    BANGKAY NI FORTUN

    Get PDF

“Living in an Alter World:” Pagsusuri sa Pagtatanghal ng Sarili at Pook-Pangkabuhayan ng mga Alter sa Mundo ng X (Dating Twitter) (“Living in an Alter World:” An Analysis of Self-Presentation and Livelihood Spaces of “Alter” Users on X (formerly Twitter)

X (formerly Twitter) is among the top five most utilized social media services in the Philippines. It serves as one of the most prolific virtual communities for the LGBTQIA+ community (Statista, 2022). Unknown to many, the Alterverse community in X was created because of the need for many gay males to freely express themselves on a particular platform. Using content analysis with the intention of studying specific groups, such as the Alters of X as social media users, this paper probes the current state of the Alter world after COVID-19. It was discovered in the study that the alter world is not exclusive to gays because of the varied presence of heterosexual content creators, resulting in the design of alter accounts exhibiting a different feature. The study shows that self-expression is the primary reason homosexual content creators establish alter accounts, whereas providing service using oneself in exchange for financial gains is the primary aim of heterosexual alter content creators. From this paper, it is evident that there is a presence of both homosexual and heterosexual content creators in the world of Alterverse in X. However, while both display similar actions, they differ in their goals. This result may be used in a deeper study on the lives of Alters.

Alternative Proof of Frullani\u27s Theorem and Applications in Evaluating Frullani Integrals

This article provides an alternative proof for the Frullani integral formula using an approach different from the existing one. This alternative proof gave us a novel method for evaluating certain improper integrals of Frullani type. Moreover, the alternative proof also obtained an exciting result relating the Frullani integral to a specific class of improper double integrals—the alternative proof started by stating and proving lemmas used as stepping stones to obtain the main proof. An essential condition was also imposed to obtain the desired result

This study focuses on the core values developed in a seventhgrade literary texts, which paved the way to the suggestion of a framework for effective values integration in literary texts. Through content analysis, interviews, and surveys, it was discovered that four core values are being developed in texts: maka-Diyos (love for God), Makatao (love for fellow men), maka-kalikasan (love for nature), and maka-bansa (love for the country); these core values are well-presented, and three of them are sometimes cultivated together depending on the topic being discussed. Research revealed through the significant response of the teachers that its cultivation is essential in integrating the text; it has a greater effect; it has an enormous impact on the student’s life, and the use of different methods and putting the teacher himself in the situation are methods of how to improve the teaching of values. The researchers recommended adopting the framework to develop and strengthen the educational program for values integration in Filipino 7, as a major step toward advancing transformational education in the country

ANG PUWERSA NG DAHAS NG WAR ON DRUGS SA TULANG 08/17/17 NI ALLAN POPA: The Force of Violence in the War on Drugs in Allan Popa’s Poem 08/17/17

The “war on drugs,” or campaign against illegal drugs, was the central program promoted from the election campaign period through the presidency of Rodrigo Duterte from 2016 to 2022. Promising to resolve the nation’s problems with illegal drugs and criminality within just three to six months, this campaign sparked discussions that extended far beyond crime suppression. Within this context, this paper delves into an analysis of Allan Popa’s short poems, focusing particularly on his piece 08/17/17. Employing the analytical framework of loob, ligid, at lalim as proposed by scholar Galileo Zafra, the paper seeks to explore how short literary forms can be instrumental in understanding and critically examining the narrative of violence in the war on drugs and the societal forces enforcing it. The analysis also integrates Bienvenido Lumbera’s concept of dating, offering a preliminary lens on the extent of the poem’s impact amidst the persistent violence of the war on drugs. Furthermore, Walter Benjamin’s critique of violence is used to encapsulate the notions of force and power exercised through violence, emphasizing the potential of short literary forms as a medium of social critique. This paper represents a preliminary effort to underscore literature’s critical role in giving voice to stories of the youth, such as Kian delos Santos, and in sustaining the calls for justice for victims of violence while advocating human rights

Gramsci and Possibilities of Organic Intellectuals as Agents of Filipino Proletarian Hegemony in Post-Duterte’s Necrofascism

    Get PDF
This paper explores the potential theoretical grounding of possible Gramscian intervention of organic intellectuals toward the construction of Filipino proletarian hegemony. The authors reflect on the relevance of the working classes in sustaining the world being inspired by Gramsci’s dedicated life to the proletarian cause. Further, the trajectory is the recent historical event of the global COVID-19 pandemic as well as localized in the Philippines under the necrofascist (stimulated by the scholar Achilles Mmbe’s term necropolitics) Duterte regime which we see as an event-basis to situate a reconsideration of the Gramscian theory that highlights the political involvement of the organic intellectuals. As the Philippines remains a backward agricultural sector and service-sector reliant economy in the service of the global capitalist mode of production, this study shows the abundant grounds for the development of Filipino proletarian hegemony in the Gramscian sense. This study takes on the continuing struggles from various social movements that arose since the pandemic as a basis for how a possible unitary hegemony can mobilize Filipinos toward proletarian emancipatory politics. Therefore, through the theory of Gramsci on organic intellectuals, the authors propose the necessity of an organic intellectual’s role of unifying the people and leading the proletarian hegemony that will be the basis of political emancipation. Now moving past the Duterte necrofascist regime, such proletarian hegemony can happen through people’s active creation of their class hegemony toward societal transformation. This paper closes with notes on forming a unitary bloc among classes and identities or using Mao Zedong’s signifier—people. Further, there should be a necessity in this people’s bloc what the theorists Laclau and Mouffee call hegemonic articulation

The Philosophical Thoughts of Vajiravudh: A Dialogical Analysis from the Perspective of Critical Filipino Philosophy

    Get PDF
Vajiravudh (1881-1925), or King Rama VI of Siam, son of Chulalongkorn (King Rama V) and brother of Prajadhipok (King Rama VII), was a writer, nationalist, reformist, known as the Maha Thiraraja (philosopher king), and a creative genius among the Thai people. His context of a semi-colonial country that was pressured to embrace globalization and modernization still resonates with theconditions of some parts of Southeast Asia, such as the Philippines. This paper explored his philosophical ideas from the point of view of critical Filipino philosophy, a family of discourses that can be traced back to the musings of the late 19th century Filipino propagandists, with the intention of gleaning meaningful lessons for the contemporary Filipino people. Specifically, this paper looked into Vajiravudh’s thoughts on nationalism and identity, the Chinese and Muslim minorities, modernization and international relations, politics, gender, and family, as well as on his use of literature in philosophizing. This paper is significant in building up the literature on comparative Southeast Asian philosophy

Pantayong Pananaw Bilang Dulog sa Teolohiyang Pilipino

    Get PDF
Colonial and elitist theology have been dominating the Philippine theological landscape for a very long time. This is a kind of theology that is Western and thus alienated from the reality of Philippine society, and written in English and therefore cannot be comprehended by the people. Because of this, a large part of theology as an academic discipline is still irrelevant to the Filipino context. One of the instruments that can serve as an antidote to this problem is the use of Pantayong Pananaw (From-Us-For- Us Perspective) as an approach. Through Pantayong Pananaw, Teolohiyang Pilipino (Filipino Theology) can enrich itself as a Filipinization movement in various aspects. Some of these aspects are the application of emic concepts, use of Filipino language, translation, and exposition of Filipino theologians’ thought. The development of these aspects is a great leap forward toward the construction of a Teolohiyang Pilipino that is truly relevant to Filipino society
