2021 National Assessment of Project Integrated General Subjects in the Third Grade of Secondary Education in Flanders (Vocational Track)
In 2021 a national assessment was carried out, which was commissioned by the Flemish government, to assess the extent to which students achieve the attainment targets for project-integrated general subjects at the end of the third grade of vocational secondary education. This assessment is a reiteration of the national assessment administered in 2013. Data were collected through four written tests covering four topics: (1) home and garden, (2) environment and energy, (3) transportation, and (4) media. A representative sample of 2870 students from 174 Flemish secondary schools participated. Some of these students also participated in the national assessment on critical thinking, media wisdom, and problem-solving. This group of students took only two (and not four) of the tests on project-integrated general subjects. In addition, they took the digital test on critical thinking and media wisdom. Tests were supplemented with background questionnaires for students, parents and teachers. The questionnaires collected information on general background characteristics of the students and their families, the students' school careers and classroom practices. The response rates for the questionnaires were 81% for the students, 56% for the parents and 77% for the teachers.
2011 National Assessment of Information Acquisition and Processing in the First Grade of Secondary Education in Flanders (A-stream)
In 2011 a national assessment was carried out, which was commissioned by the Flemish government, to assess to which extent students have sufficient skills to acquire and process information at the end of the first grade of secondary education (A-stream). This assessment is a reiteration of the previous assessment on information acquisition and processing in 2004. Data were collected through four tests: a test on consulting reference works, a test on working with tables and graphs, a test on structuring verbal information and a test on working with plans, drawings and maps. A representative sample of 2927 students from 97 Flemish secondary schools participated. Tests were supplemented with background questionnaires for students, parents and the pedagogical coordinator of the first grade. The student questionnaire included, among other things, questions on their interaction with teachers and their method of study. The parent questionnaire collected, among other things, information on their child and the family situation. The pedagogical coordinator was asked about the learning climate at school and what happens at school around learning to learn. The response rates to these questionnaires were 99% for the students, 98% for the parents and 97% for the pedagogical coordinator.

Researchers investigating the neural mechanisms underlying speech perception often employ electroencephalography (EEG)
to record brain activity while participants listen to spoken language. The high temporal resolution of EEG enables the study of
neural responses to fast and dynamic speech signals. Previous studies have successfully extracted speech characteristics
from EEG data and, conversely, predicted EEG activity from speech features.
Machine learning techniques are generally employed to construct encoding and decoding models, which necessitate a
substantial amount of data.
We present SparrKULee: A Speech-evoked Auditory Repository of EEG, measured at KU Leuven,
comprising 64-channel EEG recordings from 85 young individuals with normal hearing, each of whom listened to 90-150
minutes of natural speech. This dataset is more extensive than any currently available dataset in terms of both the number of
participants and the amount of data per participant. It is suitable for training larger machine learning models. We evaluate the
dataset using linear and state-of-the-art non-linear models in a speech encoding/decoding and match/mismatch paradigm,
providing benchmark scores for future research.
Our github repository contains the necessary code to perform preprocessing steps needed to obtain the files in the derivatives folder, as well as extra code to show the technical validation of our dataset and tools to download the dataset more easily.

2016 National Assessment of Citizenship in the Third Grade of Secondary Education in Flanders (General - Vocational - Art - Technical Track)
In 2016 a national assessment was carried out, which was commissioned by the Flemish government, to assess the extent to which students have achieved the cross-curricular attainment targets related to citizenship at the end of the third grade of general, vocational, art and technical secondary education. Data were collected through three tests: (1) socioeconomic and sustainable action, (2) relationships and culture and (3) democratic action. A representative sample of 1508 students from general education, 1420 students from technical and arts education and 1185 students from vocational education, across 166 Flemish secondary schools participated. Tests were supplemented with student, parent and school questionnaires. The student and parent questionnaire collected, among other things, information on general background and family characteristics and attitudes toward citizenship-related topics. The school questionnaire collected information on school policies and the provision of citizenship in the classroom. The response rates to these questionnaires were 99% for the student questionnaire, 83% for the parent questionnaire and 90% for the school questionnaire.

This dataset is obtained during an ICON project (2017-2018) in collaboration with KU Leuven (ESAT-STADIUS), UZ Leuven, UCB, Byteflies and Pilipili. The goal of this project was to design a system using Behind the ear (bhE) EEG electrodes for monitoring the patient in a home environment. This way, a nice balance can be found between sufficient accuracy of seizure detection algorithms (because EEG is used) and wearability (bhe EEG is relatively subtle, similar to a hear-aid device). The dataset acquired in the hospital during presurgical evaluation. During such presurgical evaluation, neurologists try to see if a specific part of the brain is causing the seizures, and if so, if that part of the brain can be removed during surgery. During the presurgical evaluation, patients are monitored using the vEEG for multiple days (typically a week). Patients are however restricted to move within their room because of the wiring and video analysis. In this dataset, following data is available per patient:
• Full 10-20 scalp EEG data of the patient during the presurgical evaluation.
• Behind-the-ear data (2 sensors positioned behind each ear)
• Single-lead ECG data (typically lead II)
Seizures are annotated by the clinicians based on the gold standard vEEG system. These seizure annotations are also available in the dataset. In total 82 patients were recorded between 23/01/2017 and 26/10/2018. From those patients, 54 were recorded with the bhe channels. Forty-two of those patients had seizures during their presurgical evaluation, while for twelve patients no seizure has been recorded.
The number of seizures per patient ranged from 1 to 22, with a median of 3 seizures per patient. The duration of the seizures, the time difference of seizure EEG onset and end, varied between 11 and 695 seconds with a median of 50 seconds. 89% of the seizures were Focal Impaired Awareness seizures. 91% of the seizures originated from the (fronto-) temporal lobe.
In the folder ’Data’ the raw data in the form of .edf, are provided with annotations for all the patients. The annotations are provided in .tsv (tab separated values) files. For every seizure the first column represents the starting point (in seconds) of the seizure, the second one the end point of the seizure, the third one the type of the seizure, while in the last column extra information are provided. The extra information includes the origin of the seizure, the hemisphere and if the seizure can be noted from the behind the ear channels (bhe:1 in that case). In the header section of every file information concerning the dataset and the annotations used are included. For every subject and for every session (even if no seizure is present) two different sets of annotations are provided. The ”a1”set of annotations is the annotations as provided by the doctors. The ”a2” set of annotations are the annotations used in [2] for training of the algorithm. The annotations provided from the doctors were not always perfectly aligned with the typical rhythmic ictal pattern, hence in ”a2” a refinement of the start of each annotation was performed visually by an engineer. Furthermore, in the annotations of the doctor the
end point of some seizures was missing (”none”) in the ”a2” subset of annotations each seizure was considered with a stable length of 10 seconds
