    No full text
This study investigated the factors influencing motivation and performance of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) workers in Minna. The research employed a mixedmethods triangulation research design, utilizing both a questionnaire and an interview guide to collect primary data.A total of 400 questionnaires were distributed using random sampling method while interview were conducted with 5 senior management staff using purposive sampling. Data collected was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistic of frequency distribution tables, percentages and spearman rank-order correlation. According to the studies, the key factor driving motivation and performance among INEC staff in Minna is monetary incentives, particularly in the form of bonuses. Subsequently, car and rent loans, along with trust and respect towards the staff, and opportunities for staff development, play substantial roles. Conversely, the provision of suitable accommodation ranked lower in terms of influence. The findings from the hypothesis test reveal a significant association between the onetary motivation packages offered to INEC Minna employees and their job performance. This association is substantiated by a strong correlation coefficient of 0.758 and a remarkably low p-value of 0.000.In light of these findings, it is strongly recommended that the inclusion of monetary incentives, such as salary increments and bonuses, should be integrated into the overall salary structure for INEC staff. This strategic implementation is expected to serve as a deterrent against election malpractice among commission staff, enhancing the integrity and fortifying the electoral process for the foreseeable future

The conventional social science assumption is that poverty inhibits the political participation of citizens. Hence, the prospect of sustaining a democratic government amid mass poverty is far lower than in a relatively wealthy one. However, empirical studies outside Western democracies have shown this conventional assumption to be flawed. Poverty is widespread in Nigeria, and political infrastructures are developing, leading to a high cost of political participation. Thus, understanding the patterns of political participation in Nigeria, where a significant number of the population is living below the poverty line and democratic institutions are still emerging, becomes necessary. This study examined the effect of income poverty on political participation in Yobe State, Nigeria. The study employs a quantitative method research design that uses a questionnaire to collect data. Thedata collected was analyzed using SPSS statistical package software. The study employed descriptive statistics to examine the relationship between income poverty and political participation. Regression analysis was also employed to identify the factors that influence political participation. The findings indicate that income poverty has a significant effect on political participation. Similarly, education has a relationship with political participation. The study recommends that to improve the politicalparticipation of the poor efforts should be made to intensify poverty alleviation, reduce the cost of political participation such as reducing institutional challenges associated with political participation and commercialization of politics, and the National Orientation Agency (NOA) should engage in massive enlightenment of the citizen on the importance of political participation; especially on Facebook

This paper attempts to assess the effectiveness of the amnesty policy by the Katsina State government. The conflict transformation theory is adopted as the framework of analysis and qualitative method of data collection was used. A survey of the affected communities was conducted and the result indicates that, the amnesty programme has largely helped in curbing the activities of most of criminal gangs involved in attacking villages in the state and agricultural activities have returned in the affected Local Government Areas. It is recommended that government should decreased game reserve areas so that these cattle rustlers would not have hidden areas to cheat farmers, innocent Fulani people and community at large and government should also fulfill its promises like the promise of providing basic infrastructure which makes life more pleasant

This article evaluate the performance traits and visceral organs of broiler chickens fed with maize cob as source of fiber. A feeding trial was conducted using 150day old broiler chicks (Agrited) allotted into five treatments of three replicates each with 10 chicks per replicate in a completely randomized design (CRD). Diet 1 contain wheat offal as the control, Diets 2, 3, 4 and 5 contains 25, 50, 75 and 75 % Maize cob, respectively. Data Collection were processed and analyzed using SPPS version 20.0 and means that were significantly different were separated using Duncan’s New Multiple Range Test (Duncan, 1955). The results obtained showed that there were no significant (p>0.05) differences in the initial weight among the treatment, from the feed intake, birds fed with 25% of maize cob had the highest average values in the parameters (3263.30g). The final weight of the birds fed the test ingredients showed that there was statistically significant difference between birds in T1and T5 group but T2 had the highest value (1400.00g) and the least final weight gain was recorded in T4 (1000.00g). Birds fed with (100%) of maize cob T5 recorded the highest percentage of mortality at 16.66% followed by T4 (13.33%) and T3 (10%) while T2 (25%) of maize cob recorded the least mortality at 3.33%. Also most of the parameters of visceral organs revealed no significant difference in the treatment groups. It was thus concluded that birds fed with (25%) of maize cob had the highest final weight gain and lowest mortality rate and as such can be used as an alternative source of fiber in broiler chicken’s diets
