The study examined the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on the value relevance of accounting information of the quoted deposit money banks in Nigeria. Given the unprecedented level of shocks the pandemic has caused in the global financial market, it is considered imperative to investigate the market reactions as a result of the pandemic. It used censures sampling of all the 14 deposit money banks quoted on the Nigerian Exchange group between 2017 and 2022. The data collected were subjected to descriptive analysis, correlation analysis and a panel multiple regression analysis to investigate possible effects of COVID-19 pandemic on the value relevance of accounting information. The results revealed that COVID-19 pandemic has impaired the usefulness of accounting information in investors’ decision making. In addition, the study reported a decline in explanatory power of earnings and book value of equity in post pandemic period, thus the value relevance of accounting information declined significantly as a result of COVID-19 pandemic and related economic lockdown. The results documented that the economic lockdown as a result of COVID-19 pandemic lowered the appropriateness of accounting figure which consequently led to declining value relevance of accounting information. Therefore, the study recommended that policy makers such as the financial reporting council of Nigeria should strengthen policies that will improve the information content of the book value of equity and earnings per share in the financial statement in order to continue to make it significantly relevant to investors in their investment decision making and in addition, preventive and curtaining measures must be put in place to cushion the impact of pandemic on share prices in order to enhance investors’ confidence

This study sought to ascertain whether environmental disclosure matters to performance of quoted industrial goods companies in Nigeria or not. Panel data were collected from the annual reports and accounts of 12 industrial goods companies for a period of 10 years (from 2013 to 2022) and analyzed using multiple regressions. Results indicated that environmental disclosure significantly and negatively affects performance using Tobin’s Q. On the other hand, it insignificantly and positively affected ROE. It is therefore, concluded that, environmental disclosure is a major determinant of financial performance based on Tobin’s Q but not a major determinant of financial performance based on ROE. The study recommended among other things that, the implementation of environmental disclosure in organizations should be encouraged by managers, for this would enable them identify products with greater environmental costs to the organization; and these could become useful measures of departmental performance evaluation and product profitability assessment, which in the long run might improve companies’ financial performance

RESIDUAL EFFECTS OF INTEGRATED NUTRIENT MANAGEMENT ON PERFORMANCE OF SWEET POTATO (IPOMOEA BATATAS (L.) LAM) VARIETIES IN SOUTHERN GUINEA SANANNAH OF NIGERIA
The Field experiment was carried out in 2020 cropping seasons at the Research Farm of Federal University of Technology Minna to assess the residual effects of integrated nutrient management on the performance of sweet potato varieties as well as their residual effects on soil properties. Treatments consisted of factorial combinations with two varieties of sweet potato (Butter milk and Umuspo1) laid in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. The results showed that there was no statistical difference on the establishment count of two sweet potato varieties at 2 and 4 WAP. However, statistical significant difference was recorded in control with lowest establishment count at 2 and 4 WAP respectively. Also, there was no significant difference in vine length between the treatments at 4, 6,8,10 WAP respectively, except in control which recorded lowest vine length. There was significant difference in number of leaves at 4 and 6 WAP between the treatments and varieties, but no significance difference was observed at 8 and 10 WAP. Significant difference was observed in number of branches at 4, 6, 8, and 10 WAP between the treatments and varieties. The results showed that the application of 200 kg ha-1 NPK + 1.5 t ha -1 PM recorded highest number of tubers and highest tuber yield. It therefore recommended that farmers in this agro-ecological zone should apply 200 kg ha-1 NPK + 1.5 t ha -1 PM for high yield of sweet potatoes
ETHNIC NATIONALITIES AND THE CHALLENGE OF NATIONAL INTEGRATION IN POST-COLONIAL NIGERIA
Nigeria’s independence in 1960 brought hope for nation-building and accelerated development to her people. However, this expectation remained elusive due to the inability to evolve a strong united entity (nation) out of the conglomeration of groups in the country. National integration constitutes a major challenge in Nigeria’s nation-building and quest for development. The 1914British amalgamation brought peoples of different socio-cultural, economic and political backgrounds together. The British conducted this exercise for its colonial convenience without consideration for the diversity of the people. Indeed, the British geared their colonial policies towards satisfying the needs of the loose federation. Therefore, after independence, the challenge of national integration became more manifest in Nigeria, as characterized by mutual suspicion, ethnic and inter-tribal clashes, religious crises, political unrest and the pursuit of ethnic interests. This study examines the dynamics of Nigeria’s heterogeneity, the challenge of integration and the prospects of turning the country’s diversity into strength. A historical research method, comprising the use of primary and secondary sources, was employed. The study identifies some of the hindrances to national integration in Nigeria including the triumph of ethnic nationalism, continuous domination and marginalisation of minority groups, and ethnic, religious and political crises, all stemming from the country’s weak federal system. The study recommends a sovereign national conference to strengthen Nigeria’s federalism and the reinvigoration of the nation\u27s integrating apparatuses
