Pagsasalin ng Nobelang ‘Lidia’ ni Juan Crisostomo Soto mula sa Wikang Kapampangan tungo sa Wikang Filipino (Translation of the Novel “Lidia” by Juan Crisostomo Soto from Kapampangan to Filipino)
One of the notable works considered in Kapampangan literature is the novel ‘Lidia’ by Juan Crisostomo Soto, recognized as the Father of Kapampangan Literature, which was published in 1907. The purpose of this study is to come up with a suggested translation of the novel ‘Lidia’ by Soto from the Kapampangan language to the Filipino language as a contribution to national literature. Using the process and method of prose translation according to Abueg, Batnag, and Petras, the translation of the work went through three processes—salita-sa-salita (word-for word) translation, diwa-sadiwa (meaning based), and revising the translation according to the consultant’s comments and suggestions. Five methods of translation emerged from this process as follows: (1) words that have no equivalent in the target language; (2) idioms in the natural flow of translation; (3) adapting the translation to the target language context; (4) considering the context and environment of the time of translation; and (5) the natural flow of the translation in the target language. From this, the research developed a suggested translation of the novel ‘Lidia’ that went through an intensive and complex translation process that can contribute to national literature.

Moral reasoning courseware for problem-solving in Values Education: Grade 8 students’ performances
A prototype Values Education courseware was developed in this study to use it as supplementary learning material to sharpen the moral reasoning skills of grade 8 students. The prototype courseware was designed according to the higher-order thinking skills of Bloom’s Taxonomy of educational objectives, which are barely reflected in the existing Values Education curriculum of the Philippines public schools. After having subjected the courseware to formative and summative evaluation by content and instructional design experts in Values Education, philosophy of education, educational psychology, curriculum studies, and educational technology and by target end users, a quasi-experimental analysis revealed that the use of the courseware resulted in significant improvement of student-participants’ moral reasoning skills. Thus, problem solvers who want critical thinking skills for problem-solving could significantly increase their abilities for the said task given the suitable assistive methods, tools, and training
Reaching the Marginalized: Do Education Expenditure and Other Indicators AlleviatePoverty in the Philippines
This study examines if government expenditure and other indicators alleviate poverty in the Philippines. This study employs time series data of unemployment rate, business confidence, and education expenditures from 2001-2022, making it to 21 observations. In this paper, several tests are used, namely Augmented Dickey-Fuller (ADF) for stationarity, Breusch Godfrey Serial Correlation LM Test, Variance Inflation Factor (VIF) for autocorrelation and multicollinearity. The Johansen Cointegration and the Pairwise Granger Causality Test were also performed to find out if there is a long-run relationship and causality between the variables. The results reveal that there is a long-run relationship and bidirectional causality between unemployment and poverty, also there is a longrun relationship but unidirectional causality between business confidence and poverty, while the education expenditures and poverty show no long-run relationship under the Johansen cointegration test and no causality under the Granger causality test. The findings suggest that policymakers should provide more job opportunities, enhance support for entrepreneurship, and allocate budgets for education properly to enhance the quality of education and ensure access for all
PARA LANG PO SA TABI: MAKA-PILIPINONG KATANGIAN NG LALABINTAUNIN SA PAGBUBUO NG KÁPWA SA KAPWA PASAHERO NG DYIP (Para lang po sa Tabi: Filipinonize Traits of Teenagers in Building Kápwa with Fellow Jeepney Passengers)
The jeepney is hailed as the "king of the road." This monarch of the streets is often adorned with vibrant colors, intricate decorations, and an extravagant design. Though an unseen part of our daily lives yet, it carries profound cultural significance symbolizing our Filipino identity. Within the jeepney the Filipino value of pakikipagkapwa is strongly manifested as the heart or most important among our Filipino values according to Virgilio Enriquez from the perspective of Sikolohiyang Pilipino. This study sought to explore how the concept of kapwa is formed among passengers who interact daily within this shared space. Employing the indigenous Filipino research methods of pagtatanong-tanong and pakikipagkuwentuhan by Javier, narratives were gathered and analyzed from ten lalabintaunin (adolescents). These narratives were interpreted using Enriquez\u27s Antasan ng Pagtutunguhan to provide a clear and in-depth discussion of how the concept of kapwa is developed. The study identified the following positive Filipino traits that emerge from this sense of shared identity among jeepney passengers: a. bayad po; b. pára po sa tabi; c. tinginan at pakiramdaman; d. kuwentuhan; e. limos at malasakit; and f. punuan at bigayan. On the other hand, certain negative Filipino traits among passengers also surfaced such as: a. pagwawalang bahala o walang pakialam; b. pagkagalit at pagdadabog; c. tsismisan; d. siksikan at singitan; e. budol; f. lamangan; and g. pakutuban
Komparatibong Analisis ng Sayaw na Ritwal ng Karakol sa Cavite Gamit ang Panata, Pagtitipon, at Pagdiriwang ni Anril Tiatco (Isang Preliminaryong Pag-aaral)
Karakol is a ritual dance performed by the people of the province of Cavite every time there is a feast of a Patron Saint or a “Poon” in a chapel or parish. However, in recent years, there has been a shift towards the use of modern music and modern steps and variations in dancing the ritual dance Karakol. This change has received different reactions from the people, especially with the older generations. Some people are criticizing these changes, and want to bring it back to the dance to its traditional style. However, some people perceive these changes as an opportunity to attract younger generations to go back to church and continue the tradition of dancing the Karakol. This research paper examines the changes in the Karakol ritual dance. Focusing on the evolution of the dance and its ritual, the motivations behind the changes from traditional religious Karakol, modern religious Karakol, to modern secular Karakol, a proposed categorization by Dioso and Demeterio in this paper on Karakol Ritual Dance. The theory of cultural performance, and Tiatco’s phenomenon of Panata, Pagtitipon, and Pagdiriwang are one of the bases of this paper, this study comparatively analyzed the three proposed categories of Karakol using the data from interviews and online videos and livestreams, visual ethnography during Karakol celebrations, as well as the personal experience of the researcher as a devotee and as a Karakol dancer. By identifying the cultural meanings and symbols expressed in the Cultural Performance, the study identified the differences in the suggested categories of Karakol in two old churches in Cavite, the Tanza Church and Rosario Church. In this sense, traditional religious Karakol is being overshadowed while the modern categories such as modern religious Karakol and modern secular Karakol are becoming more popular and more recognized by new devotees and Karakol dancers. This research is part of preliminary studies on this undocumented culture of devotion through the Karakol ritual dance
