The Influence of Digital Advertising on Consumer Buying Behaviour: A Comparative Study of Urban and Semi-Urban Areas in Nigeria
The digital revolution has fundamentally transformed advertising practices across Africa, with digital platforms emerging as powerful tools for consumer engagement. This study examines the influence of digital advertising on consumer buying behaviour in Nigeria\u27s urban and semi-urban contexts, specifically comparing Abuja FCT and Taraba State. Using a survey design, data were collected from 392 respondents across the two locations. The study adopts Uses and Gratifications Theory as its theoretical framework. Findings reveal Facebook as the most utilised platform for digital advertising exposure, with 65.3% of residents moderately exposed to digital advertising. Whilst digital advertising positively influences consumer perceptions and purchasing decisions, its effectiveness varies significantly between urban and semi-urban areas. Statistical analysis confirmed significant differences in the impact of purchase decisions between contexts (p < .001). Key challenges include poor digital media literacy (82.1%), inadequate platform regulation (73.8%), and network accessibility issues (67.3%). The study recommends improving digital infrastructure, enhancing media literacy programmes, and implementing comprehensive platform regulation policies
Citizenship Education as a Catalyst for Improving Entrepreneurship Activities in Nigeria
In the face of rising youth unemployment, social fragmentation, and economic stagnation in Nigeria, there is an urgent need to rethink how education can be used as a catalyst for national transformation. This study examines the intersection of citizenship education, entrepreneurship, and innovation as a strategic framework for fostering youth empowerment and sustainable development in Nigeria. It critically examines how citizenship education, traditionally focused on civic responsibility and national identity, can be leveraged to instil values such as ethical leadership, social accountability, and critical thinking, traits essential for entrepreneurial success. The research highlights the shifting role of entrepreneurship from purely private-sector ventures to include public entrepreneurship driven by civic consciousness. It also identifies key challenges, including weak curriculum integration, lack of trained educators, and poor infrastructure. The study concludes that integrating civic values into entrepreneurship education can produce a generation of socially responsible innovators capable of addressing Nigeria’s socio-economic challenges. Based on the findings, recommendations are made to enhance curriculum design, improve governance, and promote inclusive development through education

EFFECTS OF CLIMATE CHANGE AND FARMERS-HERDERS’ CONFLICTS ON THE SOCIO-ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT OF FARMERS IN ADAMAWA STATE
Climate change, such as drought, desertification, unpredictable rainfall, and rising temperatures, are evident in the region. These changes have exacerbated conflicts between farmers and herders, who compete over increasingly scarce natural resources. It is against this background that this study examines effects of climate change and farmers-herders’ conflicts on the socio-economic development of farmers in Adamawa State. Several impacts of climate change, such as drought, desertification, unpredictable rainfall, and rising temperatures, are evident in the region. These changes have exacerbated conflicts between farmers and herders, who compete over increasingly scarce natural resources. This study is quantitative in nature. Survey design was employed, using a structured questionnaire to gather primary data from 384 respondents. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics (percentages). The findings revealed irregular rainfall (71%), increased sunshine (74%), more frequent droughts (59%), and a decline in surface and underground water sources (80%). These climate-induced changes have led to significant conflicts between farmers and herders, resulting in social and psychological disorders (65%), loss of lives (67%), property damage (73%), and forced migration and displacement (74%). The study recommends improving farmers\u27 and herders\u27 adaptation strategies through effective water harvesting techniques, the establishment of public ranches equipped with modern technologies to manage herder movements and sustainable farming and livestock management system that will enhance resilience to climate change, such as agroforestry, crop rotation, and integrated pest management
A Semiotic Analysis of Selected Nigerian Movie Advertisement Posters
This research is a semiotic analysis of Nigerian movie advertisement posters. The study aims to analyse the semiotic resources within a selection of Nigerian movie posters, focusing on how they reflect the broader Nigerian cultural context and their effectiveness in film marketing. The methodology adopted for this research is qualitative content analysis, emphasising semiotic theory, which provides a structured approach to decoding the signs and symbols present in the posters. A purposive sampling of 5 movie posters from various genres from 2019 to 2023 was used to ensure a diverse representation of themes and cultural narratives. Data collection focused on the visual elements of the posters, such as colour schemes, typography, imagery, and iconography. Each element was analysed for its signifiers (the physical form of the signs) and signified meanings (the concepts or ideas they represent). The analysis uncovered several key findings. First, Nigerian movie posters heavily rely on cultural symbols, including traditional attire, local architectural motifs, and language, to convey hidden meanings related to Nigerian identity. Colours often evoke specific emotions and social associations, with vibrant hues symbolising themes like love, conflict, or national pride. Typography choices also played a significant role in shaping the tone of the films, from playful fonts in comedies to bold, sharp lettering in action films. The posters promoted the films and engaged with Nigerian societal values, depicting narratives of unity, tradition, modernity, and cultural pride
Exploring the Trend of Artificial Intelligence Application and its Transformation of Editorial Process in Nigerian Newspapers
This paper interrogates the emerging trend of Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications and their transformative impact on the editorial process of Nigerian newspapers. Situated within the theoretical framework of technological determinism and media ecology theories, the paper relied solely on secondary data through the review of relevant literature to explore the growing integration of AI in major editorial functions such as news content generation, news production, copyediting, layout design, and audience engagement. The paper revealed that AI enhances efficiency, content quality and personalisation while simultaneously reshaping journalistic roles and editorial decision-making. Although AI adoption in Nigerian journalism is still evolving, evidence from both international and domestic scenes indicates its ability to maximise editorial activities and build a stable media development. The paper concludes that to harness AI’s transformative potentials fully, there is a need for adequate personnel training, an appropriate regulatory framework, AI tool development tailored to local contexts, and the establishment of a regulatory framework that upholds journalistic values in Nigeria’s emerging media ecosystem

INFLUENCE OF RADIO NIGER IN PROMOTING THE USE OF IMPROVED SEED VARIETY BY NIGER STATE FARMERS
This study aims to unveil influence of radio Niger in promoting the use of improved seed variety by Niger state farmers. 150 farmers in Rafi local government formed the sample for the study after they were conveniently chosen by the researcher. The study rode on social responsibility theory of the media and it was discovered that majority of the farmers in the study area listen to Radio Niger news and programmes but little attention was paid in creating awareness, knowledge and the use of improved seed variety among the famers. It was also discovered that farmers don’t receive up-to-date information on agricultural practices which is very essential to farmers in the grassroots. The radio programme on agriculture were not effective to imbibe the use of bolting, boot stage, bulk seed, centerfield seed, companion crop etc. to aid multitude agricultural output. The study concluded that Radio Niger can excellently discharge its responsibility by exposing the famers on relevance of improved seed variety and how the adoption of this modern farming can increase crop outputs. The study however recommended that gatekeepers of Radio Niger should promote consistent transmission of agricultural programme on the use of improved seed variety among farmers in Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State
MONETIZATION OF PARTY PRIMARIES AND POLITICAL PARTICIPATION: IMPLICATIONS ON YOUTHS IN NIGERIA
Youth political participation in Nigeria has garnered increasing attention in recent years. Despite constituting a substantial segment of the population, young Nigerians encounter numerous challenges that hinder their active participation in the political process. One of the primary challenges is the exorbitant cost associated with engaging in the political process, particularly due to the highly monetized nature of party primaries within many political parties in Nigeria. This article therefore accessed the implications of highly monetized party primaries on youth political participation in Nigeria. The article utilizes a qualitative research methodology, specifically a narrative literature review, to examine the issue under examination. This approach involves synthesizing existing research on the subject through a qualitative lens. The data is collected from a diverse range of sources, including official documents, books, academic journals, newspapers, magazines, and other pertinent materials. The implication of monetized primaries in Nigeria is that it has widened the gap of youth sense of alienation, disillusionment and grievance-based violence. It has also worsened the crises of political marginalization, exclusion and unemployment. This paper recommends that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) should urgently place a cap on the prices of nomination and interest forms among political parties in Nigeria. Additionally, political parties should adopt direct primaries to allow all members, including the youth, to participate in the selection of candidates, thereby reducing the influence of political entrepreneurs or "money bags" from hijacking the process
PREVELENCE OF BETA-LACTAMASES IN MEMBERS OF THE GENUS SHIGELLA: : A REVIEW
Shigella species (Shigella sonnei, Shigella flexneri, Shigella dysenteriae and Shigella boydii), are major cause of shigellosis, and they are increasingly exhibiting resistance to antibiotics due to the production of beta-lactamase enzymes. Some common genes encoding beta-lactamases include blaTEM, blaSHV, and blaCTX-M and these genes can be found in various bacterial species, contributing to antibiotic resistance. This review highlights the distribution and prevalence of beta-lactamase-producing shigella species across various regions of the globe, also focusing on the significant prevalence of multidrug-resistant (MDR) and extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL) producing shigella strains and the Shigella spp. that is predominant in Asia, Africa, Europe, North America, Oceania (Australia) and South America. Africa has high prevalence of ESBL-producing shigella, with Shigella flexneri and Shigella dysentriae being the most dominant species. Asia has the highest number of reported cases on Shigella spp. which is also the highest globally, with Shigella flexneri and Shigella sonnei being the most prevalent species. Southern America has high prevalence of ESBL-producing shigella, with Shigella sonnei and Shigella flexneri being the most common species. Europe has moderate prevalence of ESBL-producing shigella, with Shigella sonnei being the dominant species. Oceania has low prevalence of ESBL-producing Shigella spp., although cases have been reported with moderate prevalence of both Shigella flexneri and Shigella sonnei and North America relatively has low prevalence of ESBL-producing Shigella spp. although cases have been reported particularly on Shigella sonnei. Africa and Asia has high prevalence (65% and above) of ESBL-producing shigella, Europe and Southern America has moderate/high prevalence (40% and above) and (50% and above) of ESBL-producing shigella respectively, while Oceania and North America has low prevalence of ESBL-producing shigella species (25% and above). The rising prevalence of these resistant strains pose a severe threat to public health, complicating treatment protocols and necessitating effective global surveillance, antibiotic stewardship, and coordinated public health strategies which are urgent ways of addressing the spread of beta-lactamase-producing shigella to limits its impact globally
