    TEST ANXIETY, SOCIAL ANXIETY AND ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT AMONG UNIVERSITY STUDENTS IN NORTH-WEST ZONE, NIGERIA.

    This paper investigated the relationship among Test Anxiety, Social Anxiety and Academic Achievement of University Students in North-West Zone Nigeria. This research employed correlational design. The population of this study is made up of 11,225 300 level students. The sample of this study is 370 students from three selected universities. Simple random sampling technique was used to select the subjects of the study. Two instruments were used for data collection. The instruments are Zung Self-Rating Anxiety Scale, and Social Anxiety Scale (SAS). Students’ CGPA was used as measure of academic achievement. Zung Self- Rating Anxiety Scale had an internal consistency of .804 while Social Anxiety Scale had an internal consistency of .768. The data collected were analyzed using inferential statistics. Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC) statistics was used to test the null hypotheses at 0.05 levels of significance. The findings of the study revealed that a significant negative relationship exists between test anxiety and academic achievement (r = -0.575, p = 0.000). The result also revealed that significant negative relationship exist between social anxiety and academic achievement (r = -0.469, p = 0.002). It was recommended that: psychologists and counsellors should be encouraged to use various counselling techniques in managing students with test anxiety issues as it affects their academic achievement; and university management should provide a functional guidance and counselling center that will cater for students with test anxiety and social anxiety issues in order to improve their academic achievement

    Efficiency of distressed property sales in Lagos city, Nigeria

    With recourse to data obtained from the online multiple listing services (MLS) of the Nigerian Property Centre, this study evaluated the efficiency of sale of distressed properties in Lagos city using a 6-month interval of observations protocol, comprising of listings of less than 6 months, 7 to 12 months, 13 to 18 months, and 19 to 24 months respectively. Time-on-the-market (TOM) in this study was perceived to be the duration (in months) from the listing date to the date of data collection. Results of selected parametric and non-parametric statistical tests indicated that there was an insignificant difference in the observation of distressed properties that have remained on the market for at most 6 months and those with marketing time beyond 6 months. Similarly, properties listed for distressed sales in Lagos city were found to have continuously attracted lower purchase rates in the same manner as the non-distressed properties. These results avowed the phenomenon of inefficient sale of distressed properties in Lagos city, Nigeria. It was recommended by the study that individuals and institutions in property brokerage business in Lagos city should conduct a risk assessment of the diminishing likelihood of distressed sales and the incremental losses associated with lengthy listing periods

    The study examine the growing wave of insecurity in the country and it advert effect on the citizens in the country as it displaced them from their homes which is affecting their means of livelihood. Displacement occurred in the form of violence, armed conflicts/banditry and violation of human rights. The study focus on the remote causes of the displacement with the purpose of proffering measures in curtailing the menace. The role played by government in handling the various causes of displacement and creating an avenue for their returning back to their place of habitation.  This study remmends that government at all levels has to ensure peaceful co-existence of its citizen with a high level of patriotism, respects for belief, culture and tradition, fundamental human rights

    Sovereign Wealth Fund and Fiscal Performance: A Case of Nigeria in the Midst of Other Natural Resources Rich Countries in Africa

    In spite of several postulations that sovereign wealth fund’s stabilization fund promotes smoothness in the fiscal performance of nations, there are contrary views that it does not. This study investigates the impact of sovereign wealth fund on fiscal performance using Nigeria and 21 other natural resources rich countries in Africa with data spinning from 2003 to 2018. The study made use of Two-Step System GMM and found that sovereign wealth funds have about 0.8 percent positive insignificant impact on the fiscal performance implying that having a sovereign wealth fund in place improves nation\u27s fiscal performance. Consequently, the study recommends that the governments and the management of the various existing funds in Africa should put in more efforts in improving sovereign wealth fund performance; natural resources rich Africa countries without sovereign wealth fund should consider establishing theirs; and the control of corruption, strengthen of financial institutions, reduction in the cost of oil production and increase in general revenue should be taken seriously as they enhance fiscal performance

    Analysis of Stream and Well Water Quality for Domestic Use in Minna Metropolise, Niger State, Nigeria

    This study analyzed stream and well water quality for domestic use in Minna Metropolise, Niger State, Nigeria. Water sources have become critically contaminated due to anthropogenic activities. Samples of stream and well water were taken for laboratory test. The laboratory tests analysed twenty four constituents (5 physical elements, 5 metal elements, 13 chemical elements and one microbial element) that were compared with World Health Organization (WHO) standard for domestic drinking water to ascertain the safety of the water. The result showed that temperature rise (29.20C) of water was common in both stream and well waters. Other parameters were within the WHO recommended allowable limits. The study has suggested environmental education and water treatment strategies to curb the menace of contaminated water in Minna city, Niger State, Nigeria without further delay

    YOUTH EMPOWERMENT: A STRATEGIC INSTRUMENT TO CURB INSECURITY IN NIGERIA.

    The scourge of unemployment has ravaged almost all nations of the world in different dimensions. The Nigerian situation is further compounded by the recent economic crisis that has crippled businesses and the prospect of securing jobs for young people. In the light of the above assertion, this study examine youth empowerment as a strategic tool the curb insecurity in Nigeria. This paper relies basically on secondary sources of data consisting oftextbooks, periodicals, journal publications, and other documentary sources such as internet and published empirical research reports. The findings from the study reveals that youth unemployment has resulted in incessant crime such as kidnapping, armed robbery, militancy, oil bunkering, internet scam, car snatching, prostitution, murder, cultism among others. The study recommends that insecurity could be curbed through improving on infrastructure both in the urban and rural areas, revitalization of some collapsed industries, allocating moremoney to education sector, providing enabling environment that will encourage development of entrepreneurship skills, establishing more vocational and technical schools, encouraging agriculture and fighting corruption

    Informal entrepreneurship is a vital aspect of economic activity in Nigeria, which has become very popular due to its capacity to generate income and employment, thus, reducing poverty and enhanced skills acquisition. This study examined the connection between casual business venture and supportable improvement in Nigeria with consideration regarding chosen private companies situated in Lagos state. 327 respondents were randomly chosen. Data collection was done through independent survey. Data gathered was analyzed using recurrence count and basic rates while regression was utilized to test for planned speculations at 5% degree of importance. The findings showed a huge positive relationship with casual business and supportable improvement in Nigeria. The result also identified some of the challenges confronting the conversion of informal entrepreneurship to formal entrepreneurship and make it more functional. Based on the findings, the study recommended that the government intervention through granting loans to industrious entrepreneur still operating in the informal setting in exchange for them to formalize their enterprises. Government should provide training ground for youth entrepreneurs that will motivate them to think bigger and get better such that, they will see formalizing their enterprise as a step for development

    EFFECT OF INNOVATION ON THE PROFITABILITY OF MICRO, SMALL AND MEDIUM ENTERPRISES (MSMEs) IN BIDA METROPOLIS

    Micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), are the foundation of every nation\u27s economy. To assure the necessary rate of economic growth, innovation among micro, small, and medium-sized firms (MSMEs) in Nigeria is essential for their survival. Every micro, small, and medium-sized organization experiences innovation in a variety of areas. They include both process and product innovations. This study examined the effect of innovation on the profitability of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Bida metropolis. The research method used for the study was survey. A structured questionnaire with a 5-point Likert scale was the instrument utilized. Using a census technique, a sample of fifty-four (54) MSMEs in the Bida local government was chosen. Multiple Regression analysis was used to examine the data collected through surveys. The findings of the regression analysis demonstrate that innovation has a favorable and substantial impact on the success of MSMEs in the Bida metropolitan. The study therefore recommended among others. As a result of innovation\u27s beneficial effects on MSMEs\u27 profitability, Niger State MSMEs have to adopt new products and business innovation. Entrepreneurs and potential entrepreneurs must be open to different innovation strategies. They should be ready to encourage their employees to innovate by empowering them. The government should support the innovation of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises through grants andsubsidies

    EFFECTS OF DISPERSED RURAL SETTLEMENT PATTERNS ON ACCESS ROADS IN YONOV COMMUNITY LOGO LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF BENUE STATE, NIGERIA.

    This study examines the relationship between dispersed rural settlement patterns and rural access roads in Yonov community of Logo local government area of Benue state. The research is born out of the desire to investigate why rural settlements in Benue state particularly Tiv speaking area lack basic infrastructural amenities like rural access roads among others. The study adopted a survey research method. Using Taro Yamane sampling technique, respondents were selected from the area and other critical stakeholders. With a sampled population of 327 respondents, the questions sought to find out to what extent the dispersed settlement patterns affected the construction and accessibility of rural roads in the community. The results show that the dispersed settlement pattern in the area affected these indices negatively. The study therefore recommended that the government should encourage the community to resettle in clusters through the provision of incentives and the establishment of a market in the area. The government should also construct a motorable road which will be continuously maintained. This will also increase value for their crops hence ready access to markets and less damage to their crops and increase quality of life for the people

    Micro-Savings and Financial Performance of Microenterprises in Kaduna State: The Moderating Effects of Innovation

    Microenterprises financial performance may be improved through micro-savings when done innovatively. The study investigates the moderating effect of innovation on the link between micro-savings and financial performance of microenterprises in Kaduna State, to ascertain its indirect influence towards addressing the dismal financial performance of microenterprises in Kaduna State. Two hypotheses were formulated and Multiple Regression technique aided by SPSS used to analyze the relationship between financial performance and micro-savings with innovation as moderator. The descriptive research design and the stratified proportionate random sampling were used to collect data from 413 microenterprises via questionnaire. The regression result shows that micro-savings has positive and significant effect on financial performance of microenterprises. Again, the result indicates that innovation has significant moderate effect on the relationship between micro-savings and financial performance of microenterprises in Kaduna State. The study concludes that there is moderating effect of innovation on the relationship between micro-savings and financial performance of micro-enterprises in Kaduna State. The study recommends that microenterprises aside embracing micro-savings to build up assets for improved financial performance, should deploy substantially micro-savings finance on innovation, for positive effect on their financial performance in Kaduna State
