthy work environment for their teachers for improved wellbeing

    INFLUENCE OF SELF-ESTEEM AND SOCIAL SUPPORT ON DRUG ABUSE AMONG STREET CHILDREN IN MAKURDI METROPOLIS

    This study investigated assessment of psychoactive drug used and abused among street children in Makurdi metropolis in Benue State, Nigeria. The study employed ex-post facto research design. Two hundred (200) participants were randomly drawn from Makurdi metropolis in Benue State through stratified, convenience and simple random sampling methods. Self-esteem scale, social support scale and drug abuse screening scale were used for data collection. Three hypotheses were tested using multiple regression and simple linear regression analyses. The findings showed that self-esteem has no significant influence on psychoactive drug used among street children; however, the statistical values for each finding showed that social support has no significant influence on psychoactive drug used among street children. There was no significant joint influence of self-esteem and social support on substance abuse among street children. Based on these findings, it was concluded that self-esteem has no significant influence on psychoactive drug used among street children. Social support has no significant influence on psychoactive drug used among street children Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended that parents and guardians should help children to identify and value themselves so as to boast their self-esteem. Parents, government, and NGOs should give support to children in order to encourage them by quitting drugs abuse. Children engaged in drug use are also encouraged to go for rehabilitation for proper treatment

    Brand Image and Customer Purchase Intention in Nigeria’s Telecommunications Sector

    This study examines the effect of brand image on consumer purchase intentions in the Nigerian telecommunication sector. A survey was administered to a sample of 1,000 individuals in Katsina State, Nigeria revealing their level of familiarity and knowledge of the leading telecommunication brands in the country. The survey data was analyzed using structural equation modelling to examine the effect of brand image on consumer purchase intentions in Nigerian telecommunication sector. Results showed that brand image had a positive and significant effect on consumer purchase intentions in Nigerian telecommunication sector. The findings of this study provide valuable insights into consumer behaviour and could assist marketers in developing efficient strategies to improve consumers’ purchase intentions for their brand. Implications of the findings and future research directions were discussed
