    No full text
This study evaluates the public relations activities at the Federal University of Lafia and the University of Jos, examining the pivotal role these activities play in enhancing the well-being of these institutions and their interactions with internal and external stakeholders. The presence of public relations departments in these universities validates their essential role in peace-building, conflict resolution, and crisis management necessary for the smooth day-to-day operations of these institutions. The study sought to address the significance, misconceptions, and value of the public relations departments in the universities regarding decision-making and peace-building between the internal and external public. Four clear objectives guided the study\u27s direction. The research adopted Ludwig Von Bertalanffy\u27s systems theory of mass communication as its theoretical framework, emphasising self-correcting systems where feedback leads to corrections in subsequent activities. This concept relates to public relations when evaluating an organisation as part of an interdependent whole. Using survey research design, questionnaires were administered, and findings revealed that an overwhelming majority of respondents (60.4%) affirmed that public relations activities in both universities effectively engage the general public. Additionally, 64.4% of respondents attested that public relations activities highly influence decision-making. The study identified funding as a significant setback for public relations activities in these institutions, and recommendations were provided to address these challenges

Percentage of non-management staff declined shapely, while, pre-privatization periods has smaller board size and percentage of management staff. In both periods, board chairman was not the CEO and Chairman Audit Committee was a non-executive director. Comparatively, cost of capital was higher pre-privatization period. The inferential statistic result reveals that, Privatization policy, workforce, board size have positive and significant impact on company’s cost of capital. While Total Market Value of Shares and Percentage of Non-Executive Directors have negative and significant impact on company’s cost of capital. However, the minority ownership has positive and insignificant impact on company’s cost of capital. The study recommends that, Nigerian government should ensure favourable macroeconomic environment such as stable exchange rate and low interest rate. The post privatization corporate governance has to be using retained earnings for further investment and running cost to avoid unnecessary financial burden due to high cost of capital in Nigeria. The findings may be useful to corporate stakeholders and government policy makers

    No full text
The yearly budgetary allocation on subsidy in Nigeria has remained a concern for policymakers and other agents of the economy as to whether it has achieved the targeted goal of economic growth in Nigeria. Thus, this study examined the impact fuel subsidy payments had on economic growth in Nigeria from 2005 to 2023. Secondary data were sourced from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Statistical Bullentin, the World Bank World Development Indicator (WDI) and the Nigerian Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative (NEITI) working paper. The data were converted into quarterly data for ease of analysis and estimation. Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth rate was used as the dependent variable while Fuel Subsidy Expenditure (FSE), Exchange Rate (EXC) and Inflation Rate (INF) were the independent variables. The long run relationship among the variables was confirmed using the Johansen Co-integration technique while the Vector Error Correction Model (VECM) technique of analysis was adopted for estimation of the data. The study found that a negative significant relationship exists between fuel subsidy expenditure and economic growth in Nigeria within the period under study. The study therefore recommends a re-direction of government expenditure on subsidy to other critical area of the economy that can propel the growth of the economy

Our study has used secondary data through bank’s annual audited reports extracted from their specific websites and DSE website. Our study used both descriptive and inferential analysis where data collected were analysed by using the STATA 15. This study examined influence of public opinion of Abuja residents on radio programming on environmental safety. The survey research method was adopted for the study. The subjects were drawn through convenient sampling technique. A five scale Lilert questionnaire was used to obtain responses from the subjects. Data collected for this study were analyzed using descriptive statistics of frequency, percentage. The findings showed that the radio stations in Abuja Municipal Area Council have not done enough in terms of awareness creation towards positive attitudes on environmental safety. In the light of the above, the study recommends that: It is important to have regular but aggressive sensitisation campaigns on environmental sanitations management by the radio stations in AMAC, which as a matter of significance, should be concerned of all stakeholders in environmental safety in AMAC. It is imperative for radio stations in AMAC to regularly sensitise the public on the need to manage our waste properly and other environmental issues

The Clamour for the Creation of more States in Nigeria and the Dilution of Powers of the Federal Government: An overview

    No full text
This study explores the evolution of Nigerian federalism since 1960, with a focus on the issue of state creation. Nigerian federalism, which originated from British colonial rule, has undergone numerous transformations, leading to the current structure of 36 states. The study examines the historical context, tracing the amalgamation of various kingdoms, empires, emirates, and caliphates into the Northern and Southern protectorates in 1914, and the subsequent divisions into regions and states. It analyzes the reasons behind the continuous agitation for more states, including the desire to address ethnic minority domination, ensure equitable resource distribution, and enhance grassroots governance. Despite these motivations, the study argues that state creation has not effectively mitigated interethnic tensions or promoted even development. The findings suggest that without a proper framework and implementation of federal principles, the clamor for additional states will persist. The study concludes with a call for the National Assembly to prioritize constitutional amendments that genuinely reflect the aspirations of the Nigerian people, emphasizing the importance of an inclusive and functional federal system
