Replication Data for: The Portrait of Elisabeth Braderic - Scientific reports and imaging
Between March and June 2024 several technical analyses were executed on the Portrait of Elisabeth Braderic (by Pieter Cristus, c. 1450). IPARC performed a macrophotograpy, an infrared reflectography and MA-XRF scans. Prof. Dr. P. Vandenabeele executed direct Raman spectroscopy on 7 selected points. The results of these investigations are described in an article submitted to Studies in Conservation
Replication code and data for: Platform urbanism and ‘splintering amenitization’: An analysis of Canadian cities
This repository contains the R code and aggregated data needed to replicate the analysis in our paper "Platform urbanism and ‘splintering amenitization’: An analysis of Canadian cities".
To replicate this analysis, please use the enclosed `renv.lock` file to install the requisite versions of necessary packages.
All necessary datasets are located within the `data/` folder. This includes publicly available statistical (demographic) data obtained from Statistics Canada and built environment data obtained from OpenStreetMap. These datasets were obtained for selected neighborhoods in three Canadian cities, namely, Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver. For further details on the datasets, please refer to the original publication.
All code is contained in the`analysis/` folder in computational notebooks. These notebooks are organized sequentially, with initial files containing code to access and process datasets. Subsequent files contain code necessary to run the regression analyses, process results, and create the figures used in the publication. For further details on each notebook, please refer to the enclosed 'README' file

Replication Data for: Evens, M., Arteconi, A. (sup.) (2024). Heat pump control and behavioural characterisation under energy flexibility services.
Data for the PhD dissertation: “Heat pump control and behavioural characterisation under energy flexibility services.” The dataset holds simulation models and experimental result files, and is meant for replication purposes. An extensive description of the exact content of each file in the dataset can be found in the Readme file. Regarding the simulation models (.mo files), these include detailed, dynamic simulation models of residential buildings heated by a heat pump system. The internal heat pump control logics already implemented by the heat pump manufacturer are also modelled. The main aim of these simulation models is to investigate the role of the internal heat pump control on the operational heat pump behaviour, both under normal and energy flexible behaviour. The PhD project also used a hardware-in-the-loop set-up to collect experimental data, for which the Python script to control the lab infrastructure is also given. Concerning the experiments, the collected data holds the raw experimental data (both setpoints and measurements) with a time resolution of fifteen seconds
Replication Data for: Thermodynamics of interactions between cellulose nanocrystals and monovalent counterions
This dataset contains raw data from isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC), conductometric titration, infrared spectroscopy, elemental analysis and zeta potential measurements of cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs). With the use of ITC, interactions of Na-form sulfated and Na-form carboxylated CNCs with different alkali and quaternary ammonium ions were investigated. Other mentioned techniques were used for the characterization of surface charge of CNCs
Replication Data for: Citizen scientists: unveiling motivations and characteristics influencing initial and sustained participation in an agronomic project
The dataset was gathered in the context of the “Soja in 1000 Tuinen” (Soy in 1000 Gardens) project which ran between May and October 2021.
For this, 1200 citizens were selected out of a pool of applicants to plant soybean in their gardens. These citizens had two main tasks.
Firstly, they reported on soybean growth and yield of ten soybean plants during five consecutive project steps. Secondly, halfway through the summer,
participants returned five out of ten plants back to the lab, where professional scientists checked them for root nodules. The project led to a big phenotypical dataset for each garden that could directly be related to the occurrence of nodules, as well as a collection of bacteria isolated from these nodules. Additionally, soil collected from each garden was analysed to determine its nutrient, chemical and microbial composition.
Combined with the phenotypical data, this provides a better fundamental insight into the environment needed for optimal soybean growth and nodulation.
With regards to societal impact, the project had two main goals:
(1) Increasing public awareness about the benefits of legumes and microbes for sustainable garden management and agriculture, and
(2) Characterising citizen scientists and the drivers behind their initial and sustained engagement, such that results from this study could inform recruitment strategies,
enhance project design, and foster long-term engagement in future citizen science initiatives.
For the latter, participants filled in a large survey at the beginning of the project.
In this survey, several constructs regarding motivation and other personal characteristics that could influence participation in the case study were questioned.
Further, the survey was also filled in by a panel of non-participants in the project, to be able to compare whether differences between citizen scientists and ‘the general public’ were present. Finally, the data set also contains measures of participation level for each participant, which were recorded during the project.

Thermal and latitudinal patterns in pace-of-life traits are partly mediated by the gut microbiome
The integration of life-history, physiological and behavioural traits into the pace-of-life generates a powerful framework to understand trait variation in nature both along environmental gradients and in response to environmental stressors. While the gut microbiome has been hypothesized as a candidate mechanism to underlie differentiation in the pace-of-life, this has been rarely studied. We investigated the role of the gut microbiome in contributing to the differentiation in pace-of-life and in thermal adaptation between populations of Ischnura elegans damselfly larvae inhabiting warmer low latitudes and colder high latitudes. We carried out a common-garden experiment, whereby we manipulated the exposure of the damselfly larvae to two key global warming factors: 4 °C warming and a 30 °C heat wave. Comparing the bacterial composition of the food source and the bacterioplankton indicated that damselfly larvae differentially take up bacteria from the surrounding environment and have a resident and functionally relevant microbiome. The gut microbiome differed between larvae of both latitudes, and this was associated with the host's latitudinal differentiation in activity, a key pace-of-life trait. Under heat wave exposure, the gut microbial community composition of high-latitude larvae converged towards that of the low-latitude larvae, with an increase in bacteria that likely are important in providing energy to cope with the heat wave. This suggests an adaptive latitude-specific shift in the gut microbiota matching the better ability of low-latitude hosts to deal with heat extremes. In general,
our study provides evidence for the gut microbiome contributing to latitudinal differentiation in both the pace-of-life and in heat adaptation in natural populations
Replication Data for: Performance of ferrite nanoparticles in inductive heating swing adsorption (IHSA): how tailoring material properties can circumvent the design limitations of a system
The dataset contains the data supporting the development of performant ferrite nanoparticles for inductive heating swing adsorption. It provides theory-based strategies for optimization of the system and an experimental example of how these principles can be inplemented using ferrite nanoparticles. 2018 National Assessment of Dutch (Reading, Listening and Writing) in Primary Education in Flanders
In 2018 a national assessment was carried out, which was commissioned by the Flemish government, to assess whether pupils have sufficient skills to read, listen and write in Dutch at the end of primary education. Attainment targets for reading were already assessed for the fourth time, attainment targets for listening for the third time and attainment targets for writing for the first time. Previous assessments took place in 2013, 2007 and 2002. Data were collected through a written listening and reading test. In addition, a practical test was administered to assess certain writing skills. A representative sample of 3119 pupils from 119 Flemish primary schools participated. Tests were supplemented with questionnaires for pupils, parents and teachers. These questionnaires collected, among other things, information on background characteristics of the pupils, school and teachers, classroom practices and the teachers' didactic approaches. The response rates to these questionnaires were 99% for pupils and 88% for parents. Teachers were able to complete part of the questionnaire online, for which the response rate was 97%. For the paper part, the response rate was 96%.In 2018 vond een peiling plaats in opdracht van de Vlaamse overheid om na te gaan in welke mate leerlingen op het einde van het basisonderwijs de eindtermen lezen, luisteren en schrijven uit het leergebied Nederlands behalen. In 2013, 2007 en 2002 vonden eerdere peilingen Nederlands plaats. Eindtermen voor lezen werden reeds voor de vierde keer gepeild, eindtermen voor luisteren voor de derde keer en eindtermen voor schrijven voor het eerst. De gegevens werden verzameld aan de hand van een schriftelijke luister- en leestoets. Om de schrijfvaardigheden te toetsen, werd ook een praktische proef afgenomen. Een representatieve steekproef van 3119 leerlingen uit 119 Vlaamse basisscholen nam deel. Daarnaast werden ook vragenlijsten afgenomen bij leerlingen, ouders en leerkrachten. Deze vragenlijsten verzamelden onder andere informatie over de achtergrondkenmerken van de leerlingen en de school, de klaspraktijken en de didactische aanpak van de leerkrachten. De responsgraad op deze vragenlijsten bedroeg 99% voor de leerlingen en 88% voor de ouders. De leerkrachten konden een deel van de vragenlijst online invullen, waarvoor de responsgraad 97% was. Voor het papieren gedeelte was dit 96%
